HEARNE - Services for Abram Miles, Jr., 79, will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2007, at New Bethel Baptist Church in Silsbee. A wake will be held from 6-9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at All Families Mortuary Heavenly Estate Chapel in Hearne.

Mr. Miles died Aug. 29, 2007, in a Beaumont hospital.

He was born July 17, 1928.

He lived in Galveston most of his life, before moving on to pursue an education.

Mr. Miles graduated from Central High School in Galveston and attended Prairie View A&M University where he received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He also attended Vander Cook College of Music where he received another master’s degree.

Mr. Miles was a fraternity member of Omega Psi Phi.

He returned to Silsbee where he was a teacher and band director for over 37 years in the Silsbee ISD.

Mr. Miles was also a member of the NAACP and the Community Male Chorus.

He was a deacon at New Bethel Baptist Church and he loved to write poetry and compose music.

Mr. Miles was preceded in death by two sons, Lawrence and Michael Miles; two brothers, Jimmie and Hosea; and a sister, Jessie.

Survivors are a grandson Lawrence Miles, II; a nephew, Larry Miles and wife Lovie; and a host of relatives, loved ones and friends.
