There is an obit for S. W. in the "Pampa News" for Friday, 13 March, 1942. It says that he died at his home after a long illness at the age of 79. It says that he had resided in Pampa for several years. Surviviors were three daughters, Retha Carter, of Pampa; May Sumners of Wellington, Texas; and Mollcie Tucker, of El Dorado, Arkansas. He is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa.

Buried in the same plot as S. W. is Retha Floyd, born 9 June 1915. She died 8 April 1946. S. W. was born in 1862, so Retha was born he he was about 52-3. Was she from a second marriage? What happened to the Carter surname from the obit?

S. W. does not appear in any 1930s Pampa city directories that I have found.

There appear to have been several Floyd families in Pampa and also in McLean. I do not know how they fit together.

John A. Mead, Lovett Library, Pampa, Texas.
