It came to my attention this date from a representative of the Oakwood Cemetery Association, Refugio, REFUGIO COUNTY, TEXAS, that a headstone has recently been unearthed with the name P. E. DUGAT and a death date of 1870. I researched my own DUGAT database and found a PETER (PIERRE) EMILE DUGAT (DUGAS) who died in 1870. PETER E. DUGAT was married to SUSANNAH (SUSAN) WINFREE daughter of A. B. J. (ABSOLOM JESSE) WINFREE of present CHAMBERS COUNTY, TEXAS. PETER EMILE DUGAT was the son of JOSEPH F. and CELINA BREAUX DUGAT of LOUISIANA and TEXAS. PETER E. DUGAT'S brother JOSEPH LEONAR DUGAT and his family left the lower Trinity River Basin in December, 1869 for St. Marys located about 20 miles from Refugio. Most of the earlier DUGAT arrivals to the REFUGIO COUNTY vicinity settled in St. Marys and are buried there. I was not aware that any DUGAT family members were buried at Oakwood Cemetery. Does anybody have any clues who might be this P. E. DUGAT?
