P. E. DUGAT dd:1870

It came to my attention this date from a representative of the Oakwood Cemetery Association, Refugio, REFUGIO COUNTY, TEXAS, that a headstone has recently been unearthed with the name P. E. DUGAT and a death date of 1870. I researched my own DUGAT database and found a PETER (PIERRE) EMILE DUGAT (DUGAS) who died in 1870. PETER E. DUGAT was married to SUSANNAH (SUSAN) WINFREE daughter of A. B. J. (ABSOLOM JESSE) WINFREE of present CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS. PETER EMILE DUGAT was the son of JOSEPH F. and CELINA BREAUX DUGAT of LOUISIANA and TEXAS. PETER E. DUGAT'S brother JOSEPH LEONAR DUGAT and his family left the lower Trinity River Basin in December, 1869 for St. Marys located about 20 miles from Refugio. Most of the earlier DUGAT arrivals to the REFUGIO COUNTY vicinity settled in St. Marys and are buried there. I was not aware that any DUGAT family members were buried at Oakwood Cemetery. Does anybody have any clues who might be this P. E. DUGAT?

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 5 March 1930 R. H. WALLACE, 19, shot and killed Chambers County deputy constable Levi OLIVER. The newspaper reported that the shooting resulted from a "family fuss." The question I have was OLIVER and WALLCE related or was OLIVER attempting to break up a family fuss?

The Leavenworth Library has the grave info of who is burried. I am just trying to get back as far as I can so I can pass it off to my Grandchildren. The farmett that I presently live on is the original place that My Grandpa James Warren Chambers and My Dad Roy Francis Chambers owned and worked. I Hope My Great Grandpa Aaron lived there also.

She has since remarried and I don’t know her new name. I spent six years trying to locate my mother’s family and finally have. They gave me Sue’s name but cannot remember her new name either. I know that she lived in La Porte, Texas when Willie died but I am unsure where she is now. Sue’s last name on the marriage license is Burrows and on the marriage indexes is listed as Cole. Anyone who knows Sue, please pass this message along to her. My email address is brianna221@cox.net or my phone number is 479-650-6480.
My Family Surname - Dillard

I am also researching my Dad's family who lived in Old River or Winfree (Chambers County, Tx). His name was David Vinson Dillard, born in 1909. His father had 7-8 kids: William (+ Lena), Adelle, John, Bronson and several others. We had lost touch with them many years ago and I don't remember much about them. I think that their father was George S Dillard and that he lived near the Coopers (William Henry and his 9 kids). I remember Uncle Bill and Aunt Lena lived up a hill about a mile from Old River. Two of his brothers - John and Bronson (bachelors), lived down the hill, nearer the water. He had a son Buddie who had lived in La Porte.

Would appreciate any info that anyone might have on my family.

I know that there is another Dillard family in Mont Belvieu, but am not sure that they are related. Anyone know for sure? Have received word that they probably are not related.

If anyone has information on my uncle's family in Chambers County, Tx. We have been running into a brick wall, so far. This is what we think that we know:

George Washington Terry & Mahaley Bennett had a son Robert Silas Terry (born 7/3/1869).

Robert married ??? and had a son William (Bill) Terry. She died or they divorced.

Then, Robert married my grandmother Sarah Emma Minnie Cooper (born 10/28/1894) on 3/24/1908 in Anahuac. He had 3 children: Charles Washington(Walter)Terry(8/31/1911) and Margaret Julia Terry(9/3/1913) and Vernon Silas Terry(6/6/1916). Charles was born in Moss Bluff (Liberty Co.).

If anyone knows anything about Robert or his dad George, it would make my day. We haven't been able to find out anything about them - where did they come from, etc.

Please send me an E-mail if you know about them.
Am researching my great, great grandfather who lived in Chambers Co. Texas. His name was William H. Cooper, who married Mary Ann Duncan. He was born in England about 1822 and she was born in Tenn about 1833. They had 9 children: Mary Ann, Charles, Luther, William F., Laura Isabel, Joseph E., Emma J., Baptiste F. and Jesse. Mary (first child) was born about 1851 and Jesse (last child) was born about 1879. Have quite a bit of information on our family already, but would appreciate any additional help from other individuals.

GRIFFITH,DUGAT,JOHNSON,WILLIAMS

Henry GRIFFITH, Albert Gamelia DUGAT, Dugat WILLIAMS and Blair JOHNSON served together during the Civil War in Hoods "Texas" Brigade, 5th Texas, Company F. During the Second Battle of Manassas (Bull Run) on August 30, 1862, Henry GRIFFITH of CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS, according to his cousin Lucinda DUNMAN of COLEMAN COUNTY, TEXAS, witnessed the death of both Blair JOHNSON and Albert G. DUGAT. Henry GRIFFITH was wounded himself at the battle and taken to Yorktown, Virginia, presumably for medical treatment. I deduce that Henry GRIFFITH was incapacitated and unable to report back to his Company F of Albert's death, leaving it up to others to discover that he had indeed perished in the battle. It was Albert DUGAT's first cousin, Dugat WILLIAMS, of LIBERTY COUNTY, TEXAS, who searched for Albert DUGAT the following day. Dugat WILLIAMS' Civil War letters back to his fiancee Laura BRYAN in Texas are in the possession today of Anne Parker. Dugat WILLIAMS had the sad task of discovering the body of his first cousin Albert Dugat. He buried him within a few feet of where he fell.

