Classification: Query
Surnames: McCollum / Richardson / Hancock
Hello,

I am a McCollum who has recently tested his DNA and found an identical match with a Richardson! I am looking for any possible connections between both McCollum (spelling does not matter, ex. McCallum/McCullum etc.) and Richardson men and/or women. My McCollum line came from NC to Giles/Lincoln/Marshall Co., TN to Delta Co., TX. The Richardson line that I match with migrated from VA to GA to Delta Co., TX.

There is a crucial time period during the 1890s-1910s when my McCollum line, my matching Richardson line and a related Hancock family line all were living in Delta Co., TX. Most of the McCollums were living in or around Pecan Gap. One of the Richardson family lines moved from Delta County to Morris County (Rocky Branch) which draws some suspicion. Here are some names and dates for both lines:

McCollum line:
Barnabas McCollum [b. 1800-1801, NC; d. 1862, TN]
Barnabas married Mary Arnold
Lucius* Warren McCollum [b. 1832, TN; d. 1910-1920, TX]
Lucius married Martha Lenora Holden
Albert Sidney McCollum [b. 1867, TN/TX; d. 1932, TX]
Albert married Indiana Eliza Phillips
William Lushion McCollum, Sr. [b. 1894, TX; d. 1961, CA]
William married [1]Eula Mae Garrett, [2]Sylva Marie George
*Lucius' cousin (Martin Barney McCollum) married Fannie Hancock and Fannie's sister (Sallie Hancock) married James Spivey Richardson (see below).

Richardson line:
John Richardson [b. 1760; d. 1816]
John married Elizabeth Tate
Allen Richardson [b. 1787, VA; d. 1872, GA]
Allen married Sally Olive
Thomas Allen Richardson [b. 1834, GA; d. 1872, GA]
Thomas married Mary Frances Spivey
James Spivey Richardson, M.D. [b. 1861, GA; d. 1916, TX]
James married Sallie Hancock
Frank Woodward Richardson [b. 1906, TX; d. 1979, TX]
Frank married Anna L. Rogers

The most likely place for a non-paternal event (NPE) to have taken place, as far as we can tell, is Delta County, TX. I would appreciate any tips or leads you might be able to share regarding any of the individuals mentioned above.

Thank You,
Mike

This is a most interesting post to Delta County. Census and tax rolls may be useful in geographical location of the Richardson / McCollum families. Assuming the NPE occurred amongst neighbors.
I am traveling, but when I return, it would be an interesting family study to assist with.
