Have you tried familysearch.org? Click on Search Records and select Pilot search. It is a wonderful source and there are some entries in Canada just not sure if that will help you.

Sorry I have no information on your family. I just wanted to tell you I am having the same problem with my great grandfather who was born in Benavides, Duval County. I tried calling Austin to see if his records were there, but they didn't have any record of him. It's very frustrating.

I am looking for relatives and/or descendants of David Garcia and Andrea Gutierrez, or of Eugenio Gutierrez and Maria Nicolasa Garcia de Gutierrez to share information. In particular, I am looking for pictures, or copies of same, of any of the above-mentioned and their descendants. David and Andrea were my grandparents, and Eugenio and Nicolasa my G-grandparents. My uncles Jose Garcia and Lino Garcia were born and died in San Diego. I have not visited my Garcia or Gutierrez relatives in San Diego since I was a child and I would like to know if there is still family left there that I could visit and share information.

for Anestacio Canales' death. He could be the one that died in 1942 in Robstown,Tx. For obituary you could check the Caller.com website. I did find Librada had only been in Realitos for 1 month when she died. Her family was the Juan Gutierrez and Antonia Chapa family who was originally from Guerrero, Tamaulipas before settling in South Texas. There is a Juan Canales, Sr. that died in 1960 in Tienditas that lists Anestacio Canales and Librada Gutierrez as parents with Servando Canales as informant.

Try the pilot website; it is great. If you click on the black square to the left of the name, you can actually see the death record or census record.

Another good source for this family is Jerry, Sr. that runs Jerry's Diner in San Diego. He ties in to the Cantu/Gutierrez family which is where Librada Gutierrez decends from. Good luck.

Brick wall- Canales-I have Anastacio Canales, b. 1849 registered in Mier Mex..- immig/naturalized in 1877 to TX. He married Librada Guiterrez in Duval county Dec.15, 1877. I have their household: Samuel 1889, Placido 1895, Alfredo 1891, Leopoldo 1895, Jesus or Jesusa 1898, Csau? 1899, Antonio 1902, Casemido 1904, Jose 1907, Eliza 1897, Glessria 1885. all born in TX. Helped raise Hinojosa relatives. Also listed on census- Lazaro, Eloisa, Celistino, Fransisca, Ferman.

I have Librada’s death cert, info: place of death is Tienditas Rch, Texas prect. #6 Realtos in Duval county. Place of burial is Tienditas Rch Tx. In 1941. He is not buried in her cemetery or at least there is no stone. Other local Realitos cemeteries have been searched by foot. No luck. She was a midwife. Her parents are: Juan Gutierrez and Antonia Maria Chapa. They are in the 1880, 1910, 1920 Tx census. Possible cemetery for Anastacio is Clovis Cemetery.

Anastacio was a farmer. Hired son Placido to work in 1914. Anastacio possible death is 1924?. He is not in the Seaburry papers. Not in ancestry.com parish database. Not found yet in Mier church baptisms. No land grants. Was a residence Realitos Tx.

World War II soldoers from Texas in Canadian Forces

I am looking for information on Americans from Texas that traveled to Windsor, Canada to enlist in Essex Scottish of the the Canadian Forces in 1940/41. My grandfather, Fred McLean, came from Duval County, Texas. He traveled north to Canada in early/mid 1941. He was killed a year later in France leaving his Canadian family with no contact with his family in Texas. There are no records of his existance in Texas. I am trying to find any information on others who traveled the same path that might have known him.

I'm looking for information regarding my grandfather, Fred McLean, born 1916 in Duval County Texas. He left Texas in 1941 for Canada to enlist in the Canadian forces and was killed in France in 1942. He said he was from Benavides, Duval County Texas, and worked as a photographer and ranch hand. His father was Pete McLean and mother named Yvonne. He had a brother named Thomas McLean who was killed in Mexico. There is no record of any of these people anywhere. Does anyone know of a good source of informaion for Benavides for the 1930's'40's? I have long lost family in Duval County Texas somewhere. I would like to find them.

GLOVER, county & district clerk for Duval County, served as a deputy US Marshal attempting to combat the Garza revolutionaries during the Garza Troubles. He was killed on 31 Jan 1892 near Benadives. I am searching for any surviving family and his place of burial.

I noticed your posts include Marion. My ggrandfather Marion Burchett apparently was named for his ggrandmother's family's name. Jane Marion (married to John Burchett) was daughterof Samuel Marion Revolutionary Soldier. Also I noticed your looking up Clark's. Your Robert Clark belonged to the Thompson Settlement Baptist Church and in the Robert Clark Cemetery I believe Samuel Marion is buried.The mother of Sterling Burchett was Lavina Clark. Question on
if her mother's maiden name was Weaver, still trying to piece
that together. The Vandeventer's were relatives by marriage to our Burchetts from Lone Branch (Lee County Va) I have alot of info through cousins from that area as well as books from Lee County, Va. I will have to dig for the child of
Sterling to see if he is Dewitt Sterling Burchett. He was

The SSDI gives his birth as: 26 Jun 1919

His death was recorded in Jim Wells County, Texas (not Duval County). This suggests that he did not die in Benavides at the place of the shooting, but perhaps in a hospital or en route to a hospital? Or perhaps just filed in Jim Wells County?

