Alta is pictured in the 1917 Pedagogue, yearbook of Southwest State Normal School in San Marcos, Texas. She is a junior. I'm not kin but thought this might help others.

My cousin was born in Coke County about 1927-1928-1929. His father was Roy Knight. My cousin's nickname was "Dub" which is the only name I ever knew him by. I have searched the birth listing which are posted for Coke County for his full name and can find no Knight births for those years. Does anyone have access to any records which might show me his full legal name? His sister was Harriet Knight.

Daughters of Confederacy Reunion photo

I am looking for some identification for a picture that appears to be a gathering of the Daughters of the Confederacy, taken about 1900-1910. The Confederate Battle Flag can be seen (barely) flying above the gathering. One old soldier wears his Confederate uniform. He and several members of the group wear insignia of some sort. Seven children, including two babies, appear in the photo. Most of the subjects are women. Sixteen white men are included, and twenty-one women, if my counting can be trusted. There is a black man holding a horse behind the group. There are two tents and two wagons in the background. Three twisted staffs are visible, seemingly of ceremonial use. The Texas Division United Daughters of the Confederacy was organized in Victoria, Texas on May 15, 1896.
My sister-in-law has this picture from her parents' collection. It has no identification of any kind, but her mother thinks that it likely came from the Lander's side of the family. They lived in Robert Lee, Coke Co. Texas. I feel sure that there are other copies in existence.

seeking to find death date & grave of Mary Ann Johnson, b 1825 Upson County, Georgia , to Pleasant Macon and Nancy Gray. She was a descendant of the noted Nathaniel Macon, a North Carolina senator. She married David J Johnson, 1842...they had their children in Coosa County Alabama and at some point, moved to Texas. I do not think David, her husband ever made it, but perhaps died on the trail. Last I find her was in Mc Colloch County Tx, living as a widow at age 54 with her children. Recently someone stated she died in Denton Tx, but I cant find that info.........apparently she lived in Coke Co, near Bront..........hoping someone has some info.....she would have had to die after 1889----1910..........appreciate any info

My grandfather (Orion E. Gerron and Lucille Gerron) was county judge in Robert Lee and my father (Jim R. Gerron) was born in Robert Lee in 1932. A year or two later he had a brother (Robert Gerron) that was born and died at six months. I was wondering if there are any recordings of the graves. I have looked in the cemetery several times and can not find anything and would like to at least place a marker. Does anyone have any information?

Callie was born about 1887 in Texas and was the proprietor of a ladies ready-to-wear store in Bronte in 1930 (listed on census). They had two children: daughter Lennie (?) Bennet, b. about 1903 in Texas; son Alfred Massengale Bennett, b. about 1907 in Texas. There is an A. M. Turner who was working and boarding with the Ricard L (Lee) Richards Family in 1920 as indicated by the 1920 Census records for Coke County, Texas. David L Turner was born in Georgia and his parents were born in South Carolina. From the Census Records David L Turner would have been born about 1849 in Campbell County, Georgia.
David L. Turner was a widow at the time of the 1920 Cenus.
I do not know is he died in Coke County or not but he does not show up on the 1930 Census . Any information will be appreciated.

Talitha Cumi Kersey Martin was my great-great grandmother. She died August 10, 1901, and is buried in Bronte. She was born in September of 1816 in Giles County, Tennessee. She married Andrew H. Martin in Cornie township, Union County, Arkansas on March 2, 1843. After her husband's death in 1863, she moved her family to Coryell County, Texas, where her brother George Kersey lived. She moved to Coke County when she was a senior citizen. Any information would be a tremendous help. Thank you.

I'm going to be in Coke, Mitchell, Eastland Counties, Texas roaming cemeteries in April of 2004. If you think, or you know, you have an ancestor buried in this area (adjoining counties fine also especially IF you have specific information regarding cemetery and its location) and you would like either a picture or a trancript of the information on their gravestone, I'd be glad to look for you. If you wish to send me an e-mail, I'll add them to my list. Please be as specific as possible, particularly with dates, or approximate dates, and full names, if that is possible.
There are two cemeteries I will spending some time in, Sanco (near Sanco, Texas in Coke County), and Oakwood Cemetery, in Cisco, in Eastland County so if you have reason to believe you have an ancestor in one of these cemeteries I'll be glad to spend a little more time searching. Again, the more information you can give me, the more likely I'll find something since my time will be somewhat limited.

he had lived in tom green county until ordered "out of the country under forfeiture of his life" by area ranchers.

