She served in WW II and, we believe, Korea.

I note that a Capt.
Texas Death Certificates Online

There is a great new resource available for Texas genealogists. Most people are probably aware of this new resource, but if not, it is definitely worth checking out.

The death certificates for the state of Texas for the years 1890 - 1976 are available online through the LDS website. These are actual images of the death certificates and not the index that just states the name, date, and county of death. These are the same certificates that you have to puy upwards of $20 when ordering from the state.

Here is the link:

http://search.labs.familysearch.org/recordsearch/start.html#...

If the viewer does not work on your computer, simply update your flash player when prompted.

Enjoy.

William brought all of them from Alabama to claim their father, Jonathan Scott's Mexican Land Grant on the West side of San Bernard River in Whorton County. They arrived in 3/1829. I believe Johathan and wife never arrived in Texas. I have been unable to trace their parents or William, Letty, Rachel or Moore/Mose.

I have just acquired my gg grandmother's death certificate and was surprised to find that she was buried in Richmond, Fort Bend County. Apparently her son, Walter Green Booth, lived in this county in Rosenburg at the time.

I was wondering if anyone knew of a grave for Addie V. Dorsey there. I could not find it online. Her death certificate had her down as "Addine Booth," --Booth being her first husband's and son's surname, although she had married Allan Dorsey since. So he may have buried her under that name, also. This was the first time I saw a name other than "Addie", too. She died 15 Oct 1921.

Thanks! Carol

I am hoping to varify that she is indeed my Marie Scallan. Any help with this problem will be greatly appreciated.
Kathy Adams

What on Earth Happened to This Williams Family

Theodore Mortimer Williams supposedly died in Fort Bend, Co., TX in November 1861, according to what was written in the old family bible. This bible was handed down through Theodore's brother's line (in Arkansas).

Theodore was born in Chester District, SC in 1817, moved to Arkansas with his father during the 1840s. Per the 1860 census, he was still living in Jefferson Co., AR with his wife and seven children. Theodore was a Doctor by profession.

What is very strange about his family is that his children seem to have disappeared after the 1860 census. There is no sign of his sons George Davis Williams (b. SC in 1841), John D. Williams (b. AR ca. 1849), Edwin A. Williams (b. AR ca. 1852), Samuel L. Williams (b. AR ca. 1855), or Oliver P. Williams (b. AR ca. 1858) on any of the census records nationwide after 1860. I cannot even find a close match in the census records for any of these male children. It is a little unusual not to find anything considering the number of of them.

A number of questions about what may have happpened to them have come to mind. Could Theodore have taken his family with him to Texas and all of them died from an Indian attack? Or, could they have died from a epedimic in the Fort Bend County, TX area?

Any help with finding information on what happened to this family or with finding records such as Wills, Estate Papers, Burial Plots (for Theodore, his wife [Ellen Darby Williams], and/or his children) would be greatly appreciated.

Family recollection is that Mattie drove a wagon back to Arkansas from Texas "by herself". I am looking for any information on the death of Ben, or possibly the marriage of his son, Belford B, or daughter, Lissie.

Would appreciate any help.

Hunter/Downs/Hill families

Looking for some help to solve what appears to be two cemeteries with quite a number of the same people (including several surnames) listed as buried there. The two cemeteries in question are located @160 miles apart. I will show the cemetery listings below for comparison along with other details in hope that someone can help me understand the connection between these families and locations.

