Lifelong Rockdale resident, Alfred Garza, 70, died Thursday, Aug. 16, 2007 in Houston. Funeral services were held Monday, Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. at. St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockdale with Rev. Gregory Hanks of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Deacon Don Sims of St. Monica’s Catholic Church in Cameron officiating. Burial followed in the Garza Cemetery.
Mr. Garza, a truck driver, was born Oct. 7, 1936 in Rockdale to Anastacio and Guadalupe (Reyes) Garza.
He married Earlene Morton.
He was a U.S. Navy veteran serving from 1955 to 1959. He was also a member of St. Joseph’ Catholic Church in Rockdale.
Mr. Garza was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert Garza and Manuel Garza.
Survivors include his wife Earlene Morton of Rockdale; four sons, John Garza of Rockdale, Gilbert Garza of Austin, Greg Garza of Maryville, TN and Leonard Garza of San Antonio; daughter, Rita Garza of White Plains, NY; his children’s mother, Matilde Garza of Rockdale; six brothers, Juan Garza of San Antonio, Cruz Garza, Arthur Garza and Ruben Garza, all of Rockdale, Jimmy Garza of Mt. Pleasant and Joe Garza of Austin; five sisters, Ceclia Garza of San Antonio, Isabel Ortiz of Houston, Mary Helen Ortega of Rockdale, Josephine Garza of Austin and Angie Grafe of Evergreen, CO; five grandchildren.
Pallbearers include Kirk Garza, Jacob Garza, Steven Garza, Adam Garza, Jason Syptak and Jarrel Garza.
