Hi!

I am a direct descendant of William Wesley Wolfe and second wife, Lugania Elizabeth Buchanan. My great-grandmother was their youngest daughter Josie Wolfe, who married Andrew Price Welch. They lived in Gholson, McLennan County, Texas and are buried in that cemetery.

William and Lugania are buried in the Concord Cemetery, not far from Waco, McLennan County, Texas.

I do have some of the descendants of William and Lugania.

William and Margaret's son John Nathaniel Wolfe lived in Hubbard, Hill County, Texas and is buried in the cemetery that is right on Highway 31 before you get to Hubbard, from Waco. John was a very popular preacher and was married to Ada Cornelia Clarkson. Phelarah married George H. Armstrong. Frances Jane Wolfe married Charles A. Armstrong. I do have more if you would like it.

My grandmother was the daughter of Josie and Andrew Welch, Pearl Price Welch. She married Vernon Earl McClain. My dad, was Leslie Earl McClain and married Pauline Paul. I am Dianne McClain and married Danny Epps. We live in Palmer, Ellis County, Texas. If you would like to contact me please reply to this email and I will reply.
Frank and Jewell's occupations were listed as officer and matron at a "boys training school".

If you have access to this record all of the persons on this page, other than children, were employed at this school. At the top of the page is "State Juvenille Training School" located on State Hwy 93. 660 boys were listed as "Pupil" at this "School" from all over the country, 446 were from Texas.

John Moody Farquhar born 25 Oct 1926 in Jefferson County married Barbara Joyce Freeman and John Moody Jr was born in Harris Co 01 Jan 1951. John Moody Jr lived in Round Rock Texas in 1993.

http://www.tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/GG/jjg2.h...

GATESVILLE STATE SCHOOL FOR BOYS. Gatesville State School for Boys, three miles northeast of Gatesville in Coryell County, was the first juvenile training and rehabilitation institution in the southern United States. It was established by the Texas legislature in 1887 and opened in January 1889 as the House of Correction and Reformatory, a division of the Texas penal system (see PRISON SYSTEM). Ben E. McCulloch served as the first superintendent of the facility, which housed sixty-eight boys who had formerly been incarcerated with adult felons. The legislature changed the school's name to State Institution for the Training of Juveniles in 1909 and established a five-member board of trustees to administer the institution. A 1913 law changed the school's name to State Juvenile Training School, and in 1919 a newly established state Board of Control assumed management of the school. The legislature renamed the facility Gatesville State School for Boys in 1939. By 1940 the school housed 767 males who were under the age of seventeen at the time a court committed them to the institution. The residents attended academic and vocational classes and engaged in a variety of farming activities on a 900-acre tract of state land and 2,700 acres of leased land. A parole system that rewarded good behavior permitted the release of certain inmates to private sponsors.

The State Youth Development Council began administration of Gatesville State School for Boys in 1949, and the facility enrolled 406 boys in 1950. In 1957 the new Texas Youth Council (later the Texas Youth Commission) replaced the Youth Development Council. By 1970, 1,830 young male offenders housed on five separate units that included the Hilltop, Riverside, Valley, Hackberry, and Terrace schools resided at the institution. The Texas Youth Council operated a separate facility, the Mountain View School for Boys, also near Gatesville, as a maximum security unit for juvenile offenders.

A class-action lawsuit, filed against the Texas Youth Council on behalf of juvenile offenders in 1971, marked the beginning of sweeping changes in the Texas juvenile justice system. The school enrolled approximately 1,500 boys and employed over 250 staff members in 1974, when federal judge William Wayne Justice issued a ruling in Morales v. Turman. The judge ruled that a number of practices at Texas Youth Council facilities constituted cruel and unusual punishment that violated the Eighth Amendment to the United States Constitution. Staff members routinely dispensed arbitrary and unnecessary punishments that included beating, solitary confinement, the use of chemical crowd-control devices, and the utilization of drugs instead of psychotherapy as a means for controlling behavior. Justice also concluded that the school's staff failed to protect the inmates from violence and personal injury and that most employees lacked proper qualifications and training for supervising troubled youths.

Judge Justice ordered the state to close the Gatesville and Mountain View schools and to develop community alternatives to large juvenile penal institutions. During 1979 the Gatesville State School for Boys closed, and the Texas Youth Council placed juvenile offenders in smaller schools at Brownwood, Crockett, Gainesville, Giddings, and Pyote, as well as at a number of foster and group homes, halfway houses, and residential treatment centers. The Riverside, Valley, and Terrace schools became the Gatesville Unit for female inmates of the Texas Department of Corrections in 1980. The Hilltop and Hackberry schools composed the Hilltop Unit for male felons of the Texas Department of Corrections beginning in 1981.

BIBLIOGRAPHY: Steve J.
I'm not related. Charlie Sligh and Sligh Lumber company was in Waco in recent years. Don't know if he's related to your John Sligh.

Are you familiar with the Texas death certificates listed at familysearch.com. A good link is
http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start

search for last name Sligh with death in McLennan County. Death certificates for several of John Sligh and Elizabeth Taylor's children are listed. Elizabeth's DC is there and shows her parents as Mose Ward Taylor b MS, and Elizabeth Bankhead b MS. Her spouse was John S Sligh. Elizabeth was born Sep 30, 1849 in Mt Pleasant, TX and died Oct 18, 1939 in Waco at age 90 years. Burial place is Oakwood Cemetery.

On the 1880, J S Sligh says his parents are from South Carolina. 1900 he says his parents are born GA.

Found this in the 1850 and 1860; don't know if it's the right one.

1850 Dist 21 Macon Alabama
Sligh Emanuel age 43 b South Carolina
Francis age 22 b GA
Soloman age 8 b GA ... is this John S
Simion age 5 b AL
Francis age 3 b AL
Mary under 1 year

This may be him with mother and step-father
1860 Atlanta City, Fulton County GA
Seago, E M male age 37 SC
Seago, Francis age 34 b GA
Sligh, John S age 17 b AL
Sligh, Sinnon age 15 male b AL
Sligh, Matilda age 12 b AL
Sligh, James M age 11 b AL
Seago, B W age 1 male b GA

Hope some of this will help,
Sandra

She has been an invaluable help to me. Brandon Alexander is the father of Morgan Lafayette, we know because of a picture from Ben's daughter, Lou.
Searching for descendants of Adolph Charlie Langlotz who was born Jan 23, 1879 in Texas - probably Fayette Co. He married Willie Dean, about 1912, possibly in McLennan Co TX. She was the daughter of Preston Dean and Julia Lawrence. Willie died June 22, 1924, Waco - buried Oakwood Cemetery. Adolph died May 17, 1937, Waco - buried Oakwood Cemetery. They are shown in the 1920 and 1930 census in Waco, and his WWI draft card says Waco as well. Children according to census records:
1. Lillian, born ca 1916 - probably Waco
2. Florence, born ca 1918 - probably Waco
3. Adolph, born 7 May 1919 - probably Waco (died Sept 1983 McLennan Co TX.)

Again, I am looking for descendants only - or any connected with this Dean family.
