Hello, My father was Homer Clarence Fendley, a child of
John Walter Fendley and Georgia Lee Holliday. The info I have is posted on ancestry.com in the following family tree:
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/468744/family?fpid=-207925428...

Good luck in your search. I believe the Beth you referred to is one of my cousins. Her dad, (my uncle), was George Fendley.

Melinda Fendley Strange
csi275@yahoo.com

I have background information on all these surnames. No one in the Wiggins family knew much about Jacob lassiter Herring and Paulina Ball family.

First of all, I don't believe Green Stuart Bardin died in Fayette County, Texas. I did find Bardins (Bardons, Bardens) in Fayette County, in 1850 and 1860. I then found Green Stuart Bardin in Grayson County, Texas, in 1880. (He is listed as G S Bardon.) John Stewart Bardin, along with his family, his mother, and his grandmother are in Indian Territy, Chickasaw Nation, in 1900. According to the birthplace of their children, they were there by 1887. The grandmother's name is Margaret Baker, 83. I believe the Baker is the name of a later husband. I believe she is the Margaret Stewart found on the 1860 census of Fayette County, Texas. Her husband is John Stewart. Green S Barden and his wife Martha, along with their sons John and Wiilliam E are living in the same household as the Stewarts.

On the 1860 Fayette County, Texas, census there is John, 53, La; Margaret, 45, La; Rebecca, 18, Tx; Mary S, 15, Tx

On the 1850 Fayette County, Texas, census, p 205, there is

J Steward, 43, La; Margaret, 32, La; Sarah, 14, Miss; Martha, 11, Miss; Rebecca, 8, Miss; Mary, 5, Tex

After I found the family in 1900, I then located this website that should be extremely helpful for you. He has were the families are located each census year.

http://boards.rootsweb.com/postmessage.aspx?p=localities.nor...

HERE ARE URLS FOR CEMETERY RECORDS FOR THE BARDIN FAMILY. THERE ARE PICTURES INCLUDED. JUST CLICK ON EACH NAME. PARTICULARLY CHECK OUT JOHN STEWART BARDIN AND JOHN PINK BARDIN.

http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSfn=H...

I am not related to this family.

Also,I believe that Jesse G. Thompson was one of Austin's Old 300. He received a land grant in Brazoria after migrating from Arkansas. And his heirs received a land grant for his service some years after his death at the Alamo.

Thanks for any info you can provide!

I'd like to know if they can help. I had a great-aunt who died in Richmond or Rosenburg in the 1890s. Maybe they have info about her or her family.

Thank you for your note. I had also been sent a copy of her obituary a few years ago; although it was incomplete in confirming her identity, it was highly complimentary to Mrs. Shannon’s long nursing career and fine volunteer work in Texas.

Doris was earlier m(1) 4 Nov 1943 at Camp Croft, Spartanburg, SC to my uncle, Capt. Francis Joseph Troy (b. 7 Aug 1915 Oswego, NY, son of Michael John Troy and Helena Rose Smith). Because of the war, they could not have had much time together, and there was no issue. Fran was killed in action at Hagenhau, France while leading a patrol on 25 Jan 1945. His grave is at the Military Cem., Epinal, France; he also has a memorial marker with the Troy graves in St. Peter’s Cem., Oswego, and is listed with the Academy’s war dead on a plaque at the south stair, Cullum Hall, West Point, NY.

Two of Fran’s sibs were also WWII vets. Mary Louise, LT ANC, d. 1946. Donald was a bomber navigator; he later resumed a teaching career and d. 1973.

To my knowledge, the family was last in touch with Doris in 1952. I believe she was stationed at Fort Rucker, AL when she last wrote, contemplating serving in Korea.

Thanks,
Mike Troy
Carmel, NY
According to the death certificate of Calvin Eugene Dickens, a son of J. A. and Mary Dickens, his mother's maiden name was Mary Pierce.

Calvin was born 16 January 1887 in Salado, Bell County Texas, (This is from his WWI Draft Registration Card.)

