I am looking for information on Simmie Adeline Eldridge who married Andrew Jackson McClain in 1876. They lived near Spur and are both buried in the Red Mud Cemetery.

I have several obits but I don't find one for Adeline or Andrew but I do find one for Walter F. Lewis father of Mrs J. A. McClain of Rotan Buried at Red Mud Cemetery.
Don't know if there is a connection or not but here it is.

Father of Mrs. McClain Dies in Burnet

Walter F. Lewis, 89, father of Mrs. J. A. McClain of Rotan died Wednesday at Burnet. Funeral services will be held Friday, 2 p.m. from Weathersbee Chapel with Rev. Bill Hale offficiating. Burial wil be in Red Mud Cemetery near Spur, under direction of Weathersbee Funeral Home, who brought the body to Rotan by funeral coach.
Mr. Lewis was born Oct 20, 1872 at Clarksville, Tenn. He came to San Saba in 1902, moving to Kent county in 1904 and to Rotan in 1950. He was married to Miss Addie Fuqua, Dec 23, 1908 in Kent county. She preceded him in death in 1946. He had been a member of the Methodist Church 79 years.
Survivors include, 3 daughters, Mrs. McClain, Rotan; Mrs Clark Howell, Abilene; Mrs. Charlie Rhea of Burnett; 11 grandchildren and one brother, Wesley Lewis of Amarillo

Simmie A ELDRIDGE b. 1, Apr. 1859 in Tennessee d. 24, Sept. 1926. She married Andrew Jackson MCCLAIN b. 20, Mar. 1844 in Tennessee. d. 16, June 1922 in Spur, Texas. They were married 1876. He was also known as Judge A.J. McClain as he was a circuit judge in the area. I only have one child Edna Mae MCCLAIN b. 1881 d. 1965 in Spur, Texas. I have Edna married to Mathew Macy HOWELL b 1872 in Kentucky d. 1952 in Spur, Texas. Edna and Mathew were my husbands grandparents.

Andrew and Simmie McClain had 8 children: Faustina, Edna, Flora (my grandmother), Andrew Eldridge, Lura, Alexander, Charles, and Porter. If you want more information on them, please contact me. If your husband knows anyone who could help me find Simmie Adeline Eldridge McClain's parents, I would really appreciate the help.

I don't know If this helps or not, but there was an Eldridge McClain that lived about 15 miles SW of Spur, just over the Kent County line. I knew 2 of his son's Glynn and Harold.The first Dickens County Judge was a McClain, and was judge until they surveyed the county and saw that he didn't live in Dickens County, but over the line in Kent County. I can't remember If this was Glynn's Dad, or his Grandfather. The dugout that the McClains lived in is still very much visible, as it was cut out of a bluff about 1 mile west of the start of Turkey Draw. I knew of Porter McClain and Charley, but I didn't know them. I knew Glynn better than any of them. Glynn had 2 son's and a daughter. One son died as a kid and I don't know where the other one is. The daughter is in Columbus,Ohio the last I heard.

Hi. Hope you are still out there! My great grandmother was Lurah B. Mcclain Rhodes. Some spellings show up Lura.
Her father was Judge Andrew Jackson Mcclain who was married to Simmie Adaline Eldridge Mcclain. Both are buried in the Red Mud Cmtry in Spur Texas. I just started this process but have not been able to find anything else on either.

the first county judge for Dickens county.
Laurah B. McClain Rhodes is Edna May's sister. Simmie

TX-Dickens County They are buried at Red Mud where I have
a family plot with the Greer family. My mother has a copy
of Simmie McClain papers that distributed her estate. My
mother said she got a check . Around $200.00 more or less
from her estate . Next of Kin. Don't know much about Simmie's parents .
