My grandfather, A.C. Miller, was a chuck wagon cook for both the 6666 Ranch and the Pitchfork Ranch. I'm not sure of the time period. I did find a book on the Pitchfork Ranch that had a lot of his kinfolk listed on the payroll roster but not him. Does anyone know where I can get the information, particularly for the 6666 Ranch. I have already placed an order to purchase the book on the Pitchfork Ranch.

I am a King from Georgia. I have just learned that some of my King ancestors owned a large ranch in Texas. Do you know if the 6666 Ranch or Pitchfork Ranch was owned by Kings

I have a book called "King County: Windmills and Barbed Wire". This book covers King County, Texas. There is a W.C. King originally from Paris, TN who arrived in Texas in 1914. This info was entered into the book by his wife Deva C. King, 3729 Gene Lane, Ft. Worth, TX 76117. This book was published in 1976 so I doubt that she is still around. It appears, according to the book, that the 6666 Ranch was started by Burk Burnett. The ranch is still, or was in 1976, in the family. The Pitchfork was started by D.B. Gardner and Col. J.S. Godwin. I don't see any mention in the book of a King being owner of either ranch.

I will investigate further. I also found King Springs Ranch in San Antonio that was started by a King so I am not sure which one is the ranch I am looking for. I will be interested in the book if it turns out to be 6666 Ranch. I will let you know. Thank you for your reply.

The King Ranch ("the oldest and greatest ranch in Texas" per Mona D. Sizer) is not in King County, but in south Texas nearer the Gulf Coast. First owned by Capt. Richard King, who came from New York. I have a copy of "The King Ranch Story, Truth and Myth" by Mona Sizer (who has written more than 20 romance novels). She lists about ten more books about the King Ranch as her sources, so I am sure you will be able to find considerable documentation on the Kings