He died 11 December 1921 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. The informant was R. L. Dickens. (Could this be his brother, Robert L. Dickens?)

He is buried in Oak Cliff Cemetery.

According to the death ceritificate of their son, William Washington Dickens, the parents were John Aaron Dickens and Mary L Pierce.

I believe the Robert L (Lee) Dickens you want is found in Vernon Parish, La, in 1910. He is 33 years old. His wife is Dovie. They have three children, Thelma L. (Lee), Ethel M (Mae) and Durwood C.

In 1900, Robert L. Dickens is living with his father-in-law, Dock Stroope in Bell County, Texas. Robert's birth is given as November 1876, in Texas.

In 1920, Robert Lee Dickens and his family are in Dallas County, Texas. I believe this solidifies the fact that this is the Robert Dickens that is the son of John Aaron Dickens and Mary L. Pierce, since his brothers William Washington and Calving Eugene were in Dallas County.

Thelma Dickens, Robert's daughter and Dorothy Dovie Stroope Dickens both died in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. I cannot find a death record for Robert Lee Dickens.

I have more information. If you will tell me what you are looking for in connection with Robert Lee Dickens, maybe I can help you.

mkparker@consolidated.net

Here is the proof you need. Here is the burial record of Corine Gaskin at Houston National Cemetery.

U.S. Veterans Gravesites, ca.1775-2006
about Corine Gaskin
Name: Corine Gaskin
Service Info.: TEC 5 US ARMY
Birth Date: 1 Sep 1928
Death Date: 8 Feb 2003
Relation: Wife of Gaskin, Guy H
Interment Date: 14 Feb 2003
Cemetery: Houston National Cemetery
Cemetery Address: 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive Houston, TX 77038
Buried At: Section O Site 1258

Here are the children I find for Guy Daniels and Ella Jeffrey (Jeffries or Merriwether?):

1) M. Valoria Daniels b. 22 Feb 1889, Jackson County, Texas, d. 11 Sept 1930, Victoria, Victoria County, Texas. Spouse: John Edwards. She is probably buried in Sayles Cemetery, where her parents are buried.

2)Leonard O'Neill Daniels, b 16 August 1891, Edna, Jackson County, Texas, died 30 January 1965 Buried in East View Cemetery, San Antiono Texas

3) Addie Birdie Daniels, b. 10 Dec 1892 or 1893, d. 10 Aug 1971, Victoria, Victoria County, Texas. Spouse: 1) Leroy Gaskin, Sr., 2) Louis Estus

4) Rosie Lee Daniels, b. January 1896.

5) Leroy Daniels, b. 10 April 1093, Jackson County, Texas,
d. 30 May 1923 Edna, Jackson County, Texas. Buried in Sayler or Sayles Cemetery, Jackson County, Texas

They had grandchildren living with them. Clifford was listed as their son on the 1920 census, but was called their grandson on the 1930 census. They also had Alma Butler and Florence Daniel, Granddaughters living with them in 1930. Lutisha Daniels, a granddaughter is living with them in 1920.

I believe that the parents of Guy Daniels were August Daniels and Purdence Jackson. Guy's death certificate says his parents were Gus Daniels and Mary Danils. However, Guy's brother Handy Daniel's birth certificate said his parents were Gus Daniels and Prudence Jackson. In 1870 August Daniels is married to Prudence. They are living in Jackson County, Texas. In 1880 August Danielsis living with his mother Kate Howard in Jackson County, Texas.

I believe the second wife of August Daniels was Mary Smith. They had several children.

On Ella Daniel's death certificate, her parents are listed as Volney Jeffries and Alice Coursey. However, on the 1880 census Alice's husband is John B. Merriwether, who was 30 years old. Ella was 13. It is possible that Ella was born before Alice married John Merriewether. I find a Volney Jackson living in Victoria County, Texas in 1880. Ella was born in Caldwell County, Texas. On some of her siblings' death ceritificates, the mother's name is listed sas Alice Cosey. In fact, on Alice Merriwether's death certificate, her parents are listed as Helmsley Cosey and Delia Cosey.

