They were both born in Kentucky and moved their family to Comal County sometime between 1910 and 1920. They died in Comal County. Several of their children including James W.
Conrads Family

I am trying to locate living decendants of Anna Conrads Jonas (1861-1942) who was most likely born in Comal County. She married Karl/Charles Jonas Jr. They had one son Max who never married. In the early 1900's they moved to Atascosa County around the Karnes City/ Fashing area along with his brother Frank Jonas. Max never married. I am trying to identify some anitque photos that I inherited from my grandparents (which they inherited from Karl Jonas Sr) and one may be a wedding photo of Anna Conrads and Karl Jonas. I think at one time Karl Jr and his son Max operated a blacksmith shop at Gruene, Texas before they moved. My thinking is that someone in the Conrad family most likely inherited a wedding photo as well that matches mine. From another tree posted on ancestry.com it is possible that her parents were Clemens and Emma Conrads with the following children as being possible siblings of Anna: Shelia, Clemintine, Arthur, & Nanette. However I do not know this for certain.
Thanks so very much,
Linda Jonas Mullen
guineamamma79@yahoo.com

Searching for J D Hollifield, born Abt 1942

From Sep 1960 thru Jan 1965, J D (John Duffy) Hollifield attended college at Western Ky University in Bowling Green, KY. He was from the Morganton area of Burke County, NC. When he and I graduated in Jan 1965, we both received Army Commissions as 2LT's. We both spent extended careers in the Army, me retiring in 1992.

WKU's military fraternity, The Pershing Rifles, is having a reunion this summer and we trying to locate him, so far to no avail. I did find a Social Security Death Index record that looks like it could be him. That J D Hollifield was born in Sep 1942 and died 15 May 1988 at an undisclosed location. That person would have been the correct age to be a college Freshman in Sep 1960 and that person's SS# was issued by North Carolina.

Is there someone monitoring this Comal County Message Board that may know of this J D Hollifield or family? I visited his mother and siblings in 1961 and they were in a rural area a bit SE of Morganton, Burke Co, NC. He was a Medical Service Corps Officer at Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX.

Any help locating this Army Veteran would be much appreciated.

Looking for descendants of Arnold R. Schwarz

I recently inherited some photos from the Buske/Kruse family. One is a wedding photo from Mrs. Arnold R. Schwarz (Birgheim,Tx-wherever that is) to Mrs. Edwin Kruse. Mrs. Edwin Kruse was Emma Buske Kruse and lived on Mill Street in New Braunfels, Texas. On the back of the photo is a letter asking my great-grandmother to send a photo back to Mrs. Schwarz. My great-grandparents were married in 1905 so I am assuming that the Schwarz's were also married about this time. I did find a birth of a Schwarz in Comal County for 14 Jul 1906. The mother was listed as Mrs. Arnold Schwarz but the child was not named. I could not get them to show up on the census records for Comal County. I am trying to find if they were just friends or if they were related in some way. I can be contacted directly at guineamamma79@yahoo.com.

The above list of names is the roster of the Seventh Texas Mounted Volunteer Regiment Company B. Company B was organized exclusively in Comal County in 1861 and distinguished itself in the American Civil War. My ggggrandfather GW Hashaw was a private in that regiment. My gguncle Henry T Jordan was a resident of Comal County in 1860. Many books have been written about the valiant deeds of the 7th Texas Mounted Volunteer Cavalry. If you know of my uncle or you would like to share information on the regiment or know of old letters, photos or souvenirs of the 7th Texas please contact me. We plan to dedicate a museum display of 7th Texas memorabilia in the future. Contact me by email, or snail mail. Tim Hashaw,1937 Huge Oaks, Houston, Texas 77055

For this reason, I need an image of Texas Judge and member of the Rep. of Tex Supreme Court William E. Jones, aka Fiery Jones. Jones moved from Guadalupe County to Comal in 1851. He remained in Comal County until his estate and surrounding lands were place in Blanco County in 1858. If any decendants or historians out there have an image (portrait, painting, photo, etc) or know where I can obtain one please let me know. I have already tried the major Texas archives image collections with no luck. Also, I would like to share the image with a few of his relatives who have searched for several years.

Thank you

I am looking for information on the old Smithson Ranch Stagecoach that is now Rim Rock Subdivision off of FM 1860.
Rumor has it that the Stagecoach house resided on some property of a relative, along with the blue hole(Natural spring). She was told that it was the local water supply for some time before it dried up and the stagecoach line moved. It was owned by the Smithson Family, for whom the area is named Smithson Valley. Any info. on the Family, Stagecoach house or area would be greatly appreciated.

Franz Grosch, New Braunfels, late 1840s

I have tracked an ancestor for a cousin from New Orleans into Texas. Children's names were Robert (b. abt 1837 in Baden, Germany); Frank Herman (b. abt 1843 in Baden, Germany); Caroline (b. abt 1845 in Texas), and Auguste (b. abt 1849 in Texas) GROSCH. Wife's name was Philippina BRECHA, b. abt 1815 in Baden. I have seen no records for this ancestor, and I don't know whether he lived to accompany the family to New Orleans. He was alive at least until about 1849, but I have not seen him in Louisiana.