First of all I am a descendant of William A. Hill (1823-1891) & Anna Adalaide "Addie" Downs (1825-1897). William A. Hill was born 31 March 1823 in South Carolina. I have no further information on who is parents may be or any siblings. His wife, Ann A. "Addie" Downs, was born 27 April 1825 in Laurens Co. SC. She was the daughter of Samuel Downs and Elizabeth L. Jones of Laurens Co., SC. This couples marriage is listed as "DOWNS Adalade, HILL William 19 Nov 1844 Laurens Co. SC" in South Carolina Marriages A-F. It appears that this family along with the family of Adalaide Downs' brother, Thomas Jones Downs, migrated from Laurens Co. SC to Mississippi between 25 September 1845 and 05 July 1846. William A. Hill and his brother in law Thomas J. Downs served with the 18th Battalion Mississippi Cavalry, Company H "Peach Creek Rangers" during the civil war out of DeSoto Co., MS. There were two other Hills listed in this unit, Hill, J.W. and Hill, W.M., but have no idea if there is any connection. I have found this family in the 1870 Census of DeSoto Co., MS living in the Arkabutla area. In approx. 1878 the families of William A. Hill and Thomas J. Downs migrated to Travis Co., TX. They are found in the 1880 Census of Travis Co., TX living in the eastern rural area of Travis County, south of the Hornsby Bend area.

According to what I had previously learned, they lived in the Hunter Bend area of Travis County. This community was built by William Dunlap Hunter. According to one source:

Hunters Bend
William Dunlap Hunter left his home in Huntersville, South Carolina in 1858 with plans to travel to California. Hunter, however, never reached his original destination. By 1859, he had settled near Hornsby Bend in eastern Travis County. His plantation, located about twelve miles east of Austin on the northern bank of the Colorado River, became a self-sufficient community known as Hunters Bend. The grounds included a blacksmith shop and two gins, as well as a garden, a greenhouse, a grape arbor, and a cemetery. Employees were paid in script that was redeemable for merchandise at the plantation's general store.

http://www.ci.austin.tx.us/library/ahc/outside/hunters.htm

I am not sure of the connection with the Hunter family but it appears that it involves the Downs family. All of the families originated in South Carolina.

Recently I was contacted by someone who was working on a book listing burial sites of Confederate soldiers buried in Ft Bend Co., TX. She had found William A. Hill buried in the Hunter Cemetery, Ft Bend Co, TX. Being curious I checked it out and there he was, same name and dates but approx. 160 miles away in the Dr. Johnson C. Hunter Cemetery. Comparing the names and dates listed there were other family members and people listed in the Travis County cemetery. Both were at communities of the Hunter family. Not sure if there is a connection between William Dunlap Hunter and Dr. Johnson C. Hunter, maybe someone out there knows. Online listings for these cemeteries can be found at:
http://www.home.earthlink.net/%7Ehuntercemetery/ Section II – Other Graves

ftp://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/tx/travis/cemeteries/hun...

Can't help but believe there has been a big mix up here, the names/dates are too similar, if not exact matches. If you have information concerning these families and the cemeteries please
contact me.

Rex McLaurin
rexmclrn@hotmail.com

My grgrandparents, P. F. & his wife Mary Catherine "Molly" Ward first settled in the Guy, Texas area in about 1890. They spent the next twenty years there rearing their children - 1)Luda married Dudley BELL; 2)Thomas Lee married Nettie GRANGER and Stella HAMAN ; 3) Walter William married Jane LANE; 4) Phillip "Fred"married Louise McKINLEY; 5)"Jesse" Floyd married Eula HOPKINS & Olivia WILSON; 6) Neva married Leon D. ROBERTS; 7) Garna G.married Francis Eugene HUBBELL; and 8) Bennie Dee "Doc" Ward married Louise MULLER. The Wards left Ft. Bend County about 1910 for Midland, but were only there for about a year. When they returned to Ft. Bend County, they moved into the City of Rosenberg. P. F. Ward was the first settler in Guy, Texas. He farmed and was a country doctor for the area. I would like to share information on this family with any other descendants or persons who may know about this family.

Ms. Frankie Randall
frankie305@msn.com
Hello. I was hoping to find someone who might know of this area near Rosenberg. I'm looking for any possible markers that could be out on this property. They would date back to the 1830s on Henry Scott himself and a few of his kids. I wouldn't know of any other burial place back then so if anyone has some suggestions and knows this area, please email me.

