Hello; I'm so excited!!! Houston Co. got a grant to help clean up 80 endangers cemeteries. Mon. 3 groups of youngsters will start with rakes, weed eaters, hoes, etc to get started. Our county Judge Lonnie Hunt has worked hard to get the money for this project. Alton Moore has contacted land owners where many of these cemeteries are located. With the help of Mr. Hite's survey done several years ago these cemeteries have been put in order to get them done. Houston Co. has around 300 cemeteries. Alton is spreading the word on how important it is to get these cemeteries designated with Texas Historical Comm.

Today is Houston Co's. Birthday, oldest county in Texas. A Tribute to Eliza Bishop who has been Houston Counties historian for 60+ years. She has done many great things for this county.

Sat. some of our 261 historical markers will be cleaned up & repainted. Our "Adopt a Marker," is working. Houston Co. Historical Comm. is really doing a great job bring this to the public. hchc@co.houston.tx.us
