I am tracking some families that came to California in 1853 and (eventually) ended up in Tulare Co. Some of the surnames I have found in California biographies that reference the wagon train were Brown, Glass and Balaam among others. It sounds like a lot of families left Lamar Co. in that train - 50 wagons? They left in April, 1853 and arrived in Los Angeles in November I think.
Is anyone familiar with that group? Are there any published diaries or journals you are aware of?
I'm trying to track my wife's Great Grandmother (Mary Ann Brown) who may have been a toddler in that wagon train. There are some family legends about depredations by indians and that she was orphaned. I have my eye on a couple of Lamar Co. Brown families but so far haven't been able to nail her down.
