I have been helping with a research project involving the Willis Kilgore family. Most of the queries on the message boards are quite old and I am interested in learning the latest regarding the family research.
We have various documents and a death certificate which names Willis Kilgore as the father of Allen Kilgore by presumably a slave of Willis's -- Ammy Wilson. Do you have any information or stories about this?
Are there plantation records or slave inventories that may name Ammy? Are there deeds or probate records which could shed more light on this?
Would so appreciate any assistance.
Deborah
dlcampisano@gmail.com

Candace Mings, I am Monroe's daughter and remember you well. You came to my home for a Williams reunion many years ago. I saw your Dad not too long before he died and was so happy to get to visit with him. My father died in 2000 from prostate cancer, he was 86 and his mind was still so sharp. We miss him very much. Your Dad thought a lot of my Mother, Jean. They went to school together...he used to pull on her pigtails and aggrevate her daily. His last message to me was to tell my Mother to quit smoking....I hope you see this...been may years since you posted. I don't do the research like my sister Elaine, but I do have a good memory. May God bless you. Carol

Looking for information on the Colonial Motel gas explosion on July 1, 1965. I can not find anything on it. William A Elder of Houston was staying at the motel at the time of the explosion and suffered 2nd and 3rd degree burns over 92% of his body. He taken back back down south for medical treatment but died a few days later. I also found that his widow filed suit against the motel.

I am looking for news from the Longview area about the explosion, that my have more details about the event.

Thank you

Chasity

Annette -

It's been a very long time, but there are a variety of sources. If you reply and are still interested, I'll run them down for you, but here's what I can remember without help:

Constantine Buckley Kilgore (b. 1835) fought in the Civil War and was captured at Chickamauga. He became a lawyer within a couple of years after the war, was the one who sold right-of-way to the International Railroad Co in 1871, which had a big impact on the region's economy (hence naming the town after him.) He was a local judge and probably state legislator before serving three terms in the US House (there is an official biography on their website). He was then appointed federal judge in the Oklahoma Territory for a few years, retiring to Van Zandt Cty where he is buried (White Oak Cemetary, asa I recall).

A Democrat during Reconstruction, the atmosphere in Congress was, believe it or not, more acrimonious than it is today. The Dems of the day were outnunmbered to the point they lost almost every vote and regularly tried to forestall legislation by staying away in numbers that would prevent a quorum. (Sound familiar?) One time there was a vote announced which they wanted to participate in, but the Republican leadership made a last-minute schedule switch once the Dems were in the chamber and someone cleverly jammed the exit doors shut. Buck Kilgore was said to have actually kicked down a door to the U.S. House of Representatives in order to get out. (My personal reaction after amusement is horror - at some point you've got to accept things as they are - the "high principles" being fought over then were vestiges of slavery anyway, so come into the nineteenth century already dude! I say the same to many politicians of today.)

Jim Kilgore

Patricia -

In 2004 you answered a query I'd posted several years before.

If you are still interested in Kilgore genealogy, I'd like to hear more of what you have. Between 1997-2001, I'd learned what I could and ran out of leads and to a large part interest. I did find a number of details - the Jackson Cty, GA marriage registry still exists - basically a ledger in which husband, wife and recording clerk sign, listing birthplace and nothing more, and Willis is listed as missing in records still maintained at the Wilson's Creek, MO Battlefield (I think it's a national historic site - a staff member e-mailed me what they had on file.) Willis and family are mentioned (including the death of the oldest daughter at age 4) in an informal Coweta Cty, GA history.

I also heard from a cousin of my father (Dana 1922-2009, grandson of John Thomas, Ann's brother 4 yrs younger) that there was still a family bible in existence, started by Willis and Isabella. This listed Isabella's parents as Ephraim Lindsay and Ester (not sure if a surname was given) born in Abbeville (not sure if town or Cty) SC. No parents listed for Willis, the same dead end I got throughout the search. Have lost track of the contact details through a couple of moves, e-mail migrations, etc., but the cousin's name was Fidelia Jane ________(?) and she lived in central TX. I spoke with her some time around 2006 and she may not be around any more but her daughter was the one who put her in touch and should in principle still be reachable.

If you are still interested I'll try to overcome my fear of the unknown and dig down to the records stratum in the garage.......

Jim Kilgore

Best chance for success: obit lookup Barton Hardie Daniels (SSDI: 27 Feb 1910 - 17 Apr 1997) received last benefits in Laird Hill, Rusk County. He/Mildred Mae Collum listed as parents of Barbara Ann Daniels. He was resident of Hardin County and found there on census/birth records. Online death certificate access http://familysearch.org/ Tura Josephine Collum (17 Aug 1885 - 10 Apr 1970) witnessed by Mrs. B. H. Daniels-daughter. Unable to validate Mildred's death but SSDI has a close match in Austin, Travis County.

