He died in 1886 leaving young children. I am interested in communicating with any of his descendants or anyone who can tell me more about his family. Did Sallie, his wife, remarry? If so, did the children's surnames change? I am especially interested in Henry H. Smith listed on the 1880 census as being 1 year old.

T. W.'s wife's name was Sallie. I would like to know her maiden name.

Thanks to any one who is willing and can assist me.

Each of the ribbons the men are wearing also have 4 letters on them, but the picture isn't big enough to try and figure out from a high-res scan.

My g-g-grandfather was born in 1861, so I'm estimating the time of the picture to be somewhere around 1900.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Fayette County Texas Cemetery Photos

I live in Carmine, Fayette County, Texas which is close to the Washington county line. I have many photos of the following cemeteries or will go there to take photos if anyone needs them.
Carmine Cemetery, La Bahia Cemetery, Richter Cemetery, Burkhardt Cemetery, (there is also, I believe, a Burkhardt-Banik cemetery, and I don't know where that one is) Mayer Cemetery, Florida Chapel Cemetery. These are the ones I already have photos from and know where they are, if there is one not listed, that is in the area, email me - if I can find it I'd be happy to!
The photos will be digital and sent by email only.
I am researching Dornhoefer & Ullrich's from Fayette county, but this has led me into a list of families, including Wunderlich, Jaeger, Bergmann, Burkhardt, Spies, Menn, just to name a few.
I love to talk about it too, so email me if you have any information or questions about anything related!

Hello. This church was organized in 1858. Forgive me if I don;t have the name excatley correct. I'm pretty sure it was named as shown in the "subject" field. I know that the Faison family donated money so the church could be built. Eventually the Faison family sold the land for 1.00 so the former slaves could own the land that the church sat on.

I would love to share any information I have and I would love to learn new information. Please contact me.

Yours,

Tonya

I am looking for the parents of Lurana Fidelia Hudson (1840-1944), widow of John Prentiss Cunningham. She is shown on the 1860 census of Fayette County as L F Cunningham. She later married James Clayton Stribling in Fayette County and they moved to Blanco County. I am guessing that the 22-year-old William Hudson who is in her household in 1860 is her brother.

The three children are living with their father, Frank Simecek, grandfather Jim Simecek, and a cook, Agnes Bohac in 1900 in Flatonia, Fayette Co. Tx. Frank apparently arrived in Texas around 1881 and Jim, his father arrived around 1883. I would appreciate any infor or leads.

November 23, 1865 in Fayette County, TX).

We have not been able to find the family ANYWHERE in an 1870 census nor have we found her in an 1880 census ANYWHERE.

It is posted on line at Ancestry.com that they had a daughter Margaret "Maggie" Fisher b. Sept 28, 1866 in Fayette County. We would like to document this child and any other children as being theirs, if possible.

Also, can anyone DOCUMENT Amanda's date of death and where she died?
Hosey Hammon(d,ds)/Harmon/Herman and Margaret Cunningham

I am researching my grandfather’s ancestry and need some help with lookups. My apologies for the background here, but this is needed for the lookups.

Hosea/Hosey Harmon/Hermann/Hammond (my GG grandfather) lived in Fayette County beginning in 1870 and married Margaret Cunningham in Lavaca County in 1867.

The family is found in the 1870 (11 Oct) Fayette Census with “Hosey Hermann” as head of household living between Halletsville Road and Buckner Creek, Pin Oak post office, Page #47.

The family six known children, possibly 7 (Nancy?, Sally, Mary, Betty, Thaddeus and John Robert).

Both Hosey and Margaret died when my GGGrandfather, John Robert Hammonds was less than 6 months old.

By 1880, all of the family’s children are split up between three of Margaret Cunningham’s siblings…

1880 Census (9 July 1880) Fayette County, Precinct 5, District 61, Page 51 (the next four on the same census page, 2 households)

Sally b. 1873 living with Obed R. Cunningham and wife Mary (relationship, “Niece”)

Mary b. 1878 living with Obed R. Cunningham and wife Mary (relationship, “Niece”)

Betty b. 1870 living with Frank Cunningham and wife Emily (relationship, “Niece”)

Thaddeus b. 1877 living with Frank Cunningham and wife Emily (relationship, “Nephew”)

1880 Census (2 Jun 1880) Bastrop County, Jeddo, ED 10, Page 2.

John Robert (just six months old then) b. Nov 1879 living in Bastrop County with John G. Dunkin and wife Nancy R (Nancy Ruth Cunningham), (relationship, “Nephew”)

Family lore has it that Hosey Hammond left home and never came back though his horse returned (obviously after March 1878 since his youngest was born in November that year). Margaret died shortly within about 6 months after John Robert was born, that she was holding him in the doorway and suddenly died.

