There is a wonderful book that I have come across at the library, "Grayson County, Texas Cemetery Inscriptions and Related Family Data". It is in three volumes, campiled by Mrs. T. E. Henry and Mrs. Sears Anderson. Published by Weldon I. Hudson, Hudsson Heritage Books, P. O. Box 18063, Fort Worth, Texas 76118. I have found alot of wonderful information in them. I found this in Dever, CO. It may be worth it to see if you can get them through inter library loan.

Would like name or names of cemeteries in Grayson Co. that were used ca 1860. G.G.Grandfather Richard C. Price is thought to have died about 1859 in Grayson Co. Would like to know for sure, and where I might find a cemetery that was in use then.

This is to alert anyone looking for families in some of the books listing names on headstones in Grayson County Cemeteries. Many of the names are misspelled in some published books. I know!! All my COTTEN family that are buried in the Van Alstyne, Grayson Co., TX cemetery are misspelled as "Cotton" in some of these books. The headstones clearly are spelled correctly and are very visible. Some people just don't take care in proofing their work when taking down notes or before publication. I have been trying for years to get to Van Alstyne to make a correct listing of each headstone in that cemetery, but since I live in Houston and Van Alstyne is 50 mi. N of Dallas, it's hard to find enough time to do that. When I retire in 1 or 2 years, if the cemetery has not been transcribed by that time by someone else, I plan on doing that.

Recently made a trip to Sherman, TX to visit their library.
They have a small but very nice section on genealogy. Was looking for my Great Grandfather John Newton Case. Within 10 minutes, and the help of a very nice lady in the library, we found where he was buried. They have several books listing the names of people buried in cemeteries located in Grayson County, TX. There is also another library in Denison, TX (about 5 miles north of Sherman) that has information. Suggest you try either or both of them if you are looking for Grayson County information

You are very right.
The website I go to that lists the cemeteries and inhabitants in Grayson County has errors that I've found. Particularly in listing Mercers as "Mergers". Those headstones are clear and easy to read, yet misspelled by the reporter... although he did a great job with a HUGE task.

Do you have family ties to the Mercers that are buried in the Cherry Mound Cemetery? Would like to communicate.
