I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 5 July 1892 Donley County Constable James Frderick GREEN and Cattle Inspector G. B. (Bingham) GRISSOM were killed in Clarendon. GREEN was reportedly buried in Donley County but his grave site cannot be located. He was reported living in Callahan county in 1880 census. He was born in 1859. If anyone knows his place of burial it would be appreciated. He was Texas Ranger in West Texas between 1882-1887.

I am seeking ANY information regarding Joseph B. Braddy and John M. Simpson families of Callahan County. Deed info indicates that Joseph B. Braddy and J.H. Breeding were involved in a number of land transactions b/w 1881-1887. Joseph's daughter, Margaret Louisa, married John Marion Simpson (rancher) and their first son, William Arthur Simpson, was born in Tecumseh, Callahan County, 3 Jan 1887. Also it is possible that Joseph and spouse, Fannie Mitchell Braddy lost a son, George E. Braddy, in Callahan County sometime b/w 1880-1887

Marriage Lookup Assistance - Baird, Callahan, TX

Hello,

I'm hoping that someone can provide advice on if it's possible to do a marriage lookup from ~1891 (I'm getting the date from later census records) for Baird, Callahan, TX. I believe the marriage would have occurred in the Methodist Episcopal Church (south) as the family was quite involved with this church.

The names I have are as follows.
GROOM - James Christie Lane (might be recorded as Christie James, James, or Christie), son of James Edward Watson Lane and Harriet Fleeman Lane.
BRIDE - Sadie Ecken (this spelling/name comes from later census records but I realize that Sadie was a common nickname of the time), possibly born in PA of German born parents.

Am hoping to find the record so that I can (1) verify gr-gr-grandma's name and (2) learn the names of her parents since I have not yet been able to find record of her anywhere prior to 1900.

Thanks for any assistance/pointers provided!

John (Pickens)Black, is indeed, the brother to Missouri Black-(Dancler); Missouri Dancler was Aunt to my father-in-law, King Agrippa Dancler, Sr., the son of John Wesley Dancler. They made their home in Arkansas in the vicinity of what is now, Newport, Arkansas.

As I understand it,they lived in the area of Tallapoosa, Alabama.

Patrick Henry Callahan

OBIT - LLANO NEWS - 1920

DR, D. H. CALLAHAN

Last Saturday evening the citizenship of our town was shocked and grieved when the word was passed that Dr. P. H. Callahan was dead.
The news came as a surprise to most of our people, many of whom did not even know the Doctor was ill.
Just about 6 o’clock he breathed his last at his residence, having been sick for three or four days, suffering from affection of the heart. His sudden passing was attributed to heart failure.
Patrick Henry Callahan was born in Alabama, August 17, 1848. On his next birthday he would have been 72 years of age.
In early manhood, he came to Texas and 22 years ago he moved to Llano where he lived until his death. The doctor was married three times. His two former wives preceded him to the grave. In August of 1907, he was married to Miss Cora White, who survives the departed husband and father.
Besides the widow, he leaves ten children. Mrs. Harriett Durst and Mrs. Alec Alley of Austin, Hattie Callahan; Louis Callahan; Mrs. Ivan Tilden of Abilene; Lillie Chester and Kathryn Callahan of Georgetown, and Cora White and Patrick Henry White of Llano.
Interment was made in the Llano Cemetery Sunday afternoon, the funeral services being held at the Methodist Church by Rev. Pennybacker, deceased having been a member of that church since childhood. The funeral services were in charge of Miles Burttery and the following acted as pallbearers: G. M. Watkins, G. C. Breazeale, Lee Hazelwood, Austin Long, G.G. Galloway and M.C. Wilkes.