With a family of five children left parentless, I was hoping that some newspapers back then might have covered the story. I am also hoping to find a cemetery record for Margaret Cunningham in Fayette County.

Would like to know the cause of death for both, the real name, was in Harmon, Herman(n), Hammon(d,ds)?

I request these lookups:

- Cemetery records for Margaret Cunningham and/or Hosea Harmon/Hermann/Hammon(d,ds)

- Research of newspaper articles between Feb 1878-1879 for both Hosey’s disappearance (approx. March 1878-Jun 1880) and the death of Margaret Cunningham (bet. Nov 1879 and June 1880).

- Vital statistics / death records for Margaret Cunningham (bet. Nov 1879 and June 1880)

- Probate records for Hammon(d,ds), Harmon, Hermann in 1879-1881???

- Guardianship records for the children, between November 1879 and June 1880.

Note: both Thaddeus and John Robert went by “Hammond and Hammonds”, respectively. I am almost certain that the name was misconstrued after the death of both of the parents. Their marriage record from Lavaca County showed “Hosa Harmon”; the 1860 Fayette Census shows him as “Hosey Hermann”. I request that the research include those name derivatives.

I’ve included below the outline tree for Hosey and Margaret; and for Margaret’s parents, showing her siblings.

I sincerely appreciate any information that can be provided to help solve this mystery, once and for all!

Thanks, Mayme Kittman

Descendants of Hosey Hermann

1 Hosey Hermann b: 1848 in Georgia

.. +Margaret E.

I have just started researching my family ancestry on my father's side. His mother is Ruby Leola Dean Person. While going through some of her sister's papers after her death (Edna Person Vaden), she had received an invitation from the Fayette County Sesquicentennial Committe to come to the celebration ot recognize the historic and heroic contributions of the Dawson and Mier Expeditions. This is my question. After going through alot of names on the internet, I have not been able to find a Person that was involved with these Expeditions. There is a story in the family that a McDonald side (my grandmothers mother) drew a white bean. How do I find out why she was invited and what was the man's name that she was being invited because of?

Please forgive me for bieng long-winded but I cannot find any information.

Thanks in advance.

Gina Thompson

Seeking information on the pars and/or sibs of Mary E. Bogart/Bogard who married John T. Shannon in Fayette Co 6 Oct 1865. J. T. Shannon had been discharged from CSA in Galveston in May 1865. His family was in Live Oak Co TX, but he either couldn't get home, or chose to stop in Fayette Co. He farmed for a while after their marriage around Cistern, before moving on to Lampasas County and finally Mills County TX.

I have descendants of John T. and Mary E. Shannon, and I have John T's up-line for several generations. I have their Bible. It has been speculated that Mary's father may have been named John and her mother may have been named Elizabeth, but I am not sure and have no documentation for that.

I will be happy to share anything and everything I have on this family.

John Vanek m. Agnes Branecky, 1901

According to the good folks at Fayette Heritage and Museum Archives, Fayette County marriage records states that Jan Vanek married Agnes Branecky on 10 Sept 1901. This is probably John (Jan) Vanek, the son of Jan (John) Vanek and Veronika Kulak.

The book Country Cousins by Millie Jean Pechacek Welch has Agnes Branecky married to John Vanek. No more information about John Vanek is given. They had one male child Julius Joseph Vanek born 14 March 1904. Agnes is the 11th and final child of Frantisek Branecky and Maria Anna Hajek. Born 6 Aug 1876, she is christened 8 Aug 1876, godparents being Henry and Anna Grieve. No death date is given for Agnes or John.

The 1990 Fayette County census includes

Branecky, Frank, head Dec 1820 79 M 44 Bohemia
Mary, wife Sept 1835 64 M 44 10 – 10 Bohemia
Frank, son Feb 1870 30 S Texas
William, son Feb 1878 22 S Texas
Agnes, dau Aug 1880 19 S Texas

I have been unable to find John and Agnes Vanek in any census, 1910, 1920, or 1930. I can find no death date for either, or anything on a Julius Joseph Vanek born in 1904. As I mentioned in an earlier posting, John reported lived in (or near) San Antonio and did not return often for visits with his family. His brother Ludwig Vanek and family did go to visit him there at least once. His land supposedly included a large orchard. He reportedly had a son named Tommie, as did his brother Louis J. Vanek.

