Hello, My name is Leslie Tison Brown, I am the granddaughter of Hazel G. Tison which was the sister of Thelma and was named after my Great Uncle Les (Leslie Adams) I was always told by my father James O. Tison. I also remember going swimming over at there house in Brawley, we all lived and grew up in El Centro. I was born in Indio Nov. 22 1957 my dad and mom only lived there for a short while. We moved back to the valley soon after I was born. But I also have found memories of my Uncle Earl, We kept in contact with my Aunt Nettie but not in the last 20 years. I remember Earl's daughter she was so beautiful. My grandmother Hazel would be the one who would take us (I have 4 other sisters and 1 brother) to Brawley to Les and Thalma's house - I also remember Lila, she was a free spirit. Grandma Hazel's story takes off when she marries Willard Tison, has my Aunt Marilyn and my dad. He is killed in an accident Jan. 28, 1944 in El Centro. I have been reading his letters to his folks when he was commissioned in the Navy 1918, he was from Norris City Ill. Great read - I never was interested until I got older how wonderful all the stories of our family are so important. I would love to know more about Hazel and all her sisters if want to contact me fell free I would love to know new family members. Leslie Tison Brown

My Grandfather is Charles Elijah Turner Durham. He barely survived the Childbirth that proved fatal for Susannah. Shortly after her death Thomas J allowed the Dave Durham family to adopt Charles so because of this we are Durhams but related to all these Turners. I see that you have better dates here, I will have to double check my stuff. I would love to compare pictures of our families.

In July of 1884 Frances Kerby/Kirby reportedly died in Coalman/Coleman Co. Tx. She had been a resident of Young Co., Tx. What could she have been doing in Coleman? I would appreciate any references for the history of Coleman at that time and or advice on locating a gravesite. She may have been accompanied by an 18 yr old Frances Williams. Any ideas?
We have the same information on H.D. I did find on harrigan family tree that William collier (1814-1850) married Isabella Elkins. Married in Lee County, went to Red River City, Texas where William evidently died. She married John Honeycutt 1854 in Red River City. Cynthia and David Collier also lived in Lee County, Red River City and then they all were in Williamson County, then to Coleman county. I believe the Mary Jane Elkins and Elias Elkins that were living with them are Cynthia's half siblings, just a guess. Mary Jane and Elias must have stayed in Red River City. Mary Jane married George Blair. Maybe Isabella was H.D.' aunt.
Cynthia later married Taylor Smith, Jr (Shug) in 1854 in Silliamson County. Tehy are both buried in Glen Cove Cemetary, Coleman County, Texas. Still searching for H.D.'a parents. Hope this helps some. Helen

I too am trying to establish H.D. Elkins' parents. I know he is from Lee County Virginia per his Civil War Records. That he arrived in Texas around 1850. He has some close relationship with Isabella Collier Honeycutt who was also from Lee County, Virginia. Cynthia Collier Smith (married to Taylor Smith) Mary Jane Elkins and Elias H. Elkins. They all lived in the same areas roughly at the same time. Isabella was buried in H.D.'s cemetary and lived with him and his wife I believe in the 1880's. She lived with Cynthia before that. I have H.D. in Liberty Hill., Williamson County Texas in 1860 before he mustered for the Civil War.
Below is a free website which has census records, Texas deaths, births and marriage records. The 1850, 1870 and 1900 census records can be viewed, the rest are just transcriptions. To view, save, print death certificates you have to create a user name and password. I also have Ancestry.com. I did not try to trace the children of Matilda Aron and the brother Wm H Aron.

FamilySearch (https://familysearch.org/

Thanks so much for the reply and yes all this does tie in to my family. How and where did you find the info? I would love to be in contact with others researching this family. Her brother's was William Harve Aaron ( not Harry), but all other information agreed with some of my information.A lot of the information is new to me . I didn't have a lot of info on her sister, matilda. I don't have a membership to Ancestry.com.so, I appriciate your help even more.
I am not related but believe she was one and the same person daughter of Franklin Aron and Millie Elizabeth Massey.

According to Alta Elizabeth Watson Stacy's death certificate, Coleman county 1938, her mother was Stella Roberta "Erring". That is how it is typed.
I'm researching Regular Army soldiers in Texas and have Dudley Johnson in my database. According to the Army's Enlistment Register, Johnson was born in New York. He first enlisted in the Army in 1820 and served until the outbreak of the Civil War in 1861. Johnson was appointed an Ordnance Sergeant in 1853 assigned to Fort Chadbourne, Texas. He stayed in Texas during the war. I've got his service record and other information on him and am happy to share.

Hello Karla,

Just looking around and saw your post. I looked and found a newspaper that had a very short obit. This one was probably scanned and it shows errors, but the second one is ok but short. If you go to that newspaper archives you may be able to see what was printed on those dates better than what I found. This will give you a starting point. May be more newspapers around there would have picked up this death also. Hope this helps at this late date.

Dale

(Abilene Reporter-News, The Tuesday, May 14, 1974, Abilene, Texas:

Lemuel L.

I have found a census for James Monroe and Laura for 1880 in Frankfort,Franklin, AL which shows that David is not in the home at this time. He would have been 14 years old in 1880. Also, I found Laura Jones Mcright on Findagrave in Coleman, Texas. But, no David by Gilbert or Mcright. This leads me to believe that James and Laura were still married and David had already died. James came to Saline County, AR between 1880 and 1883 since he married in 1883 in Saline County.

There has never been a fire at the courthouse at Coleman. There are many records there from the beginning in the mid-1870's. Probably not online - you need to visit there to do research ... you know ... the old fashioned way. What are you looking for?

Ralph Terry, Coleman County Historian