My name is Kristina Bedair DeVillier. My great-grandfather was Edwin Bedair. Flora Belle was my great-grandfather Edwin's sister. In 2003, I put together a family reunion. I was blessed enough to meet Jerry Williams, Carla and Wayne Frazier, Dru Flannigan. I was also blessed in meeting and talking with many others from the different lines: Romalice, Marlin, and Roland. I don't know if Anna Belle Rose and Dixie Tarrance are still living or not. On Marlin's line the two that are left is Opal Bedair Sides and Doris Bedair Stinecipher. If you have a Facebook acct. I have started a Bedair Family Group. I would love to have you as a friend and also add you to the group. Kristina

I'm not sure if this is any help, or if you're around on this site anymore, but I'm very new to family history. I'm just now trying to make sense of my family tree, and have been searching specifically on my maternal grandfather's line (my mom and grandpa had a falling out early in my mom's life, and as such I know nothing about that side of the family).

Anyway, I've found that my grandfather's mother is an "Oden" from Gregg County. Her name is Elizabeth Oden (maiden name). As far as I can ascertain, she went by the name "Lizzie". Her mother is named Julia Oden. I cannot find any info beyond that, but maybe we'll be able to help each other some day in the future.

Online death certificates viewable/printable https://familysearch.org/ Ellen Liverpool (6 Jun 1853 - 4 Dec 1917) witnessed by Eva E. Smith-niece (daughter of Malinda). Eva died 11 Sep 1925 in Houston, Harris County. A. Elberry Jones (3 Dec 1891 - 13 Nov 1942) second(?) husband of Dana Mae and witnessed by her. Soon afterwards, Dana and kids relocated to California as evidenced by death records in that state: Danamae L. Jones (13 Nov 1895 - 10 Dec 1967), Charles Cecil Jones (19 Jan 1929 - 16 Jan 1982), and Mae E. Russell (26 Mar 1925 - 10 Jan 1997). Lookup Jones family in 1930 Gregg and find Elberry Jr. born about 1927. Sibling Sherley Yvonne Jones born 23 Dec 1932. Birth record listing Shirley Yvonne Jones as mother in Bell County probably accurate? The 1930 census identifies a stepson, James Tippett age 19. Dana wed Othello Miller 10 Jun 1918 so ........! Texas Birth Index James Edward Tippett/Thelma Juanita Green listed as parent of Gloria Annelle Tippett. You'll find records listing her as birth mother. Also, find birth records listing James Edward Tippett Jr. as father. Hazarding a "guess", James E. Tippett died Apr 1982 in Shreveport, LA per SSDI. I'm not related.

Feel free to email me jamieheadbraxton@gmail.com I will tell you exactly how I am related. Wilbur is my gr gr gr gndfather, Eva Mae my gr gr grandmother "who married Henry Clay Head", their son James Claude is my gr gndfather, son Lois Dean is my gndfather and my father is Jimmy Head. If you wish to explore futher with that I will gladly help you. Basically the only pictures I have are of Eva Mae Peterson and her children, grandchildren and so on. I wish you were looking into the Head family. I'm very curious about them as well and you seem to be very good at this. I get stumped and don't know what to believe about the census records because the names are sometimes not exact.

Thank you both so much. I did read about Nelson & Felicia in the previous posts , but it didn't make much sense to me since I wasn't sure who they were. I can't believe I could have some long lost distant cousins just a few hours away. What a small world.

Wilbur was the only child of Hiram Peterson and Felicia Jones-Lee-Peterson-Moore. It appears he died leaving a wife Mary, and 3 children living in Kilgore, Gregg, Texas. They are liste in the same census with Felicia and Hiram in 1880. Wilbur died before the census was taken in June,1880. Hiram and Felicia were married in 54 and shortly thereafter Nelson Lee showed up alive. There was a divorce and Hiram and Felicia married again in 1856. Felicia and Lee had 3 children: Barnard, Rosa and Flora.
Wilber/Wilbur L Peterson was Hiram's son but I am not certain if his mother was Roxania Davenport or Felicia Ann Jones whose first marriage to Hiram was in 1854. According to Wilber's Sept 1873 marriage in Oceana Co MI he claimed to be 20 years old making birth about 1853 and died in 1880 in Gregg County.

Paula
I think that pretty much everything is there. I can try and get you anymore information that you may need. I live in Lamar County and thats where most all of the Petersons (mentioned above) lived. As far back as I have gone is to Wilburn and Mary "Ricks" Peterson. Thats why I was wondering who Hiram is as far as the relation. Could he be Wilburns father or uncle???? I also have some pictures and access to more pics. Please let me know how I can help.

Hiram Sr is my gr, gr, grandfather. He was born in NY 1805. His son David is my Gr Grandfather, He was also born in NY and later moved to Elgin IL. My Grandfather, Murville was born there and he eventually moved to MN where my Dad was born. I grew up in SW Minn.
I have no quick answers for you; however we have quite an extensive Peterson Data base. My cousin and I are working on getting it loaded onto my computer but not on ancestry. So We will look for the two women you mentioned. Are they sisters? Can you give me any more info on them? I currently have a researcher looking for additional info on the Petersons but she has had some serious family problems and it will be some time before I have any clues as to the family past Hiram Sr. Will get back to you asap. Keep in touch and the more connections you can send me the better chance I will be able to assist you.
