I have not found more information on August Felix Jr. except that he is buried in Forest Park Cemetery in Houston. I did find more family information on his mother's family line (Hoelscher)on Rootsweb, all the way back to Germany in 1823.

I am looking for information regarding the details of my grandfather's death on May 31, 1975. The only story I have heard is that he was working on a boat and somehow fell overboard and drowned.

I don't know if anything was published in any newspaper regarding this accident, but I would love to have more details if anyone would be willing to help me out.

Best wishes!

Designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

Too funny! Your tree has a document detailing the disposition of land from Mary Ann's father. She inherited 200+ acres so that may have been the reason John's request for Civil War Pension was rejected? Some of those pension applications have the criteria for approval. Basically, the requestor had to be indigent (po')!

actually I don't think I did. When I first started this, I focused more on my direct line as to who is..now I am trying to expand that to "who were they". I know Mary Ann James Daniels parents left them property to take care of her mother Mary (ann Scott?). When she died they sold the farm and moved supposely to Whaton? I think that is why William Thomas Daniel was still there in 1900. I have gotten all the info on this family I have from the reseach who did the historical reseach to get New Hope church in Van Zandt a historical building status. It didnt include alot of in depth geneology reseach - she is a distant cousin of mine thru the James family If Mary Ann had property from her father, I would assume they sold that also when they left. JW Daniel is listed as a early minster on Van Zandt as is one of the James brothers. again I assume it was around New Hope Church and school. and yes this set of ancestors are a PITA to reseach.. lucky A few have recorded histories of some sort. But they just won't stay in one place lol. I have Van Zandt, Callahan? Wharlon, Matagorda, and Uvada. there wher in all those places. THen I have Winfield moving from Texas and Ok.. and his ww1 Draft card says he was in Kansas as a rig builder?
But Yes Jonathan and Artie were married in 1866.. Andy and Alice were married in 1877. So I suppose they were not related when Jonathan dand Artie got married.. but became step Bro and sister afterwards. Hmm "am I my own Grandpaw?"

You've done an outstanding job researching! This family is difficult! Your response about "selling the family farm" answered a question I was preparing to ask! Mary inherited "significant acreage" from her father I wondered why the family did not settle in Van Zandt? Digression: John's brother Jonathan wed Artie/Arty Evans 31 May 1866 in Van Zandt. Believe their father Andrew's last marriage was to Artie's widowed mom: Alice? Did you research probate records for Andrew Daniels?

Thanks.. I of course found the entry that didn't have a copy attached. We had no idea how he died just "on a train". Now I can say it is "by a train" and maybe with the help of my historical reseach friends here find a report on it. and yes I found him with a family in Wharton in 1900. he is listed as "son" but I have yet to find a connection between that family and ours. he was most likely Farm Labor which is what his work was listed as. Supposely JW and family where there in Wharton. for a bit after they sold thier family farm. I have to also check Uvada co, tha tis where Mary Ann put her penion spp in at. and see if I can't run down some of the witness on hers. there a J W Daniel who signed it. I am assumeing at this point it is the son. I am also hopeing I can find other family desendants of some of these people. I would really love a picture of J W Senor to go with the picture of his wife. THanks again for you help

actually I didn't see a Death cert (xerox copy) of Winfield's.. I know J.W. is there. Supposely most of the Family died of TB. But I can't find out exactly when nor death certs for them. Callie died of it..I also know that heart trouble seems to run in the family. And I havent found a death cert/gave for Mary Ann Daniel. Noone I have talked to knowns what happened to the youngest son. Roscoe I think it was. Supposely one of them ran away or died of TB.. depending on who you talk to. oh the tragedy of J.W. is even worst if you read his penion app. he was Paralized also - so the trip back then must have been really really hard. and I have no idea where W.T. and J.W. are buried either. I have looked at every El Paso Daniel Buriel I can find. and my best guess right now is that they might have been buried in the Concordia Cemetry in the poor section. I am just trying to find out as much as I can about how what where and how. and thanks for the help :)

W. T. Daniels death certificate online https://familysearch.org/ Puzzled by the absence of WWI Draft Registrations for Roscoe, Reagan, and John? Perhaps they either died prior to 1917/1918 or avoided registration? Winfield James (names used alternately) found 1910 and 1920 Oklahoma then 1930 TX-Lamb. So many tragedies! A father travels 700 miles to bury his son and dies before returning home!

