Memorial services for Theo Frank Aschenbeck, retired Major USMC, will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Palms Funeral Home in Angleton.
He was born Nov. 24, 1927 in Cameron.
He died Aug. 3 at Houston Hospice, after a long battle with diabetes and its complications.
Major Aschenbeck, USMC, also known as "Jack," served in three wars. He served in World War II as a merchant seaman and did a minority cruise in the Navy. He served in the Korean War as a Marine platoon leader, earning two Purple Hearts. His final tour of duty was in Vietnam as a Naval Aviator.
After he retired from the military he earned his college degree and then retired from Dow Chemical.
His hobbies were computers, writing commentaries for local newspapers and writing genealogy on families from history.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Theo Henry Aschenbeck and Ida Mae Spence Aschenbeck and his sister Margie Humble.
Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Bobbye Cotton Aschenbeck of West Columbia; his brother Bert Aschenbeck, wife Helen, of Durant, OK; daughter Sherrie Deen, husband James Deen of Bay City and daughter Suzie Bigelow of Bellaire; three grandchildren, Bodie Rose, wife Lori Rose of Youngsville, PA, Mindy Rose, and Rachel Rose of Bay City; and six great grandchildren.
