I recently received some photos from a kind person that wanted to get photos to a relative of Dr. Denny. It is a photo of him and also 2 photos of Mrs. Edward Pence and her adopted daughter. I had been researching the Tenney and Denny families for a lady so I contacted her and she did not want the photo! If anyone can prove they descend from Dr. Denny I would love to get the old photo to them. It is a small wallet type photo, very old....he died in 1897. So it is definitely old.
The inscription on the back of photo: handwritten- Dr. Denny, emblem of photographer and Jersey City, Newark Ave., New York.
I looked in the Houston Co. History Book and the photo of the Dr. William Henry Denny (1822-1897) looks to be the same person as the one in the photo I have.
The lady I was doing research for also possesses Bible records for the Denny family if anyone related might be interested in that I can give you her address.

Where was Dr Denny Born?Who was his spouce?Did he have children? Im Looking for a John,Thomas Or Henry Denny.The could be bothers? Amy help would be great as they seem to have not dissapeared in the 1880"s.

Thanks for the information. Do you think that William Henry Denny I and George Hutcheson Denny's father might have been brothers? I know that Dr. Denny came to Texas from Virginia and George Hutcheson Denny was born in Hanover County Virginia.

Dr. William Henry Denny was born in Richmond, Virginia, 1822, the son of Richard Samuel and Matilda Frayser Denny. After graduating from Hampden-Sydney College of Virginia in 1841 with a degree in Medicine, he moved to Texas and lived in several locations before moving to old Randolph Lodge, 229, A.F.& A.M., he was Junior Warden. He had, in the meantime, married Susan Amaranth Gayle, a daughter of Richard Gayle, who later had purchased one thousand acres of land fifteen miles south-West of Lovelady on Gayle's Creek. Dr. Denny later moved to Crockett and purchased the house, recently razed, that was located at the corner of Milan and Sixth Street. He formed a partnership with Dr. James L. Lipscomb, the father of "Dr. Will" who was beloved by past generations of County citizens. After the death of his wife, Susan, in 1870, and after moving to Crockett, Dr. Denny married Frances (Wooten) Slater, a native of Woodville, and widow of Frank Slater who lost his life in the Civil War. Dr. Denny was a deeply religious man, and was an Elder of the First Presbyterian Church of Crockett on Highway 7, (now owned by Charles Carter, a lawyer of Crockett) where he was living at the time of his death. He had ten children by his first marriage, four died in infancy. Martha Matilda, Mary Susan, and Anna Isabella never married. The latter two were school teachers.
