Good Morning,

I am researching the surnames of MAY & TURNER. I have very sketchy information on the 2 families, and any help would be appreciated.

Francis Marion MAY (my G Grandfather). was supposedly born circa 1863 in Shelby County, TX. This information is from a delayed birth certificate for my Grandfather, Marion Milton May.

Francis Marion MAY married 1st Luella GRUES 07-26-1883 according to Houston County Marriage Records.

Supposedly, (according to family history) he had 3 children from this first marriage: Jack, Jesse and Caroline?(Belzie)?

Francis Marion MAY married 2nd Mary Elizabeth TURNER 08-05-1906 according to Houston County Marriage Records.

Had the following children:
1. William Hilton MAY: b. 01-22-1908 d. July 1980
2. Marion Milton May: b.05-03-1910 d. 08-03-1966
3. Francis Levy May: b.12-09-1911 d. Jan. 1981
4. Floyd Merritt May: 07-26-1913 d. 01-25-1965

Francis Marion MAY apparently died circa 1913...where/when???

Mary Elizabeth TURNER MAY then married William Pinkney HICKS 05-13-1916 according to Houston Co. Marriage Records.

Had the following children:
1. Ruby Lee HICKS:
2. Dovie HICKS
3. Robert Herman HICKS

Mary Elizabeth TURNER MAY HICKS was born 07-26-1892 Elkhart Houston Co., Tx. she died 08-17-1953 Conroe, Montgomery Co., TX. (This is my G-Grandmother)

Mary Elizabeth was the daughter of:
John TURNER and Virginia (Jennie) MOREHEAD who were married 03-05-1886 according to Houston Co. marriage records.

John TURNER & Jennie MOREHEAD children:
1. Irey TURNER
2. Ella L. TURNER b. 04-08-1897 d. 10-02-1964
married Riley HELMONTOLLER.

The big mystery of the family is F. M. MAY....who were his parents, when/where did he die, where is he buried?

What happened to the children of his first marriage: Jack, Jessie, Caroline/Belzie?

Any info on the John TURNER or Jennie MOREHEAD families would also be appreciated.

According to family stories:

1. Irey TURNER was a WWI vet. He died around Corrigan, supposedly over a dog fight. A man hit him over the head with a hoe....

2. Belzie MAY married someone and they ran a "fishing business" near Coldsprings. My Dad visited them when he was a very young boy.

3. Jack or Jesse MAY worked for the border patrol. My Dad remembers him "dropping" in a couple of times when he was a kid.

I have pictures of the following people:

Francis Marion MAY, Mary Elizabeth TURNER, William Hilton MAY, Marion Milton MAY, Francis Levy MAY, Floyd Merritt MAY, Irey TURNER (and wife), Belzie MAY.

Any further information on the aforementioned would be greatly appreciated.

In addition to Peggy's research, the following from the 1870 MS census is interesting and might lead to M F May's father. See child number 10.

I descend from the John Turner line. John Turner was the brother to my great-grandfather William P. Turner Jr. John's father was W. P. Turner Sr. B: about 1828 in North Carolina the son of Patience Turner, father unknown. John's mother was Mary Caroline Proctor b: 1835 in Alabama d: December 27, 1876 in Porter Springs. She is buried in the old White Cemetery, I believe it is now Porter Springs Cemetery

The only information I have on John Turner and Virginia Moorehead, is they had one son Pinkney Turner b: 1904 d: December 10, 1910, he was only 6 years old.

I believe the Mary Elizabeth Turner b: May, 1892 would be my great aunt, I have no further information on her. I have quite a bit of information on the Turner side of the family if you need any further information please contact me edturner49 at hotmail.

Thank You so much, Ed! Mary Elizabeth Turner was my paternal G-Grandmother. I have pictures of her. The information I have regarding her parents came from her obituary and/or her funeral "book". (It's been a long time since I've reviewed all of my material) She is buried in Conroe. It's been awhile since I've looked at my genealogy files, but I'm very excited to have more information on the Turner line. I had reached a dead-end on this particular line.

If you will send me your private email address, I will send you the information I have. There is way too much to put on this forum. Send to edturner49 at hotmail.com

There is a part I would like to check with you on Mary Elizabeth. The 1900 census report from Houston county shows an Elizabeth M. (Mary) Turner b: May 1892, living with my g-grandmother, Laura A. Turner and my grand father A.P. Turner, could this possibly be the same as your Mary Elizabeth? Let me know and I will send what information I have.