Are there any letters or other documents that survive today from (Dr.) Henry GRIFFITH which might shed some additional light on the events of the 5th Texas and circumstances surrounding the death of Albert Gamelia DUGAT? I have read the transcription of Henry's letter to Lucinda DUNMAN that is recorded in Flavia Fleishman's "Old River Country" book. Does anyone know who Blair JOHNSON was? The known written accounts describing where and when Blair and Albert died on the battlefield that day vary. Also, the wound that killed Albert Dugat has been vividly described in two separate accounts as decapitation by an artillery shell and a wound clear through his right breast.

Could anyone point to a direction where I might find the port and/or ship? Kinda of vague but I would appreciate any and all suggestions. Thank you beforehand.

They later in 1910 moved to Stowell, Chambers County, TX. Here they farmed a small acreage of citrus fruit. The hurricane of 1915 wiped them out and again put them on the move to Coos Bay, OR. There most of the 8 children married and moved off to parts of the west coast.
All of the children, except Walter, changed their surname to Flanders

Searching for information on the death and marriage of L. R. Sherman. I believe his first name is Leo or Lev. He was b abt 1817 in NH or NY and was living in Wallisville by 1860. He died between 1870 and 1880, as his wife, Margaret had married John Stengler by 1880. Margaret and L. R. Sherman had children Edward b abt 1843 in Illinois; John b abt 1845 in Illinois; and Leverett b abt 1847 in Missouri. I noticed the marker in Anahuac Cemetery. This is definitely the family I am seeking. Does anyone have access to death records or cemetery records that would give information on the full name and death date of L. R. Sherman?

Thanks very much for any help given.

I do not know the man's name, but apparently he was S.E. Fereday's business partner, maybe with a fishing camp called "Sam's Place" or some other venture. Apparently some things happened and this business partner hung himself probably in the late 1930's.
Am researching my great, great grandfather in Chambers Co. Texas. His name was William H. Cooper and married Mary Ann Duncan. He was born in England in about 1822 and she was born in Tenn about 1833. He had 9 children: Mary Ann, Charles, Luther, William F., Laura Isabel, Joseph E., Emma J., Baptiste F. and Jessee. Mary was born in about 1851 and Jessee was born in about 1879. I'm new in the geneology area and would like to add to my current knowledge. The other names above are male spouses of the women listed above (except for Griffith & Stubbs). These last 2 are spouses of Henry Charles & George W., sons of Charles(second son of William H. above). That's a mouthful.

My suspicion is that he was perhaps distant relatives to the Joneses in Wallisville. His ancestors were from Frederick Co, VA, to Kentucky and Indiana, Missouri then to Victoria, TX.

Would love to compare, share, swap info on this family.

I am most interested in finding the burial site of Arthur H WIGGINS.
Arthur WIGGINS was the only child born in LA while the other children of John & Elizabeth WIGGINS were born in Chambers County.
John WIGGINS is deceased and not listed on the 1860 Chambers County census.

My Great Grandmother was married several times. Looks like her second husband was a very nice looking man named Raskopf. I have documents signed by her as Emeline Raskopf. I don't think this marriage was very long lived. She was in San Francisco during the big earthquake and supposedly her husband was a fireman at that time. Then I find her in 1910 in Nome Alaska already divorced from another husband. I would love to know who Raskofp was. I have a great picture of the two of them, the back is labled, "Little Grandmother Raskopf" I have a feeling that Grandma was a pretty hot little number. Probably needed a fireman around!

Seeking information on the Rufus W. Nelson family listed on the 1880 Chambers Co. census. I believe this is the same R. W. Nelson who married into my Reeves line in Rusk Co. TX. Other Nelsons in Double Bayou on the 1880 were John C. b. 1816 MD; William H. b. 1857 TX; Minnie b. 1857 MA; Walter b. 1872 TX; Mary b. 1875 TX; Edwin Lee b. 1877 TX, and Rosa b. 1879 TX. I am not sure about who belongs to whom yet, but it appears Walter, Mary, Edwin, and Rosa may be children of my Rufus and Mary as they were married in 1868.

I have been working on the family history for Mom (Genevieve). There is another website Frazar.net you might be interested in Jeremy Frazar is the webmaster and would gladly accept any family history you might have to add. Geneology is the page you look for.

Clifton, my mother is Genevieve Edna Frazar, born to Lum and Ruthie Frazar. I have a friend in England who works in the Census Records. I have already asked him about Grandfather Cooper but he says he needs to know if we know where he came from. The geneology records I found in Great Britain did not go back to 1822. I also found a William Cooper on a ship here but he was from Ohio. Let me know if I can help.

Carolyn McLaren
cscmclaren@hotmail.com

Would like to have the list of Frazars that you have.

Josephine Mays or Mayes Desendants

I am looking for information on my great grandmother Ms. Josephine Mays(es) Johnson. All the information that I have is that she married a Desra Johnson Sr. and they had 8 children:Erma Mae-1906,Lucile-1908,Dina Ruth-1910,Kyle-1912,Desra Jr. 1914, (Rodney and Doris I have no info on.) Had strong Indian features but of what Indian tribe they were from I haven't a clue. If I'm not mistaken Uncle Rodney was killed by a man in Anahuac, Texas(oral interview-1978). There was an Uncle Billy Mays(es) that had long black hair,light-skinned,,light colored eyes, was told that they were light gray or green. He stood about 5' tall, stocky built and lived in the Hankamer -Monroe City-Double Bayou Texas area. He was an avid hunter.

Would like to hear from someone that know family history and is not ashamed to know "your people".
