I understand everything you have said. This is not the first time that I have ordered a marriage license from somewhere. The point of my original message is that the telephone at "The Depot" is not being answered.

BTW: There is a county in Georgia that does not change for uncertified copies of marriage licenses. There is also a county in Arkansas that has old marriage licenses that can be downloaded from their web site.

If the marriage took place in Hood County then the County Clerk will have a record. License(s) are issued and returned to the appropriate county. Occasionally, newly married couple(s) fail to retrieve the completed documents from the clerk. There have been instances when those "uncollected" documents were made available to family members and/or societies. However, a record of those marriages are still maintained by the clerk.

Thanks, but, according to the web site of the Hood County Genealogical Society, the record I want, which is from the 1800's, is in their collection at the "Depot."

Marriage certificates are available from County Clerks. Some will provide plain paper copies for a nomial cost while others insist on a more costly embossed seal copy. http://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/voter/cclerks.shtml#M Call and ask the price.

Gregg or Greg Smith was in the navy, he was born maybe early to mid 1920's and was in Hood County Tx in the mid 1940's. He had a child with my cousin Leona Elizabeth Applin and married her. The baby was named Thomas Jefferson Smith (Tommy). I believe the marriage did not last long. I am looking for this man to add to my ancestry file and Tommy has never met or has any info on his biological father. Thank you.

Not related but interested in learning what "holes" remain? I don't see that surname on your tree. Too, the other public trees have not done a good job of documenting this family. FYI, the cited family tree: "MSJamesFamilyFile" is owned by member sjames9. Per user profile, she resides in Acton and is probably related? View her tree http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/36237072/person/18905442542 Click her logon name and forward email if desired? Possible "hole fillers": James Alec Kelley (7 Sep 1901 - 22 Apr 1955) died in Gregg but was a resident of Upshur County. Violet Mayfield (9 Mar 1884 - 8 Jul 1963) died in Erath and Tennie Harden was the informant. Tennie actually lived to age 105+! I checked for an obit but there's not much information. She outlived parents, siblings, husband, and children. More!

In birth order the children: Ed Roy, Virl Gene, Jimmy Jack, David Marion, and Peggy Viola. Jimmy Jack/Ethel Ann Porter had Jimmy Wayne, Robert Allen, and Larry Ray. Jimmy Jack/Theda Audine Avery had Gregory Stephen. Virl Gene/Martha Ann Thornton had Weldon Gene. Weldon Gene/Wanda June Brand had Wendi Renee, Weldon Kyle, and Wesley Gene. Ed Roy/Billie Rae Vanvelck had Bruce Edward and Elizabeth Charlene. David Marion listed as father of several by an equal number of mothers. Peggy Viola wed Richard H. Garcia and there is an online obit viewable on this website.

Per death certificate, she never married thus no descendants? All of her siblings, minus Alice and William K., have online death certificates. Should be no problem tracing survivors?

Obituary look up or death record/tombstone for William McReynolds "Mack" Van Zandt

I am trying to find a death record for William McReynolds Van Zandt. He also went by the name of "Mack". I believed he died in 1905 because a son with his last name was born in 1906 and his wife Ella Page married someone in 1906. I can't find a tombstone, death record or anything that shows when he died. Could someone look at an old newspaper for that time period or look up death records in Hood County, TX? I believe he died in that area since that's where they lived. He was born in Missouri in April 1870. Thankyou so much for your time.

If you will go to www.usgenweb.org then Texas then Counties then Hood then cemeteries you will find a listing of Thorp Springs Cem -- I checked and did not find a listing for her. Perhaps she is in another cem in Hood Co. Check the site. If she is in Parker Co cem you can go to www.graveinfo.net and click on Cemeteries and look at each one or you can try a global search from the front page of graveinfo.net.

You are welcome! I meant no disrepect! One of your earlier requests was responded to by Paula Sain. You indicated her conribution involved the wrong family. That lady is "flat out good" and perhaps the best person helping research Texas' genealogy. Thus, the reason for my questioning. Best wishes!

I have the right family. All of the info you mentioned is all Thomas and Linnie White. Thanks for the tip on L.H. Davis. I'll look into it. I knew Hoover was a part of Linnie's name, but could not figure out if it was a maiden or middle name. Linnie's Paul was my grandfather. His full name was William Paul White. He was most difficult to track down and the rest of the line is proving equally difficult.

Have read your earlier postings! Are you certain this is the family you are seeking? Thomas N. White probably died 1912-1920? In 1910 Wichita-Wichita Falls-District 227-Image 14, the surname "corrupted to "Whete". In 1920 Hopkins-Sulphur Springs Ward 2-District 65-Image 27, Linnie was widowed and head-of-household. In 1930 Hopkins-Sulphur Springs-District 3-Image 16, she and son Paul(18) shared a household. Don't know where sons Ira and Horace were but at least one (Horace) must have been nearby? View online death certificate at http://pilot.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#start Linnie Hoover White (27 Nov 1876 - 18 Jan 1965). Horace White (son) was the informant but did not know his grandmother's name. Find the family of L. H. Davis in 1880 Wood-Precinct 4-District 127-Image 62. Wood is south of Hopkins County. Lennie was a tragic figure? She lost 3 of 6 kids between 1900 and 1910. One of those 3 (Lola) is missing from the 1920 census along with the father.

Hi Debra,
I am e-mailing you a 3 page document. Let me know if you don't get it.
Also, I forgot to mention that there is a J.F. Meeks buried at Allison Cemetery, near Lipan, in Hood County. He might be the person who applied to be guardian of Major Campbell. The Cemetery is next to Allison Baptist Church. My John F. Elliott was a baptist. Perhaps, the Meeks and the Campbells were also baptists. Maybe the Elliotts took the Campbell boy in because of their church affiliation.
Just a guess.
Karen
Hi Debra,
My ggg grandfather was John F. Elliott who lived in Hood Co., TX. I did some research on your Major Campbell because I thought he might be a part of our family. Here's what I found out about him. According to the Hood County guardianship records, in 1888 J.F. Meeks applied to the court to be appointed as guardian of Major Campbell. He told the court he was the half brother of Major Campbell. In the 1880 census of Hood County there is a family of three Meeks brothers living together with no parents, John Meeks being age 12 at that time. This John may be the J.F. Meeks who was appointed guardian. I think the reason why he wasn't appointed earlier is because didn't turn 21 until 1888. I don't know why Major was living with my John F. Elliott between 1880 and 1888. Hope that helps.
Karen

If he swam and had a picnic as a casual thing, he lived along the Mississippi. It is half way to the east coast from Hood County. Not a casual thing to do.

If he was in Hood County, and he swam and had picnics on a river, it would have been the Brazos River.

Tommy

Was wondering if any can help! Would anyone know how far the mississippi river is from hood county! This is sort of a off topic question! I looked on maps and cant figure!

My reasoning for this question is my grandfather told stories that when he was a small boy,him and friends and family would picnic and swam along the mississippi river!the only census i can find with him as a young boy is in hood county texas!

So iam thinking looking on the map it looks like quit a distance from hood county tx to the river!

If any is familiar with this,Id really appreaciate some help!

I had thought also that maybe in between census records maybe my grandfather and family lived closer to the mississippi river in another state!

Any suggestions! Thanks Barb!
