I am looking for information about Albert V. (A. V.) Harris and Middleton Pope (M. P.) Harris who were listed as residing in Floydada in 1932 (in their brother Britton J. Harris' obituary). My 2nd cousin Rel Davis has them in Ralls in 1935, the year they both passed away. I found M. P. in the listings for the Cone Cemetery but haven't found anything on A. V. They were all born in Georgia and I would like to know where in GA and when they came to the South Plains and what they did for a living, etc. B. J. Harris' was my great grandfather. These pictures were from my family photo file, passed down from my aunts, Rachel Ellen Smith and Martha Mamie (Mayme) Smith.

This family group is shown in the 1910 Floyd County Census, Justice Precinct 1, Supervisor's Dist 13, Enumeration Dist 105, Sheet 4b.

I am searching for help in locating any information about Isaac and Martha Hamilton. Isaac was born Jan 28, 1841 and died Feb 28, 1901. He is buried in Lockney. Martha Ann Carnahan born March 15, 1844 in Arkansas and is also buried in Lockney. They had 10 children, James W or M born 1869, Theatte born 1873, Toby J born 1871, Ella May born 1877, Benjamin M born 1878, Sanford Kirtly born 1880, Hopie C born 1882, Maud born 1883, Lillie P born 1886 and Cora E born 1889. James, Toby and Theatte appear to be either Issac's or Martha's children prior to their marriage. They were married in Cleburne City Johnson County Texas in 1876. In a family bible in Cora's family it states that Isaac's Father was John Hamilton who was born in Kentucky.

The last information I have is a 1900 census in Floyd county with them listed and a 1880 census with Issac, Martha, James, Toby, Ella, Theatte and Benjamin listed.

Am looking for the married name of Maud nee Hamilton. She is listed as being 16 years old and living with her parents (Isaac and Martha Hamilton) on the 1900 Lockney, Floyd Co. census, and according to family legend is buried in Lockney Cemetery with her three young sons. Allegedly, she and the boys all died in 1912.

Prior to a recent trip to San Antonio, I did some reading about the Alamo defenders. I noted that the namesake for Floyd County was born in my home county of Nash in North Carolina. I would like very much to receive any new information on someone who by all accounts was a patriot and quite a scrapper. I've pretty much exhausted the internet. I finally found the birth county of my mother's oldest brother! Her dad worked for the railroads, so they moved quite a bit.

Does anyone know if plain copies are available from the county courthouse? Do they take checks, or only money orders?

Looking for the family of Peyton Eskridge YORK who after being widowed and left with 11 children, married Bertha MURRAY also widowed with about 7 childre of her own. They met on a train, visited, and the courtship was on. They eventually got married ..... but where?? Peyton was listed in the 1920 Wichita County, TX Census living in Electra. I know that the family moved down to Dickens County, TX because 2 of the 3 children born to them were born in Dicken County, TX. The other one was born in Floyd County, TX. Can you look to see if you have any information that will tell me where and when Peyton YORK and Bertha MURRAY got married? Sure would appreciate it!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!!

The Boyter's and Frizzells both came out of Plainview and Lockney, Floyd Co. respectively. I am looking for information that will lead me to the burial site of one Robert Levi (R.L.) BOYTER who died at the Ferguson's house in Plainview, TX of a stroke in January of 1935. Robert's son, Denzil married into the Frizzell family and I would like any information as to Alvin Elco Frizzell's second wife, Ethyl Carpenter Greenway Frizzell is buried. She died in 1979. I believe it to be in Plainview but am not sure.

I am trying to find information on the husband of Cleo Elizabeth Bradley Boyd. She was married to Thomas boyd and dieed in 1971. Thomas re-married, I need to find if his decendts have any records, photos, letters or material from Cleo's family. Family legend is that Thomas' second wife threw it all out but I am praying that someone may have somthing.

