Thanks.

I checked "Eastland Cemeteries" Vol 1-3
no Weaver Cemetery was listed
Your Christopher Columbus was not listed amng the Konnce's buried in the County-

The books were from 1972 so if he died after that he would not have been listed.

The Sons of Confederate Veterans website lists Christopher C Koonce born 1833 as being buried in Weaver Cemetery in Shelby Co., TX. I live near this cemetery and know he doesn't have a marked grave in that cemetery.

Additional checking showed he was buried in Weaver Cemetery, Gorman, Eastland Co., TX. Having found that information I posted my request.

Additional checking didn't turn up a Weaver Cemetery in Eastland Co. but there is a Weaver Cemetery in Comanche Co. Very near Gorman. I have now posted my request to their message board as I have been unable to find an online listing for the cemetery. Severasl sites name it but don't have a listing for it. One site showed they had a listing but the link was bad.

Thanks for the time you spent. I'm sorry I didn't include his year of birth.

"Shelby County, TX in the Civil War" compiled by Katheryn Hooper Davis & Carolyn Reeves Ericson provides the following, which I'll accept as the answer to my question.

Koonce, Christopher C.
Born: 30 May 1833 Claiborne Parish, LA
Died: 24 March 1915 Gorman, TX
Buried: Weaver Cemetery, Gorman, TX
Spouse: Louisa A. Chandler, m. 23 December 1858 Nacogdoches Co., TX
Service: Co. K, Texas Volunteer Infantry. Enlisted 13 February 1862 at Rusk, TX, later in Co. A, 11th Regiment Texas Infantry.
Pension: Received small pension and 1280 acres of land in Comanche Co., TX
Parents: James Carol & Susan (Johnson) Koonce
Comments: One of his legs was shot off below the knee during the War. Confederate Land Grant in Comanche Co. #313 issued 12 August 1881.

Although the above location of the cemetery is given as Gorman "Roads of Texas" and USGS GNIS show it to be located in Comanche Co. on the Gorman Topo map. Latitude 320931N Longitude 0983952W

Surnames: Koonce
Weaver Cemetery is practically on the county line of Comanche and Eastland counties. It is in the country several miles off the highway.

There is a C. Koonce buried there. Born: May 30, 1833 Died: March 24, 1915. There are also the following Koonces buried there: Carroll Deuain, John C., Ludia G., Joseph Bailey, Lorry Danton, and L. A. (wife of C. Koonce)

Source: Comanche County Gravestone Inscriptions, Vol 2
Compiled by Margaret Waring and Samuel J. C. Waring
1977

There are people with the last name of Koonce who live in several nearby towns of Desdemona and DeLeon. I hope this helps.
