Gonzales Co Deputy R.R. Coleman, d. 4 Nov 1896

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 3 Nov 1896 R.R. COLEMAN attempted to arrest Bill RHODES for disturbing the peace in Waelder on election day. There was bad blood between COLEMAN and RHODES' since COLEMAN had arrested Claud RHODES months earlier for gambling. When Bill RHODES questioned COLEMAN's authority, COLEMAN hit him in the head with his pistol. Bill's sister took him inside a building and his brother Claud gave him a pistol. Bill charged COLEMAN and both shot and mortally wounded the other. RHODES died that day and COLEMAN the next. ED. RHODES hit COLEMAN with a pool cue and was later sentenced to prison, but the case was reversed on appeal. I am searhcing for familty history, place of burial, date of birth etc. for R.R. COLEMAN.

-buried in Union Hill Cem near Nixon? Does the book have any info on J S Spillers ?
also anything on James M York and wife Frances L " Fanny" ? -
they have a J Cary Spillers " Nephew" with them in 1880 and again with widow Frances in 1900. He is listed by various names - John or Joseph Cary Spillers --Looking for the connection that makes him the nephew?
I have seen references saying that James M York came to Gonzales from Mississippi. If so Fanny would have been a 2nd wife.

Can anyone identify the people in these photographs?

http://cid-39b1db14c948ff3a.skydrive.live.com/browse.aspx/Mi...

I THINK these are pictures of the Reynolds and or Fisher families that may have belonged to Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds Fisher (26 Jul 1860-24 Aug 1936). Her husband was Walter Daniel Fisher (son of Thomas Dance Fisher & Martha Elizabeth Blackwell). Some of Walter Daniel Fisher's brothers settled in Gonzales County. Her parents were James P. Reynolds and Susannah Brasher of Fayette County.

My cousin Lindell thought this was the picture album of my grandmother Minnie Virginia Fisher Haile. I do not recognize these as being "Haile" pictures.

I think picture 2 is PROBABLY the wife of Robert W. Reynolds, brother of Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds Fisher. His wife's name was "Annie G." I do not know her maiden name.

I think picture 4 is the brother of Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds Fisher....Robert W. Reynolds.

I think the 6th picture is probably the child of Robert W. and Annie Reynolds. Her name was Estelle. Could picture 8 be an older picture of the same child?

Picture 11 was taken in Tom Green County (San Angelo). This COULD be Flavius Joseph Reynolds, brother of Elizabeth (Bettie) Reynolds. It COULD be his son Edward Manton Reynolds.

Picture 19 is James Walter Haile, son of James Thomas Haile and Mary Beaver Hodges.

Please contact me if you can identify any of these people.

Pat Kinsey
pa-ha-kin@austin.rr.com

I have been tracing my family history and have an ancestor named William Taylor. William was born in Dublin Ireland around 1832. He married Charlotte Bennett, October 1851 in Dublin Ireland. They proceeded to have the children listed below. I have no record of the family leaving Ireland until some of the sons do in the 1880's. I recently came across William Taylor's obit in the Irish Times and was shocked to learn that he died in Gonzales County Texas May of 1877 at the age of 45. I have no idea what he was doing there since his family was still in Ireland nor do I know the circumstances of his death or where he is buried. I am hoping some one can help me with this mystery.

Thank you,

Ellen Memmo

William Taylor Esq.
Ms Elliott:

My GGGrandparents Elizabeth Burleson and Beverly Watkins Stewart were married in Fayette Co., TX in 1843 and moved to the Peach Creek, Gonzales, TX area shortly after. By 1860 they were living in the Hopkinsville area. Beverly died in 1867 and I presume buried in the Hopkinsville Cemetery. Do you have listings for the burials in this cemetery?
She finally settles in Waelder, Gonzales, TX and remains there until her death in 1915 and is buried in Waelder Cemetery. It has been mentioned that she sold land to the Miller's for their store in Waelder-but no records. Hopefully there is information in your History Book that will give some insight to her life.
Thank you for taking your time to read my post-hopefully you will be able to direst me in my quest.

Sincerely,
Marcella Brandt
jandmbrandt@aol.com
Owens Owen Family - Elizabeth Owen/s m James Ramsay

Does anyone have information on the Owens family from Gonzales Texas. An Elizabeth Owens (b. abt 1812-14 Scotland) married James Ramsay /sey (b. abt 1814 Scotland). They appear to have married in Gonzales 29 March 1845. They had three identified children: James W. (b. Gonzales abt 1850), Texas (b. Gonzales abt. 1847), and Georgianna (b. Gonzales abt 1850). Hoping that Owens family may have information on James and Elizabeth that will open the door to my Ramsay connections in Scotland. I have posted another query on the Gonzales board outlining possible connect to Ramsays in Gonzales. Thank you, Catherine

GG-F James Deglish Ramsay immigrated to Texas in 1866 from Scotland. Have been unable to identify family in Scotland. Have learned of a new possible connection to Gonzales. One of James sons Charles W. (not be confused with another Chas. W. from Gonzales) married a Bertie Lawrence from Gonzales. Also, A Peter Ramsay immigrant of Scotland thru Canada, New York, and Illinois and his son Henry (wife Georgia and sons Charles S. and James S.) were living in Gonzales in 1880 census. Henry later moved to Houston area where Charles W. lived and one of his sons, James, died in AZ where James Deglish and family moved after living in Texas. There probably is some connection between Peter and son Henry and the other Ramsays in Gonzales. If anyone knows of this connection, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you, Catherine

In Gonzales County, Texas there is a marriage record for:
Isaac B. Nasur to Abbie A. Snell, February 22, 1919. I have been unable to find Abbie and Isaac on census records after their marriage. What happened to them? I wondered if the spelling of Isaac's surname was incorrect.
Anyone on the board ever heard of them? Any help appreciated.

Wanda Sloan Karnes

I have a copy of the deed from the Lamkin Family to the City of Gonzales when the family sold the Warm Springs land to the city. Would you like a scan of the deed? The Lamkin family retained the rights to the water.
The Warm Springs facilty in Ottine is still open. Brain trauma patients live there full time. The main facilty was moved into Luling- not San Antonio.
There was another Mineral Springs facility in Caldwell County. Burditt Wells. This was a hotel with mineral springs for guests to use. I have not ever heard there was one in Harwood.

You may be familiar with a Hospital by the name of Warm Springs. They are all over Texas. It originally was built in Ottine. They just closed it a few years ago, but the buildings are still there. I am not sure how much the spring runs now. It was orginally built to take care of people with polio. I am sure our County Archives department would have information for you and you could also contact the headquarters of Warm Springs Rehabilitation Hospital which I think is in San Antonio now. Hope this helps and is not too late for you.

I am not by my geneology stuff right now but from this post there could be a connection between our Porche/Hyatt lines if not the same one. My G-Grandfather was Frank Benard Porche that married Belle Hyatt. They are burried in Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum. I remember that there was a Callie on that side of the family. You mentioned Gonzales County. I have found information on the Porche's in the different census in Dewitt/Lavaca/and Gonzales counties.
I can't remember if I have any information on Belle or parents but I will look and repost if I do. My grandmother was Myrtie Viola Porche born in 1910.Myrtie married Kinard Alden Foster.

If I can help let me know.

Kevin Foster
foster400@aol.com