He appears in the 1920 US Census at the age of 7/12 (7 months).

All children born in Texas:

Maria G. Recio

GROVES - Maria G. Recio, 92, of Groves, Texas passed away at her home on Wednesday, June 14, 2006. She was born on June 24, 1913 in San Diego, Texas. She came to Port Arthur in 1943 and has lived in the area since. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leopoldo Recio.

A gathering of friends and family will be on Friday evening from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Clayton Thompson. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Saturday, June 17, 2006 at Clayton Thompson with her son, Leo Recio, Officiating. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

She is survived by her six children, Mary Hernandez Weatherford of Port Arthur, Jane Garcia of Groves, Hector Recio of Groves, Estella Castro of Port Arthur, Irma Hope Perez of Port Arthur, Leo Recio of Columbus, Ohio and 16 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren and her special friend, Joe Escabedo of Port Arthur, Texas.

Start tracing Mario and Leopoldo's ancestors by talking to their children. Ask if any of them remember their grandparents names on both the RECIO and GARZA sides. Confirm where each of their children were born (Texas Death Index suggests that there were 6 children (not 5) and that there were 2 sons named Hector? Youngest was born in Jefferson County, 4 born in Duval, and 1 in Hidalgo.

Leopoldo RECIO Sr. died on 26 Jul 1996 in Jefferson County, Texas. Try obtaining a copy of his death certificate to see if it includes the names of his parents, his birthdate and place of birth.

Once you have birth dates and the names of parents for Leopoldo Sr. and Maria (Garza) RECIO, you can begin searching other sources such as census records.

It is also helpful if you can identify the names of any of Leopoldo Sr's and Maria's brothers and sisters (these would be your grandaunts and granduncles or their children's aunts and uncles.

When you interview their children, be sure to write down every detail that they mention. Ask questions like where did they live, who were their neighbors, what occupations did they have, for males especially were they in the military (if so, what branch of the military and if they served what War, etc.)

Thanks, I am trying to locate some relatives of his that still might be alive. Because it appears that he was killed in the line of duty, I'm trying to get enough info to have his name placed on the Peace Officer Memorials in Austin and Washington DC. He was shot at a bar/cafe in Benvades, but died several days later in a hospital in Jim Wells County. Again, thanks for the assistance......

I am looking for any information on Oscar Briones. He was Duval County Deputy Sheriff who was shot and killed on February 28, 1949 while making an arrest in a Benavides Bar. His fathers name was Francisco Briones and his mother was listed as Petra V. Briones. The information for the Death Certificate was provided by Ramiro Briones. He is supposed to be burried in the Benavides Cemetery.According to the newspaper articles, Louis Garza was attested and charged with his murder.

I would like more info and you just reminded me of Cristobal's first name.I knew some of his Daughter's.I understand Aurora (Cantu) by marriage lives in Benavides she has a son there also.She is not too well mentally.She also has a sister in Laredo in a nursing home there.Her first name is Maria but I don't know her married name.I believe that my grandmother was somehow related to them.I wish I could tell you more.The other sister Hortencia is Gonzalez by Marriage and lives in Alice Tx.One of my grandmother's parents was Ochoa but I don't which one .Her name was Aniceta Gonzales Munguia.

are you related to him?Had a brother in Benavides who died a few years ago.Luis Garza is also gone.There are a lot of the younger Briones in Benavides that can give you more info.

This Deodato is older than the one I was talking about.May be by about 10 years.This person has his sister also known as Candula living in Benavides tx.She has a daughter named Leonor de los Santos that lives in Benavides.

The Pedro Sendejo that I knew was married to Lucinda Rodriguez Sendejo from Salas Ranch.He was a Deputy Sheriff for Duval County was killed in the line of duty in 1961.Tis may be the same Sendejos and still live in San Diego,TX.

Alamo Tx is considered in the Rio Grande Valley and is near San Juan Tx.It is known as Pharr,San Juan Alamo.I have seen other people mention Bess and The Bess Cementary as in the valley.

I come from Benavides Tx Duval co.There were two or three different Ruiz families there.His family probably lived near the school.THey moved to San antonio.He had a sister names Dora and one named Delia.There was another one ,but I don't remember her name.He had relatives in Alice also.

Yes, it is the same family. His widow and some of his children still live in San Diego.

Hello while my last name is gonzalez> I am related to the Briones from san diego. I am 37 years old and i dont know of any past relatives that might have past. But if you are familiar with san diego on the last road to the right as you are going out of town 2 blocks down is where the majority of the briones live at. I am pretty sure they might help you out. with the name of Fransico Briones i am about 100% positive they are related.I wish i had a number to send you but i dont.

I am looking for a daughter of Eusebio and Juana FLORES that I think may be the Paula you mention married to Teodoro SENDEJO. Juana remarried a Hinojosa and was in Bess from before 1898 to after 1917. Do you have any other information on Paula?
