There was an Indian raid on a cattle drive near Horsehead Crossing on the Pecos River in 1867. A band of about 50 Kiowas and Comanches attacked, driving off a large herd of cattle headed for the army at Ft. Sumner, NM. Also lost were wagons, horses, draft aminals and personal belongings. Kate was wounded in the hip but survived. The Hoys, including their four children and several drovers, were pinned down for three days behind the dobe walls of an abandoned stage station before the arrival of a group of gold hunters frightened the marauders off. There is an account written by Selinda Catherine (Kate) Hoy years later describing the episode. There is also an extensive case file in the National Archives, U.S. Court of Claims, Indian Depredations Case Records #2619-2633, Box no. 212 File 2626 which contains numerous depositions from Joel D. Hoy, his daughter Mariah Threet Hoy Moore and various other people associated with the incident. For more detail please contact me by email. I have sent you a short email message.

Hi list, i'am looking for the burial place for Martin V. B. Lane b.Abt 1836-1840 Williamson Co., Tenn. He came from Morgan Co., Alabama, the son of Reuben & Sarah (Long) Lane. Last known whereabouts was 1880 & 1900 census in Lampasas Co., Texas, he was living in his son John Reuben Lane's household for 1900. John Reuben Lane's death certificate gave some information. Before that, all we had to go on, was, he "Went to Texas"! There was another "Lane" family, not related, living in the Lampasas County area also. Any help would be very appreciated!

My information is that John Lawrence Hasha, b. 22 Nov 1872 in Louisiana, married Mary Delanie Peebles, b. 1870 in Mississippi. They had two sons, Marcelous Elmer in 1902, and Lester Lee in 1908. In 1910 and 1920 her Fuller children were living with them. My interest is the Hasha family so I don't have any further information on the Fuller family, sorry. However I am in touch with a cousin, John Hasha, who descends from Marcelous Elmer, and he may have more on the Peebles family.

Yes there are thousands but I only need help with about 50. I will give you the surnames and names if you are interested. A few of the surnames on the quilt are- Nesbit, Ray, Burris, Lee, Lester, Cox, Williams, Faubion and about 25 others. If you would like a complete list I will post one. I got this link from someone else and was not sure about posting everything at once. The quilt is from my family. Originating as Ray. The quilt appears to be made by people living near to the area of our original homestead off of Hwy. 281 near Evant. Just let me know if you would like more information.

I don't know how to post an original message so here is who I am looking for. My husbands grandmother was Lucinda Smith, born 1874 in Texas. She died in 1936 in Houston, Tx. Her death cert. said her father was Jim (James) Smith. She had a brother John James Smith, born 1869; also a sister Missouri Ann, born 1871. I found a James Smith, wife Josephine, and son John (age 1) on the 1870 Trinity county site. James & Josephine were both born in Mississippi but may have lived somewhere else before reaching Texas. Son John married at least 2 times (one was a Thornton) and was murdered in Corrigan, Polk Co. Tx. Missouri Ann married a M.F. Rogers in Polk County, Tx. Her death cert. was in Beaumont, Tx and she died in 1959 from drowning in canal. Death cert. stated she was a widow. Family said she had one son who was killed in WWI. Lucinda married Angus Jefferson Lewis in, I believe 1902. They later divorced and A.J. married a Mollie Smith. A.J. & Mollie lived in Jasper County, Tx. where A.J. Lewis buried. I don't know where Mollie died and was buried. Lucinda is buried in Polk county. Josephine married a Mr. Tullos in 1875 then a Mr. Green She is buried in the Stryker Cemetery in Polk County. I have posted several messages in the past but I think I have all the facts now. Hope somecan help.

What I can find concerning A.W. Elledge says that he was a Baptist Minister. Reverend A.W. Elledge was born 23 Dec 1809 and died 4 July 1884. His wife, Mary M., was born 12 Mar 1810 and died Apr 1883. There is no marker for her. I will check on the marker for him.

A man named Jacob Browning, a Baptist Minister, helped build a one-room log cabin for both chruch and school purposes. He served as pastor of the church for several years. In 1872 a circuit riding Southern Baptist, A.W. Elledge organized the membership into the Clear Creek Baptist Church.

Situated close to the Coryell and Bell County lines is the first church organized in the Copperas Cove-East Lampasas County area. In 1872 six charter families met in a one-room building believed to be a log cabin schoolhouse, to organize the Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church. The schoolhouse with its split rail seats was located 200 yards west of the church site.

The Reverend Ambrose W. Ellege (1809-1884), a frontier preacher active in establishing many Baptist churches, served as the first pastor. The last fedw years of his life he spent in Lampasas County as a circuit riding pastor. He and his wife, Mary, are buried in the Clear Creek Baptisy Church Cemetery.

I will see what I can find on this family. The church may have more on them.

I have a friend that his grandfather was the Sheriff of Lampasas Co. in the late 1800's. I thought I would ask if anyone a way I could look him up when I'm in Lampasas next time.
Thanks
Beverly Sullivan

My Grandfather, Albert Sidney JOHNSON'S sister Myra Belle JOHNSON married Sam KUYDENDALL. They were in Burnet Co. in 1900. His parents were also there. Sam, Hattie and son John.
Sam and Myra had one daughter. The moved to Yoakum, Lavaca Co. TX. and are there in 1910 and 1920. I do not have Sam's date of death, but Myra died in 1955 and their daughter died in 1999. She had no children. They are are buried in San Antonio.
