I am fairly certain some of our ancestors homesteaded in the late 1800's--1906. They were William Fletcher Weir, his wife, Ellen Gray Johnson Weir and their 8 children. They had homesteaded property in Garden City, Glasscock county Tx. They bought what was called school land, sold out in 1906 and moved to Lea County New Mexico.