Thanks

Chuck Parker
Tejas1829@aol.com

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. Im researching the death of TDCJ Dog Sergeant Henry WARD who was killed by 8 escaping prisoners at the Imperial farm No. 2 near Richmond in Fort Bend County on 27 July 1928. Raymond HALL, alias R H TUCKER, was formerly charged with the murder. During the search for the escapees FB Deputies Frank BELL and Tom DAVIS were wounded.DAVIS' wounds were serious. I am interested any personal info on Sgt WARD, where he is buried etc. Also did Deputy DAVIS survive his wounds? Was HALL convicted of the slaying, and what was disposition of the case?

I found my grandfather, Frank Susilla, and family on the 1900 .Ft. Bend County Federal Census. The town was not stated on the census, only Justice Precinct #1.He was listed as a saloon proprietor. He left his family in early 1900's, after moving to Bryan, TX. I have very little info about him, but do have about his wife, Adela Polansky and family. Does anyone know what town would be Justice Precinct #1? Any info about him would be appreciated. Many thanks.

If anyone has information regarding the shooting death(s) of a Dr. Feris (Ferris?) and a Mr. Thompson in Richmond Texas sometime during the end of the 1800's / beginning 1900's, please let me know. While going through old family papers / letters there is one letter (dated 1930) that talks of how "Grandfather Thompson" shot and killed his brother-in-law, Dr. Feris on the streets of Richmond. It also goes on to say that Dr. Feris' son (Randall?) was also there and that he in turn shot and killed 'Grandfather Thompson". I found a Dr. Feris cemetery with a "Yendall" buried there, but no Randall. I have no other information on "Grandfather Thompson" other than he was injured in Shiloh not long before this shooting. He had at least one child, Clara Thompson who in 1874 married my ggfather Matthias Chilton. All info appreciated.

Theodore SCHMIDT-Anna BEHRINGER of Richmond area

Am seeking information about Theodore SCHMIDT (1860-?) and his descendants. He was born 12 Oct 1860 in New Braunfels (Comal Co., Texas), married Anna BEHRINGER (also spelled as BERINGER) on 23 Aug 1884 in New Braunfels. She was born 28 Aug 1861 in New Braunfels. They are reported to have moved to the vicinity of Richmond or Needville in the late 1880's. A death certificate is found for Anna BEHRINGER SCHMIDT on 23 Sep 1933 in Fort Bend Co., indicating death at age 73 in (rural?) Precinct 1 of Fort Bend Co., with an informant of Theodore SCHMIDT of Richmond. The cemetery location is not listed. There is a family story that Theodore SCHMIDT may have lived with son George after this in Houston, and died there.

This is what I have on the children:
Alma SCHMIDT b. 1885 m. Edward KASCH
Katy SCHMIDT b. 1887 m. Frank SCHULKE
Harry SCHMIDT b. 1889
Lizzie SCHMIDT b. 1891
Thekla SCHMIDT b. 1895 m. William VEITH
George SCHMIDT b. 1896
Theodore SCHMIDT b. 1901

There may also have been a grandson named Theodore SCHMIDT, born about 1913. It is not known which of these "Theodore's" was the informant on the 1933 death record.

I have substantial information on the ancestry of the SCHMIDT and BEHRINGER families which can be shared, but would like to establish the fate (death date & place, burial location) for Theodore and Anna, as well as obtain information on their descendants.
E. G. Robinson and Anna Louisa Jackson Pike Co, MS; Ft.Worth, TX; Fort Bend, TX

I have hit a brick wall for the last ten years on this ancestor. A family letter indicates that Anna Louisa Jackson (d/o Elsaphane Jackson and Mary Stokes - Anna first married a Baynard) married an E.G. Robinson circa 1867. To them was born:

William T. April 13, 1868 died "young" in Texas- Fort Bend?
D.G. (Donald Green?) December 04, 1869 born in Summit or Hattiesburg, MS
Kate Rosa January 10, 1871 d:September 13, 1873
Amarintha Madora April 03, 1874 d:November 18, 1875
Cornelia April 11, 1875 d:July 17, 1876

In 1877 the family moved to Tarrant Co; TX. E.G. is listed in the Ft. Worth city directory as living at a Tucker's house. It is either prior to the move or immediately after that Anna Louisa Jackson died.