On the 1870 Caldwell County, Texas, census his name is given as Hensley Coursely and Delia. He was 52 and born in Maryland. Delia was 50 and born in Virginia. The children at home are Anne, Hensley, Nelson, and Mary.

I have more, but you may already know all of this.

mkparker@consolidated.net

I am not related to this family.

Most people are probably aware of this new resource, but if not, it is definitely worth checking out.

The death certificates for the state of Texas for the years 1890 - 1976 are available online through the LDS website. These are actual images of the death certificates and not the index that just states the name, date, and county of death. These are the same certificates that you have to puy upwards of $20 when ordering from the state.

Here is the link:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

If the viewer does not work on your computer, simply update your flash player when prompted.

Enjoy.

Re: Seeking an obit

We do not have these obituaries on file.

I can try to look them up but some additional information would definitely help. I think that 1910 is too early for an obit, but I'll check it out.

Do you have death dates for these individuals? I see an Annie L. Fields, born 1859, died 1935 (no date), wife of J. T. "Sovereign" Fields. Is this the same Anne Fields?

I do not see a Caroline Short in the cemetery index.

James,

Here are the obituaries that you requested:

Kroesche, Hulda, Rosenberg herald, 4 July 1941:

"Funeral services for Mrs. Hulda (Edwin) Kroesche, 39, of Needville, who answered the last summons at the home of Mr. Kroesche's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Kroesche, of Rosenberg, last Sunday night, June 29th, were held in Immanuel Evangelical Church of Needville, at 3:00 o'clock, Tuesday afternoon, July 1st. Kroesche.

Mrs. Kroesche had a life long ailment, which became more serious about 10 months ago. Last week she was taken to the Scott and White Hospital in Temple for a final examination, returning to the home of Mr. Kroesche's parents last Friday. She was in good spirits both going to and coming from Temple, but Saturday afternoon she took a turn for the worse, which proved to be her last struggle and suffering, she died at 9:20 o'clock, Sunday night.

Surviving and sorrowing her early departure are her husband, Edwin; two daughter, Eddie Lou and Hilda Fay of Needville; four brother, Willie, Fritz and Walter Ellerman, all of Needville and Paul, in training in Camp Bowie, Texas; Miss Martha Lohmeyer and many other cousins, relatives and friends.

Her parents and one sister preceded her in death.

Pallbearers were: Messrs. She was confirmed March 22, 1891 at New Braunfels. She was united in holy wedlock to Mr. Robert Kroesche Dec. 14, 1898, at New Braunfels. This union was blessed with 6 children, 2 daughters and 4 sons. She moved to Fort Bend County in 1912, locating on a farm in the Cottonwood Community. She moved to Rosenberg in 1925 and lived here continuously until the time of her sudden death. She had a host of friends by whom she was held in the highest esteem. She was a loving wife and a kind mother.

She had a fine Christian character. She was a faithful member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Rosenberg and the Lutheran Ladies Aid Society for many years. Mrs. Kroesche had been suffering with a heart ailment for a period of about 2 years. During this time she was critically ill a number of times, but always recovered again. During the week preceding her death she had been feeling much better than usual. She became critically ill again late Friday afternoon, Oct. 10th, and after a short period of severe suffering fell asleep in Jesus at 6:45 o'clock. She attained to the age of 70 years, 1 month and 1 day.

She was preceded in death by one son, two sisters, four brothers and one grandson. Kroesche, Herbert Reeh, Eugene Stratemann, Oscar R. Stratemann, Alvin Reeh, Max A. Bormann, and Martin L. Kroesche."

There is another obituary from 16 Oct 1947 in the Texas Coaster but it doesn't include any additional information and is less detailed than the Rosenberg Herald obit that I have provided. I can still provide it if you would like.
