I am searching for information on brothers James A. and William A. Neighbors. I am trying to find out if they are the sons of Albert
Neighbors and Sarah
Autrey Neighbors.
I have the obituary for W.A. Neighbors from The
Texas Spur dated July 31, 1914. It says that W.A. Neighbors, a "prominent citizen of the Steel Hill community" had died at the home of his brother, J.A. Neighbors. The reference to the services being held at the Church of
Christ gave me the clue that these were my great-grandfather James A. and his brother, since James was an elder in the Church of
Christ at one time. W.A. Neighbors is buried in Spur Cemetery.
I am not sure when my James A. Neighbors moved to west
Texas, but I think it was some time in the 1890's. My mother, his granddaughter, says that Jim
Neighbors and his second wife (his first wife died 6 weeks after they were married), DuRetta
Bee "
Retta" Lewis
Neighbors, bought land at Spur, then later sold it and bought a section of land 4 miles south of Crosbyton and raised cotton and grains. They also had rent property in Crosbyton, but fell on hard times and had to sell it. The family eventually moved to
Parker Co, TX in the 1930's, where Jim
Neighbors died in 1938.
There are about 11 or 12 children listed on the Union
Parish LA and
Bowie Co TX censuses, so I hope that some of you
Neighbors researchers who are the descendents of Albert
Neighbors and Sarah
Autrey Neighbors can help me figure out if their children listed as Wm.A. and James A. are my ancestors.
And I hope that some of you in
Dickens County can give me any information on James A. and William A. Neighbors or suggestions as to how/where to search for information.
I am not listed on any mailing lists, so please reply to this message board or directly to my e-mail.
Thank you for your help!