In the 1880 census I find a Willie T. Robinson working for a family in Fort Bend TX (age and place of birth fit) and E.G. is living there as well working as a carpenter. He states that he was born in MS about 1832. In December of that year - E.G. remarries a Mary James? Jones? in Fort Bend. No mention of Donald Green Robinson.

In the 1890 census I find Donald Green Robinson working at the state convict camp in Fort Bend Texas. Donald Green Robinson later moved to Snyder TX and married Leona Pearl Wolf.

During the early 1930's just prior to his death Donald Green visited often to Sugarland TX which is in the Ft. Bend area. Was he visiting family? Where are his mother Anna Louisa and the young sibling children buried? Who was the second wife of E.G.? Who are E.G.'s parents? What in the heck does E.G. stand for?

Hope you have info - please post.
I am seeking information on a man named A.L. Drayton who is listed on the 1860 Census for Richmond, Fort Bend County, Texas. The census listed his occupation as a "clerk" and stated he was originally from South Carolina.

It appears that he served with the 4th Texas Infantry early during the Civil War, then later in the Confederate Navy, and finally after being captured with the Union Navy.

I would appreciate hearing from anyone with any information on A.L.
The information I obtained through Rootsweb, Texas Death Records is that Maree Donnelly Amison died in Fort Bend County. However, the information from the Social Security Death Index is that she died in the Houston area, zip code 77025.

Maree was the youngest sister of my late grandfather, John Donnelly, of Pittston, PA. I am trying to locate an obit for her to see if I can locate other family members.

Would zip code 77025 extend into Fort Bend County? Does anyone know which newspapers might have been published in or for Fort Bend County in March of 1969? This info would help me try to obtain an obit for her.

Thanks,
Robby

Searching for Descendants of C.H. Rawson and Margaret B. McDaniel/MS/TX

We are looking for the descendants of C.H. Rawson (sometimes spelled Rossin) who was born -- probably in Lauderdale County, MS -- in 1843 and his wife Margaret B. (sometimes Bethlehem Margaret) McDaniel born in Mississippi in 1845. C.H. Rawson appears to have served in the Civil War with the 41st Mississippi Infantry, Company C.

C.H. Rawson and Margaret McDaniel were married in Lauderdale County, MS on Jan 8, 1868, and moved to Texas several years later, settling (perhaps) in Navarro Co, TX. They had a son George T. (born in MS in 1869), a son Robert (born in TX in 1871) and a daughter Amie (born in TX in 1873). C.H. Rawson died before October 15, 1876, the date on which his widow (Margaret B. McDaniel Rawson) married T.G. McNeely (born in AL in 1820) in Navarro County, TX. The family subsequently moved to Wise County, TX where T.G. McNeely died in 1882. Margaret B. McDaniel Rawson McNeely remarried in September of 1886 to John L. Miller in Wise County, TX, but died in childbirth on July 6, 1888 (probably in Wise -- but possibly in Navarro -- County, TX).

C.H. and Margaret McDaniel Rawson's oldest son -- George T. Rawson -- appears to have been living in Fort Bend County, TX in the 1930s; while their second son -- Robert -- appears to have been living in Navarro County, TX at that time. The whereabouts of their daughter -- Amie -- at that time is not known.

If this family sounds familar to you, please let us hear from you.

Where are they buried and are the dates correct?

Is it possible to get an obituary?

Thank you,
Glenda Rowland
