Are there any Hardin's living in Kerr county that had ancestors
who came from Ky. or Tenn. around 1850 to 1880? Had any
ancestors named Benjamin Hardin with or without the name Franklin as a middle name?
I am looking for my granddad's half brother named Ben
Hardin, who may have been born about 1864 probably in Tx
My granddad was John T. Hardin. He was born in 1854 in
Grayson county,Tx..

Are you aware of the John and William Hardin in the 1860 Gillespie Co. census? They say they were born in Indiana.
Part of Gillespie Co. could have been separated to form Kerr?

Did you get any answers Mr Fannin? Kerr County and Gillispie County are side beside so they might have been so close that they might have been enumerated in a different county. In 1860 John Wesley Hardin would have been only seven years old.

Since writing my post 2 whole years ago, I've found out valuable information. My granddad's parents came from Arkansas. They were John H. Hardin and Roxcina P.Hart Watson Hardin. They were born about 1826.
My granddad John T. Hardin was born 1 Jan 1855 in Grayson county, Tx. His brother Benjamin Franklin Hardin was born in 1865 in Kerr county, Tx.,and his youngest brother Jacob
also born in Kerr county in 1870.
Brother Benjamin stayed in Texas and lived in San Antonio, with his wife Helen(Fitzgerald)Hardin and their family.Jacob stayed in Kerr county until 1902. He and his wife Martha Caroline(Hearne)Hardin and family moved to New Mexico territory where they settled.
I have since found out in the last year that my Granddad John T. Hardin had been married before. He had a son named Ben whom his parents were raising, through 1902. Both of John T. Hardin's parents died in 1902. His Dad in about April. His Mom Roxcina died in October while enroute during the move with her son Jacob and wife Martha "Mattie" and family to New Mexico territory. Roxcina is buried on the C Ranch, a very large cattle ranch, in Andrews county,Tx. Buried on what was the Ranch's"graveyard".
I am still looking for John T.Hardin's son Benjamin Hardin who was probably born in 1880 or so., in Texas. He may have grown up to raise a family of his own, trying to carry on the Hardin traditions.

Even though I find that I'm mostly writing this to myself, John Hardin's Middle name was really William. He was named after one of his grandfathers: Capt. John W. Hardin, born in Kentucky territory in 1771. I surmise the territory may have been owned by Virginia back then. My grandfather had lots of trouble as he was growing up. Folks connected his name withe outlaw's, John Westley Hardin. A hardin was a Hardin. My John was younger than Wes by about 2 years, and may have looked alot like Wes too. My John W. felt doomed, as long as he stayed in Texas. About 1880 John William went to Chicago,Ill. by one of the first new trains. He met a young gal named Anna Vass(from Kentucky)who was studying business courses. She wanted to be a secretary. Anna was 18 years old then, and unmarried. I believe she had family living in Chicago or nearby. As things go in life, the young couple fell in love. Anna's brother would escort her to meet John when the two got together.
John tried a couple of times in Chicago to marry Anna, but always was dogged by John Wesley Hardin "followers"with wanted posters. In 1883 the couple came by train out to California from Illinois, chaparoned by Anna's brother. Her brother was going to be a gold hunter, come hell or high water! John and Anna married using the surname of: Harder in San Francisco, Ca.,on Jan.13, 1883.Anna used Voss as her maiden name. John changed his middle initial to T.once he began living in California, with his new bride.
