I am trying to date a photograph by Will S. Thompson Photographer, North Side of Square, Bonham, Texas. Do you know his years of business? It would have been around 1900. Thanks.

History of Fannin County, Texas, by W. A. Carter, 1885, says Will S. Thompson "cast his lot with the people of Fannin County in July 1885, having just married one of Illinois' daughters to share his fortunes in the south-west."

Were you able to date your photo? I too have a photo by Will S. Thompson on North Side Square.

Information from the book Catching Shadows, A Directory of 19th Century Texas Photographers, by David Haynes indicates William S. Thompson was working in Bonham from 1890 to 1892, and 1896 to 1897. James R. Thompson was also listed as working in Bonham near this time and might be a relation. The author gathered information from various sources, but this does not mean all available sources for each photographer was available or located.