THanks didn't know when Callie died. I know they were in Ok for awhile, then went to Phonis Az ( my dad was born there) then to Calif. I wasn't posting alot of info because I was focusing on Matagorda county and I figured it was easier for the Matagorda look up people to focus on certain infomation. I have a copy of a picture and wanted to expand on the people in it for the family. They were only ID'd as Joe Scates, Callie Daniel and several Young children and one unknown child. So I am trying to see if the Family Oral history is correct or not. since there no 1990 census..

Why a seperate posting! For the sake of consistency, add the children here. I've already visited your tree and have the names. Regarding Paul: believe he was age 3/12 in 1870? He's not on 1880 so reasonably certain he died early? Mary Ann applied for widow's pension 11 Apr 1904 in Uvalde County. John's correct date of death listed on that document. Callie Daniels Scates (21 Nov 1882 - 21 Feb 1911) buried in Sunnyvale, Dallas County. Appears the family was in Matagorda and/or Uvalde County ca. 1900 then relocated to Okmulgee, OK for 1910. Callie sheltered one of Minnie's daughters in 1910 Okmulgee.

Thank you. I have very little info on John Westley for 1880 - 1900. Oral family history. But I am trying to run down things like where were they.. when did they die, where are they Buried. I have a copy of a picture with Mary Ann Daniel (wife), Joe Scates, and several Young children.. but no idea how they were related. John and Mary ann (James) where my Great Grandparents. They were orginally from Van Zandt Co. A family reseach and historian did reseach on them for Van Zandt and the church that Mary Ann's parents William and Mary james donated land for a Church and school there (New Hope Church) is now a historical Building. The last Census I have for John and Mary is 1880 Callahan, then the Confedate Penision app in 1899. Minnie supposly died of TB after having 4 children, but no note on who she married. I will do another post with names of John and Mary and thier children. and I apprecate the Help you all did :)

Looking for infomation on John Westley Daniel/Daniels. and his wife Mary Ann. I believe he was a lay precher at the Trespalacios Church. and put in a Confederate penison app in June of 1899 and it was disaproved in Oct 1899 that was rejected. I find him and his children listed in the 1894 School census. I believe he was there from 1888-1899. He appears to have been a preacher for the chruch from 1888-1891.

http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txmatago/school_census_189...
1894 MATAGORDA COUNTY, TEXAS SCHOOL CENSUS

INTRODUCTION
DR.
I am researching the Fisher and Morehead families. I have been looking for some tombstones in Cedarvale Cem. but have been unable to find some listed such as Amanda Baxter Fisher. Seems that most I find missing are from the 1920-1930 time period. Does anyone know who might have information on missing tombstones or who to contact about who purchased a plot?

Her family was from Goliad county, and Ruth would have been born around 1917. Anything would be helpful. Thanks!

Adolphus Law was also my great grandfather. I am the granddaughter of Katherine Belle Law. You probably have the same information I found on Ancestry. The 1910 Fed Census shows Adolphus & family in Victoria TX. The 1914 obit for Mary Isabella Averyt (Margaret E. Averyt Law's mother) list's "Mrs. A. H. Law of this city" (Victoria). If this is true, they moved to Palacios, TX after that. Both died there according to the TX Death records 1903-40. My mother's cousin still lives in the area and she believes they were buried near their home. They are not in the cemetery. I have a copy of his Soldier's Pension Application which I got from the Texas State Lib and Archives Commission. It includes hand-written letters & Application for Mortuary Warrant showing death on 1-12-1927. I have been looking for more documents for Adolphus and other Law ancestors as well. I am happy to share information. Linda Gulledge
