Samuel Americus McGinty

My Great grandfather Samuel Americus McGinty gave Ozona as his mailing address on his Civil War application for pension on May 1, 1911. He served in David Terry's Regiment for three years during the war. He also stated on his application that his occupation was Blacksmith and that he had lived in Crockett County for seven years which means he moved there in about 1904. I have an original business card of his dated 1914 in Ozona, Texas and it states that he is a bit & saddle maker. He was supposed to make great spurs as well. In 1916 we know that he passed away at age 71 in his daughter's home in Mertzon, Texas.

I have a copy of OZONA, a light brown cover with a windmill on the front, which is a very interesting book. However I can find no mention of S.A. McGinty.

Please help if you can.
Sincerly,
Dorman McGinty
dorman454@aol.com

His wife was Julia E. Montgomery and we heard that she was possibly buried in an unmarked grave in Sonora, Texas.

One of their sons, Thomas Jefferson McGinty, was a stagecoach driver somewhere in that part of Texas.

I am looking for information on Joseph Moss and Porter Kimball families in Crockett County in the 1870's and 80's. I know that Joseph Moss dug a well there and helped start the town. Does anyone know where his father John L. Moss is buried? Would also like any info on Porter Kimball who is on the tax roll there for one year in the 1870's. Thanks

My grandmother born Aurora Tobar, was Aurora Landin and my grandfather was Andres Aguirre. My grandfather Andres owned a small grocery store in Ozona, Texas in the 1940's and 1950's. My grandmother and grandfather married in their teens but were divorced sometime in the late 1930's or early 1940's. There were so many of my relatives on my mother's side living in Ozona, Texas. My grandfather remarried and my grandmother moved to Corpus Christi, Texas and later married Roman Landin. My grandfather Andres had an automobile accident and passed away in 1974. My grandmother Aurora passed away in early 1976 and is buried in Colton, California.

My father was David G. Herrera and my mother was Carolina Aguirre Herrera. My mother passed away in August 1976 and my father passed away in May 1991. They are both buried in Rowland Heights, California.

Some of my cousins may still live in Ozona, Texas i.e., the Vargases, Aguirres, Tobars. Fifty years ago things were a lot different than they are now (10-23-99). I remember people there in the mid 1950's, everyone knew everyone in their neighborhood and many were close for at least two generations because they were related. I wonder what happened to cousins my age when the old folks have passed away. God bless everyone.

In 1881 my ggf Charles Henry Pratt graduated from college in Massachusetts and decided that he did not want to inherit the family farm. He signed away his right to inheritance for $5000 and, according to my gf, chose to join his Wilkins cousins in running a cattle ranch near the town of Rio Pecos on the Pecos River, which was shown on state maps until about 10 years ago at the NW corner of Crockett County. Supposedly he worked at the ranch for about four years. I am looking for documentation of his existence at this ranch. I have a copy of the document renouncing his right to his inheritance, which was signed at Judge Roy Bean's office.

Hello, I am trying to locate my great grandmother, Mary Jane GILLEY. I have very little info on her but I know she owned a "roundhouse" around 1885. At some time after 1885-1889 she married John Kelly STINSON (STENSON). If anyone has any knowledge of the STINSON or GILLEY line, please contact me. I did find her purchasing property from the Gulf, Colorado & Santa Fe railway co. in 1882.
Thanks,
Carolyn

Ybarra-Sanchez-Andrada-Flores Family Tree

I'm continuing research on my family tree and am interested to know if anyone else would like info on the listed family tree names.
My great-great grandparents were Damian YBARRA and Prisiliana ANDRADA and they lived in Brackettville and Ozona. They had children, my great grandfather Baltazar, Ysidro, Ustacia, and Margarita, who were raised by an uncle by the last name of SANCHEZ and they took on his last name. My great grandparents were Baltazar (Walter) YBARRA SANCHEZ and Margarita FLORES. Baltazar was a triplet and they were named after the 3 wise men, (Gaspar and Melchor died either at childbirth or as children) They in turn had children,my grandmother Cornelia, Jacinta, Tiofilo, Julio, Margarita, Denis and Juliana (all SANCHEZ). They migrated to Alpine, Fort Stockton and Odessa Texas. From there the SANCHEZ family grew.
If you would like any information or have any to share, please contact me at leija62@hotmail.com.
Thank you,
Adan Leija

He owned land at one time in Crockett County, and it's possible they moved here after their marriage? any information will be appreciated.
I am looking for information on Erastus Moorhead he belonged to the "Confederate Veterans Association" of Crockett September 17,1891 He was part of "Company K 18 Texas Calvary, Granberry's Brigade" He owned land and lived in the Grapeland area most of his life. His wife is buried in the OLD McCANN CEMETERY: as M.L. Moorehead: b. 4-5-1845 d. 5-26-1884 w/o E.M. Moorehead Sr. brought by W.N. Oliver & wife. From family rumors Erastus remarried after her death and had a daughter. Any information would be greatly appreciated. I haven't been able to find him on census' or any where other than the mention of the confederate association. Had been told that he came from Georgia when he was a small child. According to a great granddaughter he died in 1900 in the Crockett area. Thanks a bunch :-)

I just got back from a wonderful week visiting Crockett County. I saw a LOT of
cemeteries and courthouses. You have a beautiful state and I was
particularly impressed with the Hill Country! I wanted to stay forever.
The one thing I was hoping to find...and did not...was a copy of the book,
Wagons Ho!, A History of Real County, Texas, compiled by Marjorie Kellner.
Another was THE KERR COUNTY ALBUM, compiled by Ross & Clara Snodgrass,
Kerr County Historical Commision.
I am Emailing you to ask your help in finding a copy of the books.
Would it be possible for you to post to your website(s) and ask around for
me. There has to be somebody somewhere who has a copy they don't want any
longer...or know of one that is available! Actually, I need TWO copies of each...
I appreciate any help you can give me...and please keep your eyes open for
me. I'll let you know if I find one in the meantime so you won't keep
searching! Thanks,
Sharon Welch
St. George, Utah
welch@sginet.com
