There is an Ellis grave in the cemetery. I am not sure it is Cora Ellis.
Many Scurlock Graves.

Confusing? This leads me to believe that Cora was married to a Scurlock, before she became a Ellis. All of the children are Scurlock children. I did not find them in the 1930 census.

Not sure if this is Leona Scurlock living in the Texas Baptist Orphanage in 1930. She would be the right age. If this is Cora,s daughter, it could be that Cora may have died before 1930. This orphanage was on Farley St. in Waxahachie, Ellis Co, Tx. None of the other children are listed here.

I checked the death records for Cora Ellis, but was not able to find it. Nor could I locate Cora being the mother to any of these children, under the Ellis or Scurlock name. I do not know what your records are, but with what info you gave, nothing seemed to fit.
I wish you good luck with this one. Sorry I could not help. Vidia

Thanks for your help. Wrong Cora Ellis, my dates are way off. My Cora was born in 1890's, married to a Scurlock, then re-married a Ellis about 1920. She died in the 30's, just not sure where she is buried. Thank you again.

Thank you Marty. The info provided is confusing. Your info did explain about why so many Scurlock,s are buried there, and why, if it was organized in 1906, it is not likely, that the Ellis grave is Cora,s grave. Thanks for your help. Vidia

Hi DSCherry. Do you know Cora,s maiden name? The way you posted, it looks like she was Scurlock. This would be helpful. What info do you have that she died around this time, and, who was the Scurlock she was married to? From the 1920 census I found, it appears she was married to a Scurlock, before the Ellis. I did not find them in 1930. What happened to these children, and when did Harry Ellis die? In order to find info on Cora, it helps to have as much info you can provide to researchers trying to help you. Good luck. Vidia

Hi. Thank you for responding. Cora was married to Thomas Fletcher Scurlock. She would be my great-grandmother. My grandmother was Ruby, and I knew all the siblings. They have all passed away now. T.F. or Frank, as listed in the 1910 census, died in 1919. She then married(?) Harry Ellis and is found again in the 1920 census. According to my grandmother, Cora died in the 1930's, she was about 40-50 yrs old. I know she lived around Crockett, Livingston as well as Houston areas. I have not been able to find her after 1920 census and when I ran across the cemetery record in Crockett, I thought it could be her. My Dad was born in 1931 and remembers her from when he was very young.(He is still living) Her maiden name was Hurley. Harry, I think died in 1958 in Houston, if that is the correct Ellis. He was remarried. The headstone in the Crockett cemetery was illegible, but I was hoping to find someone with the records to look up who it was. It may be another Ellis and not Cora, but the stories, dates I have from my grandmother yrs ago and location are very close. Any help is greatly appreciated. I thank you for your help. Sherri'

Marty, Do you know who I could contact regarding the records of this Ellis in Lake Creek Cmty? When I found the info, there was a photo of the headstone, but illegible to read. The dates listed are very close to those I have from my grandmother, Cora's daughter. She would tell me there was a large Scurlock site as well. My GM was a Scurlock, but not these, however they are relatives, others are out of Jacksonville, TX. I appreciated your help, Sherri'

Hi Sherri, Even after all the excellent info you have posted,I have not been able to find much. There is a tree on Ancestry.com that has the parents of Cora Hurley as John J. Hurley and Caroline? It states they were in Washington 1910 census. I don,t know how they were able to connect Cora. You might be able to contact the owner of the tree. It also has that she was born on 4 Jul.1892, and d.2,Jul,1939 in Harris Co. Tx. I could not find a death cert. on her. This is the census.

There is more info on the tree, that might help. The owner is Nancy Taylor and it is the Buckley family tree. This would be on the Ellis side, but they have a nice tree. Harry Bergman Ellis parents were Harm Ellis and Willie A. Buckley. There is a WW1 draft card on Thomas Fletcher Scurlock, and it states he was born 23, Jul. 1882. That was the only thing I was able to find. Wish I could have found more. Good luck. Vidia
