Surnames: Peyton, Payton, Higgins, Ramsower
Peter's Colony records give only this information;
Jonathan C. Peyton-Samuel is not listed.
Jonathan ran a tavern with his wife (unnamed), in the town of San Felipe.
that is all that is given.
Jonathan's wife was Elizabeth Higgins. they came from Cape Girardeau Co., MO.

for all I've searched in the past decade, I cannot find him or his children any later than 1855.

The State of Texas.} TO ALL WHOM IT MAY CONCERN;
County of Denton }
Be It Known, That, on the 5th day of November A. D. 1851, came Samuel PAYTON and claimed six hundred and forty acres of land as a settler in the colony granted to Peters and others, and took and subscribed the following oath, viz:
I, Samuel PAYTON
do solemnly swear that I emigtated to Texas, and entered the Colony which was granted to Peters and others, as a Colonist, prior to July 1848 as a widower, and afterward in the year 1848 brought my family consisiting of one son under 17 years of age, and three daughters unmarried
and that I have since continued and remain a settler in said Colony, and have performed all the duties required of me as a good citizen, and that I have never heretofor received land from the Government of Coahuila and Texas, nor of the Republic or State of Texas, as an emigrant or Colonist. So help me God.

Be it further Known. the facts set forth in the foregoing affidavit are fully corroborated by testimony given on oath by the persons who hereunto sign their names.

Philemon was a brother of Elizabeth.
what happened to Samuel and his family? the three daughters are only known by their initials, M., C. E. and L. E., the son is Perry, but he is not the Perry Peyton who shows up in later Texas census, as my Peyton's were white.
where are the Peyton's buried, and is there record of their burial?
