All of the children were born in Harrison Co., TX.

As you might guess the name can be varied by Roberson/Robertson/Robinson/Robeson and etc.

What happened to Lola? Her son Frank A. Kelcher b 1887 in Minnesota is with her parents in 1910 Gregg Co. In 1910 there's a "Jack" Kelcher, married about 1895 to wife Annie, on the Jasper Co., TX census. The age & place of birth (Canada) fits except Jack says it's a first marriage. Texas death records has dates for John Girard Kelcher IF he is the one I'm looking for.

Cemetery resources in Longview?

Hello,

I've been working for awhile on my wife's family in the Longview/Gregg county area and I'm trying to find the burial location of Russell & Josephine POE. They were an African American family that came to Longview from Louisiana, and we lose track of them after the 1900 Census. Given their ages at this point (Russell in his mid 60's) and the fact that we can't find them anywhere in 1910, I'm thinking there is a good chance that they passed away in the early 1900's and are probably buried somewhere in Longview. Are there any experience researchers in the area that might be able to help steer me in the right direction to look? Thanks.

Does anyone know who the parents of Joseph Roy Sparkman were? He married Ruth Northcutt in Marietta, Georgia and they moved to Longview, Texas. They were the parents of Amelia Sparkman who married #1 to a Mr. Melton, #2 to Joseph Castleberry and #3 Paul Belding. Amelia was born October 11,1906, and died in 1992 in Longview. Paul died in February of 1989. In 1938 Amelia co-authored a book Northcutt & Allied Families which has some Sparkman information in it, so I have been told. I am working on the Sparkman genealogy and would very much like to know about Amelia and her father's ancestry. If you can help please e-mail me.

My Great-grandmother's name was Dora Reynolds, nee Dozier, married to Marshall Louis Reynolds. I found her as a widow with her two daughters, Nellie (grandma) and "Lena" on the 1930 census in Tyler, Tx. She is the widow of M.L. Reynolds in RoseHill Cemetery, section AB, and their son William is buried nearby. Dora is on the Tyler town directory as late as 1942. She may be buried in this county, as she was supposedly dead by the time my Mom was born in Longview in 1948. I'd really like to find out more about Dora's parents if possible. I am stalled at trying to find a death date or location for Dora, and cannot find a birth location without it. I would also be interested in talking with any descendants on this Lena's side. I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Gregg County , Texas as his home of record.

Soldier: WILLIAM PERRY BROWN, JR.
Born: December 18, 1923
Date of loss: Feb. 24, 1952. KIA

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 137 families in Texas that have not been located. There is one family from Gregg County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Ellen and Covington McLeod lived in Henry County, Alabama when the 1870 census was taken. Sometime between 1870 and 1880 they moved to Precinct 1 in Gregg County, Texas where they were enumerated in that Federal Census. I do not find the McLeod family in census after 1880.

Ellen Stone is mentioned as Ellen McGrede in the History of Judson School District at the Longview High School Website but I have not found anything on an Ellen McGrede in census records. Was she indeed Ellen Stone Covington McGrede? If so, where did she live. When and where died she die?

My great grandfather was a Rev in Gregg County (I believe he was still working as a Rev in Gregg County) and his obituary states he was a retired minister of First Christian Church. He had resided since 1961 in Kilgore and had moved there from Denison. He was survived by his wife Dorothy Louise Morgan (nee Schnell)

Kilgore ---- Services for the Rev. H. Daniel Morgan, 66, of
Route 1, Sabine, will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Christian Church with
the Revs. Sidney Spain and Chester Crow and Dr. Lewis McAdow
officiating. Burial will be at Peatown Cemetery, under direction of
Rader Funeral Home.
Rev. Morgan died Saturday at a Kilgore hospital after a long
illness.
He was a retired minister of First Christian Church. He had
resided since 1961 in Kilgore, moving here from Denison.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothy; two sons, H.D. Jr. of Fort
Worth and John Karl of Longview; two brothers, John of Huntsville and
William of Dallas; one sister, Mrs. Bill Bramlett of Houston; four
grandchildren.

Ellen and Covington McLeod lived in Henry County, Alabama when the 1870 census was taken. Sometime between 1870 and 1880 they moved to Precinct 1 in Gregg County, Texas where they were enumerated in that Federal Census. I do not find the McLeod family in census after 1880.

Ellen Stone is mentioned as Ellen McGrede in the History of Judson School District at the Longview High School Website but I have not found anything on an Ellen McGrede in census records. Was she indeed Ellen Stone Covington McGrede? If so, where did she live. When and where died she die?

Can anyone help me with this portion of the puzzle?

I have looked in every record that I can think of for relatives born in Gregg county. They are listed in the 1880 Census on the LDS website when I search in the International Genealogical Index. When I look throughout the Gregg county census, I can't find any Owens surnames at all. Does anyone have any direction I may try.

I am researching the death of Longview (Gregg-Harrison Co) City Marshal George M FABLER who was shot and killed by L L TEAGUE and his son L W at the Capitol Hotel in Marshall (Harrison Co) on 24 Sept 1886. Marshal FABLER had attempted to arrest Jeff TEAGUE 3 months earlier and the shooting was over this arrest attempt. I am interested in newspaper articles,family information and the burial location of the city marshal.

5. EUGENE, age 5, male, born in Texas

6. MARY F., age 5, female, born in Texas

We are related to Eugene Buckingham and have quite a bit on him, his siter Fanny and brother George. But nothing on his parents or other siblings. We do know that they returned to Gregg County, Texas and that the mother died and the father disappeared leaving the children orphaned. Family rumor has it that Eugene and Fanny raised some of then. We do know that the youngest, James, was adopted out.
Eugene and Fanny also are found in Harrison County, Texas, as adults.

Looking for descendants for this couple. They married about 1877 in Louisiana (probably Bienville Parish). She is the daughter of Lucinda Stocks and Amos F. Baker. Sophronia and Levy had 7 children: Robert, Franklin, Elve Russ, Cora, Lona, Lotha, and Bertha. They were in Gregg County, TX for the 1910 census. He was born in Gilmer County, TX, married around 1905 (wife possibly Mabel Bridges), and had at least three children (Jessie, 1906; Donna, 1910; Mabel, 1912). He was killed around 1920 in a refinery explosion in or around Gladewater, and is supposedly buried there. Please let me know if you have any information.

November 27, 1847 - March 30, 1937) Descendant of a Huguenot family who migrated to america in 1736, Oliver H. Pegues came to Texas with his parents from his native Mississippi in 1850. He moved to Longview in 1871 and became the town's first postmaster, Jan. 27, 1871. Pegues served as Gregg County Treasurer, 1875-1900. A merchant and banker, he was an early leader of the First Baptist Church. He was married first to Henrie Dyer (d. 1887) and later to Emma Overton (1856-1929), and had 8 children.

I was told the farm was close the the county line. Since Gregg was formed from Rusk and Upshur, I thought maybe I would find them here. Amos' parents I believe were Geo and Mandy Brown Johnson. Amos had a sister named Molly Johnson Phillips. Her husband was Wiley Phillips. Lenas parents were Alfred and Lettie Gadson. Lena's siblings were Mary, Martha, Robert, Mittie, Eliza, and Victoria. "George Williams" was supposed to have killed someone and changed his name to George and left the area, he was caught and he served 8 years in the pen. I would like to read more about this person.

Once here he married Eliza Jane Baker and when she found out about this murder she filed for and was granted a divorce.
