Surnames: Radford, Shannon, Troy
Thank you for your note. I had also been sent a copy of her obituary a few years ago; although it was incomplete in confirming her identity, it was highly complimentary to Mrs. Shannon’s long nursing career and fine volunteer work in Texas.

Doris was earlier m(1) 4 Nov 1943 at Camp Croft, Spartanburg, SC to my uncle, Capt. Francis Joseph Troy (b. 7 Aug 1915 Oswego, NY, son of Michael John Troy and Helena Rose Smith). Because of the war, they could not have had much time together, and there was no issue. Fran was killed in action at Hagenhau, France while leading a patrol on 25 Jan 1945. His grave is at the Military Cem., Epinal, France; he also has a memorial marker with the Troy graves in St. Peter’s Cem., Oswego, and is listed with the Academy’s war dead on a plaque at the south stair, Cullum Hall, West Point, NY.

Two of Fran’s sibs were also WWII vets. Mary Louise, LT ANC, d. 1946. Donald was a bomber navigator; he later resumed a teaching career and d. 1973.

To my knowledge, the family was last in touch with Doris in 1952. I believe she was stationed at Fort Rucker, AL when she last wrote, contemplating serving in Korea.

Thanks,
Mike Troy