Any information about any of this family would be greatly
appreciated.

Thanks,

Joe David
I would like to locate the descendants of Ed Y. Keen. I dont' remember right now if he was a survivor of the Dawson Massacre or the Mier Expedition, but he was a prisoner at Molena Del Rey, Mexico. I have two transcribed letters from Ed. Y. Keen(called himself Wild Ed) one dated 7-20-1842 and the other undated. These were mailed to Henry Gonzalvo Woods. My Gr Gr Grandfather, Norman B. Woods was a prisoner at Perote Prison but later died. Ed Keen was a young man and implored Gonzalvo Woods to kiss the girls and not let them marry until he could get there. La Grange and and Pullet Prairie are mentioned as well as the names of A.W. Faires, Newton Scallorn, Sarah Scallorn, James Heson, William Robinson, Jackson Smith, Aunt Betsy Reams, and old Aunt Spear. If anyone recognizes these names, please contact me. I would like to mail copies of these letters to Ed Keen's descendants. The originals are in the archives at Austin. My e mail address is mbmjlm22@aol.com

Alice Minor Thornton Brown DOB 1882. DOD estimated during years 1921-1930.

Seeking information on Alice Brown, DOB 1882 probably in Fayette County, TX.
She was my grandmother’s older half-sister.
Name is given on the 1920 Federal census as Alice, but my aunts insist it was not that, and in fact on the census record itself it looks like something else (although it begins with an "A" and was transcribed as Alice).

The 1920 census lists her as Alice Thornton, widowed, living in Davilla, Milam county.
Children Era, Louis, Vittoria, Charlie, and Lucy.
We do not know her husband’s first name.

We believe her last child was Charles Alfred Brown, born in Burleson County on 11/18/1921.
Again, we do not know her husband’s first name or where she was buried.

We think she died between 1921 and 1930.
In 1930 her son was listed as living with his grandmother, Hattie Johnson, on the Milam census.
The Thornton girls lived with my grandmother, Ella Minor Hughes, and her family in Milam County.

I did find an Alice Brown listed in the Burleson county probate records between 1911 and 1922, but do not know if that is the same person.

Any help would be appreciated.

Searching for info on the William Kuenstlers, his wife Wilhelmine Muecke. Her father and grandfather were Johann Heinrich Muecke who lived on a farm in Flatonia on the Old Hallettsville Rd. Believe the dates were middle to late 1800's. Both families were from Brandenburg, Germany (Prussia) who came over around 1851-1852. Does anyone know any information about this family? William Kuenstler is buried in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Yoakum, Texas.

African Americans in Fayette

This is my 1st venture in Afr-Am genealogy. I am researching the family of my cousin-in-law out in California who turns out to have roots in near-by Fayette Co. Do we have any experienced researchers who can give advise or who may have family links. So far, in Fayette I have William Banks b. 1838, VA wife Louise (Robison/Roberson I think) b. 1861 Tx. I believe her father to be Dick (or Dig) and Adline Robison/Roberson of Fayette Co. I have William and Louise's children as
Walter 1887
Marinda 1889 m a Cole but back home in 1910
Paul 1891
William 1893 grandfather to my cousin's husband
George 1895
Rosetta 1898
Seth 1901.
I am guessing that both Dick Robison and William Banks were freed slaves. Do we have any Fayette records for the Freedman's Bureau? or any other documents, slaveholders papers that could assist in back tracking further? Also are any of the black cemeteries in the county enumerated?
I am also hunting associated families in Anderson County Patterson, Asberry, Quesenbury. All help appreciated.

They reportedly lived in the Novohrad community in north Lavaca County just south of the Fayette County line and attended church in Praha. Their oldest son was John Vanek, born Feb of 1880 according to1880 census in Lavaca County and 1900 census in Fayette County. It was taken by Petersen's Photograph Gallery in LaGrange, Fayette Co. TX. It is identified on the back. This man is sitting in a coat, vest, watch fob and bow tie. It is in fair condition. I rescue old photos and try to return them to their families. A trial was evidently held in Houston. Can anyone tell me any more about this, perhaps from their own family stories? Some of the names of the people involved include Walter Drawe, William Kurz, Herman Langlotz, W.C. Langlotz, Frank Mazel, Charles Meitzen, Ernest Pagel, F.J. Piwetz, O. A. Vetter, and Joseph Zdaril.