I am looking for any info. about my husbands family that lived in Coke Co. in the early 1920's. His grandfather was Charles Monroe Perkins wife was Fay Eccles Perkins and they had 8 children at that time Angie who married while they lived there, Vola who died while the family lived in Robert Lee, John , Everett, Hazel and twin boys Ralph and Raleigh the yungest who was born in Coke Co. was Doris this was my husbands mother. Any help would be wonderful! I do not know where Vola is baried or what newspaper to contact in regards to an obit, she droned at the age of 14 in 1920. The family was living in Rober Lee at the time.

Looking for obituaries for my grandparents, Henry Richard Key(July 21, 1875-October 18, 1932) and Neva Viola Key (August 18, 1876-March 2, 1932). Have checked West Texas Collection at Angelo State University with no luck. Those newspapers are missing for the appropriate dates. Also looking for obituary for Eva Stark Key (December3, 1868-January 1, 1957) and her son O.H. Willoughby, dates unknown. No newspapers at the university for those dates either. These people were descendants of Dr. Wesley F. Key who was given credit for starting the town of Bronte in 1890. Can anyone please help?

KING whom he married in Bosque Co., TX Jan 1, 1880. My grandmother, WILLIE BELLE HALE, was his daughter from first marriage to E.A. LEE (Ester Ann?), they married Dec 19 1871 in Coryelle Co., TX. I am tracking the family of Joshua Brunson. Joshua was born in SC and had the following children: Matthew, Susannah, Elizabeth, Joshua, Larkin, Samuel, and Mary.

I am specifically interested in Matthew and Elizabeth who married in Greene Co., TN to Margaret Wilson and George S. Wilson who were brother and sister, children of David Wilson who died c 1830 Knox Co., KY. Margaret and George are named in David Wilson's will.

Joshua Brunson, George Wilson and Matthew Brunson all lived in Madison Co., AL after 1800. I have lost track of George and Elizabeth Brunson Wilson. I have tracked descendants of Matthew to Coke Co., TX.

Matthew and Margaret had children: Joshua, Susan, George, and Samuel Brunson.

Joshua and Samuel (above) are both in Tishomingo Co., MS in the 1840s. Joshua married an Elizabeth (surname unknown) and had children: Matthew, David J., George W., Mary A., Sarah M., William A., Margaret E., John H., Aldridge C., and Thomas M.

Samuel married Polly Johnson and had children: Suan, Margaret, Eliza Jane, and Matthew, b. c 1849 m. Martha (surname unknown). Matthew died c 1927.

Matthew and Martha appear to be the same couple who are buried in Fairview Cemetery, Coke Co., TX.

I just located entries at the Fairfiew Cemetery for a Mathew Brunson, 1849-1927 and his wife, Martha, 1848-1924. If you have information about this family will you please contact me.

I believe that Mathew was the son of Samuel Brunson and Polly Johnson. Samuel Brunson is said to have been the son of Matthew Brunson and Margaret Wilson married in Greene Co., TN 11 Feb 1809.

Margaret Wilson Brunson was a sister to my Peter Wilson of Knox Co., KY and also a sister of George S. Wilson who married Elizabeth Brunson, sister of Matthew Brunson.

I am looking for all information that I can find on the SINCLAIR STEP CRADDOCK family, that settled in Coke county in the early 1890's, having moved from McLennan County, Texas. He was supposedly engaged in farming and blacksmithing in Sanco. He moved to Coke County, with his wife and several children, and had more children in Coke County. His first (?) wife, MARY ELIZABETH SCARBOROUGH, died in Coke Co. on Sept. 1, 1897. In found in the Coke county Marriages, where S. S. Craddock had married a MRS. E.E. THURMAN on June 28, 1898, and where he had married an EMMA MERCHANT Aug 17, 1902. From what I have deduced, Mary Elizabeth Scarborough Craddock must have died from complications of Childbirth with JAMES MARVIN CRADDOCK, who was born Aug 27, 1897. I have found that a RUFUS ORBA CRADDOCK was born May 4, 1899, with Mary Elizabeth Scarborough Craddock listed as his mother...but since she was dead, I suspect that the Mrs. E. E. Thurman that he married in 1898 was probably Rufus Orba's mother...but I need documentation of that. I also have found reference to Sinclair Step's wife being called EMMA ELIZABETH WHITESIDE...Who knows whether she is Emma Merchant, or Mrs. E. E. Thurman?

Of his children that I have found reference to marrying in Coke Co, are: Donah Anna Craddock m. Charles W. Wulfjen (or Wufjen), Thomas William Craddock m. Mary Hannah (Daisy) Perry, Jesse Sinclair Craddock m. Lela Adeline Morrow in Tom Green Co.,Lottie Lavenia Craddock m. James Arthur Ulmer in Coke Co.