Although I have seen a number of GROSS's in Texas (and the name could be a corruption, although none of the ones I have seen fits my profile) I have recently seen a record for a Franz GROSCH who arrived in 1846 in Galveston, and apparently lived in New Braunfels, Comal County. The reference from the book "A New Land Beckoned" (Chester and Ethel Geue, 1982) showed Franz arriving aboard the Verein ship COLCHIS with a party of 10, but didn't list wife or children. It also stated that several step-children of J. H. Metz (Chrsitina, Carl and Mathias Gross) lived with Franz GROSCH in New Braunfels.

Does anyone know anything about this family? He does not appear in the 1850 Texas census. Are there any lists of New Braunfels citizens, or births from this time?

Thanks for anything,
Matt
Where can I find death records dating back that far or Would they even exist? I have an ancestor who died at the age of 15 in New Braunfels in 1885. It is unknown as to whether or not there was a death record, but I would imagine there would have to be if he died there. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I'm looking for information on a family who lived in Comal Co. Leander Gage Jones and Martha Jane Barker lived in Comal in late 1800's. He is buried in the Fisher Store Cemetery. There daughter Havana Josephine Jones married Asa Marshall Perry and they lived in the same area late 1800 and early 1900. They had 7 children all born there. They lived near Fisher store in a small log cabin that was still standing in the 70s. Any info on this family would be greatly appreciated. Edwyna

Is there any newspaper obits for him?

Thanks for your help,
Lynn Reemtsma
reemtsma@usfamily.net
My name is Taylor Bullig. I really want to find my dad's side of the family. I haven't seem him since I was little. His name was John Timothy Bullig. My grandparents is Valentine Bullig and Josephine. They both remarried. They lived in Reno Nevada. My aunts Susan lived in Nevada. My mom said that she was tiny. My aunt Barabara lived in Sacramento for a little bit. I also have an uncle Bill. I think. He start's with B. I think that no one wants to find me because My grandparents abandoned my dad, and put him and his brothers ( James and Ronald) in a foster home. I think that everyone is embarresed. Its easier to walk away from a problem than face it. I understand and forgive the Bullig family. Please anyone help me find them. My mom is adopted from a different county, She can never find her family, I just want to know that I belong and identify with faces. My mom's family loves me and visits me everyday, I would like to meet my other side. Somebody must know a Bullig.
XOXO
Taylor Bullig

Is there anyone on the list that has access to a census of the Heimer Cemetery in the Smithsons Valley?

My great great grandmother Auguste Leitsch-Heimer nee Ludwig might be buried there but I can not find a record of that.

She was born abt 1826 in Saxe Altenburg, immigrated in 1852 with her husband (my gg grandfather) Andreas Leitsch who passed away shortly after arriving and then married Michael Heimer. I know she passed away sometime after 1880.

I feel if they are buried in Comal County where we have them on 3 consecutive census schedules then it is in the Heimer cemetery were they are probably buried.

If someone has access to that cemetery inventory could you please check for Andreas Leitsch, Auguste (Ludwig) Leitsch-Heimer and Michael Heimer?

Warm genealogical regards,

Larry Van Horn, NGS, SCV, NMDA
NMDA National Registrar
Brasstown, NC
Should I apply directly to the county, city, or the state?
I got this information from Wanda Qualls from "Texas Hill Country" mailing list at Rootsweb in Jan of 2001 and am just now pursuing it.
Looking for relatives of Estanislada Salazar-Martinez-New Braunfels, Texas

I am looking for relatives of my grandmother Estanislada Martinez Salazar from Eagle Pass, Texas. She was born in New Braunfels, Texas (Comal County) on 5/21/23. My grandmother has always been very private about her life, but she gives us the impression that something very bad happened in her life, so she tries to erase it from her memory. Her parents were Santos (Santitos) Salazar and Jose Felix Martinez. My mother recalls my grandmother talking about some siblings...Lucia, Guadalupe, Juan, Julian Martinez (U.S soldier (WWII) ) and another sister which name we dont know, but used to be a nun (Hermanas Carmelitas Descalzas). My grandmother onced told me that she was "given" to a man, who later became her husband, by her parents. They then moved to Piedras Negras, Coahuila Mexico where she had 3 children...Joaquina, Juanita (my mom) and Jose Felix. Since then all of us have asked my grandmother to please tell us about her life, why is she keeping all this "hush-hush". But she says nothing. We are just desperate to know because my grandmother is 81 and we are afraid that she will pass away one day and we are going to always wonder if we have more family out there. P. also had a brother James (Jim) who had a daughter by the name of Dorothy who married Guy Hinton. Also a sister by the name of Mattie who married her step brother, Jasper Sargeant. W.
1867 CONRING Suicide News Online

Hi,
I just posted an old newspaper story about the suicide of a 16-year-old boy named CONRING (no 1st name mentioned), near New Braunfels in Comal County, TX. This was scanned from an original issue of the San Antonio Express dated February 15, 1867. See it online here:

http://theoldentimes.com/conring67.html

CONRING seems like an unusual name, which makes me wonder if it were not perhaps a mis-print, and that it should have been CORNING, thus I'm listing both surnames with the hope that someone might be able to make a connection.

I hope this is helpful, and if you have any extra info about the family, I'd love to add it to the page with the newspaper story.
Barbara