Virgel DuBose, 81, of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Tuesday, May 16, 2006 at his home. He was born September 7, 1924 in Floydada, Texas to Abner H. and Inez Mitchell DuBose. Virgel was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. He retired from Southern Pacific Railroad after 37 years of service as a locomotive engineer, and then owned and operated the Whopper Burger in Robstown, Texas for 21 years, and was known as Mr. Whoppers. He was a member of Boundless Love Fellowship Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John Wayne DuBose.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Ruby DuBose of Corpus Christi; his daughters, Sheila (Philip) Beck of Robstown, Velvet (Jay) Fitzgerald and Caressa DuBose all of Corpus Christi; his brother, Wayne (Lynetta) DuBose of Colorado City, Texas; his step-sister, Vickie Knief of Corpus Christi; his grandchildren, John Meador and J.D. Fitzgerald; his great grandchildren, Amalia VanBlarcum and Virgel Jackson DuBose; his nieces, Jerry Peterson and Karen Lane; his nephews, Mark Wittliff and Steve Knief.
Visitation will be from 2 P.M. until 9 P.M. with the family present from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. Thursday, May 18, 2006 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4:30 P.M. Friday, May 19, 2006 in Sawyer-George Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Rick Webb officiating. Burial will follow in Robstown Memorial Park.

I am looking for information or descendents of John William Lloyd, son of Joseph Lloyd and Mary E. Malone. He was born November 2, 1882 in either Collin or Grayson County, Texas. He was living in Harris County, Texas during WWI and was working for the Sun Company in the oilfields. In 1920, he was living in Wichita County, Texas and was also working in the oilfields. He is last found on the 1930 Floyd County, Texas Census where he was farming. His wife was named Myrtle and she was born about 1889 in Texas. They had the following children:

2. Leona b. abt. 1911
3. Margaret b. abt. 1913

John Lloyd may possibly be the brother of my great grandmother and I am very interested in contacting some of his descendents. I would also like to know if this family has any Native American connections, particularly Cherokee. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A son John Anderson Clendennen married a Margaret T. Lambright. John is say to have been buried in the Lockney Cem. in Floyd Co.

Other children were Mary M. "Mellie", Jennie, Henry Lee, Wilmoth Jane, Laura Elizabeth and Ida Mae.

Henry married a Carrie Jane Bidwell, Wilmoth married Tobe Leonard Pittman, Laura Elizabeth married Jake R. Smith, and Ida married Lee Smith.

I am looking for any information on Nannie Bell Harris Gafford. She passed away Sept. 16, 1992 and was buried in Floydada Cemetery. I am in need of her obituary and any other info about her. He was raised in The Waco State Home (orphanage) with 2 brothers and a sister. Nannie also had an older daughter Gloda Faye Morgan. I believe Faye moved to Tacoma Wash. At the time of her death I beleived she lived on Crockett St. I have a copy of the Record of Funeral services, but it does not say what home handeled her services. Seeking information on the Charles S LOWRY family that resided in Floyd Co. from c.1907-1931+.

Charles and Margaret Lowry had 2 children - John A (married Mattie Bryan)and Sarah Elizabeth (married J.A. Grigsby) - when they moved from TN to Texas in 1877. They settled in Bell Co. until 1886, moving to Coryell, Johnson, Swisher, and Martin counties before finally settling in Floyd Co. Both died in 1931 and are buried in the Floydada Cemetery with their grandson, Rufus.

John A and Mattie Lowry had 6 children (Charles H, Rufus O, Roland E, Warren, Alice, and Frances). Sarah E and J.A. Grigsby had 4 known children (Ernest, Albert H, Roy, and Charlie)

Charles H. Lowry (son of John A Lowry) is my late maternal great-grandfather. He and Willie Cherryhomes had 2 children - Hugh Henry and Cornie Ruth (my late grandmother).

Aside from my mother, I have no known living relatives in this branch of my ancestry and would appreciate any contact. Thanks a lot!

Looking for Floyd County, Texas, cousins. This includes descendants of James Henry BRANCH
and Lucinda Clementine POWELL on my mother's side and Joseph Paul LOONEY and Lilly May LITTRELL
on my father's.

James Henry lived alternatively between Leon, Love County, Oklahoma and Illinois Bend, Montague
County, Texas. Clementine died in Leon, Oklahoma in the world-wide flu epidemic of 1918.
I know of at least a few of their descendants who lived in
Floydada including BRANCH, THOMPSON
and ELLIS.

Joseph Paul died in Floydada, Floyd County, Texas in 1975 and Lilly died there in 1969.
Both are buried in the cemetary north on the Silverton Highway..

I am searching for any information on my grandfathers side of the family. His father was William Thomas Messer but went by Bill. He died of a heart attack in 1944 in Lockney Texas. He was married to Anna "Faye" Traylor who later remarried Jon Belt. Also Faye's father lived in Lockney, his name is listed as J W Traylor. Faye and Bill had one son Gene Messer. Faye lived in Lockney until the mid 90's when she moved to a retirement home in Lubbock. I know that Bill ran a service station and sold cars.