In the passing of Dr. Callahan, Llano has lost one of her most beloved citizens. His wife and children are bereft of a devoted and dutiful husband and father, and his associates, a loyal and true friend.
For four years Dr. Callahan was Mayor of Llano and as such devoted the greater portion of his time to the development of our town. Being a man of high ideals and possessing as he did an unyielding desire to see his town and her people thrive and prosper, he almost sacrificed his business and worked early and late that these aims might be realized. For the past few years his health had not been good and he was forced to retire to a less active life, and a good portion of the time was forced to suspend the practice of his profession. In the practice of dentistry during the 22 years of his residence in Llano, he ministered to countless numbers who held him a warm place in their affections.
In all matters concerning the interests of his Town, his County, his State and his Nation, The Doctor was always found on the side if the right and never failed to make his position known.
But his life of usefulness is at its end. He has gone on to his reward after having passed the mark of his three score years and ten.
To the bereaved widow and children the News wishes to be numbered with the friends who sympathize with them in their sorrow.

Dr. P. H. Callahan was my great uncle. I would appreciate any information from Callahan researchers on his life prior to coming to Texas from Alabama.

Jim White
We are related to Issac and Jesse Dyson. It is to my understanding that they acquired 4,428 acers in Callahan county through land grants. They also acquired 640 acers in Harrision county, and 177 acers in live oak. I understand that this occured on July 23,1861. They were killed however shortly thereafter by indians or Mexicans. In 1981 we made an attempt to find out more information about this subject. We recieved a few letters from a man named Al Dyson who claimed to be working on getting the land back. I also understand that the land is one of the richest oil bearing areas of the United States. If anyone has any information that could help me finding out more about this land situation it would greatly appreciated.

I do live in Alabama. I live in Athens about 15 miles from where Uncle Charley was born and raised. I have a book that list all his children and some of his grandchildren. It also traces us back to A John Harrison that lived in Virginia and Tennessee . He was born about 1765 and died in 1810. I have a copy of his Will . He would be Uncle Charley's GG grandfather. Uncle Charley had 5 kids. Nora, b 22 nov 1895, who married Robert Britton , they lived in Clyde, we visited them in 1962. Marvin who may have died young, Melvin b nov 20, 1899, Lived and died in Abeline,TX Alton b aug 1901 d 3 july 1935, and Vivian who married Albert Chandler. She visited us around 1990 and visited the Craig Cemetary where her grandfather David H. Harrison is buried. Her daughter Cathy lived in Chattanooga, TN but I don't know her Married name. My e-mail address is stanstans@bellsouth.com if you want to write. Hope this helps.

The Charley Harrison you mention is my Great Uncle. I remember as a child visiting him in Clyde Texas. We drove from Alabama to Texas in a 1953 Plymouth . Uncle Charley would ride the bus to Alabama every few years. He brought two suitcases. One for his clothes and another for his whiskey. Limestone County, Al was dry. I believe he died around 1964.
He left Alabama Around 1900 and settled in Texas . His wife was also from Alabama. She died before I was born . I have some info on him if you want it.

Affidavit of D. H. Beeler, Grainger Co., Tennessee, 1919

The original of the following transcribed document was found in the 1888 Chancery Court case, William Idol, et al, vs. Rachael Beeler, held by the Grainger County Archives in Rutledge, Tennessee:

Wm Idol et al	}	No. 1011.
vs.	}	Chancery Court Rutledge, Tenn.
Rachael Beeler}	Clerk and Master’s Office

The deposition of D. H. Beeler taken before the Master, at his office, on this the 22nd day of July, 1919, in the above styled cause, in the presence of J. G. Waller, Esq., Attorney, representing the claimants in said cause
The said D. H. Beeler being duly sworn by the Master, deposes as follows:
Examination by Hon. J. G. Waller:
Q.	Please state your age, residence and occupation.
A.	I will be soon sixty-six years of age, having reached my sixty-fifth birthday, I reside at Liberty Hill, and am a farmer.
I am the son of Rachael Beeler mentioned in the above styled cause, who was decreed to be entitled to the one-third interest in the sale of the tract of land sold in this cause. My mother Rachael Beeler was a resident of the State of Illinois at the time this land was sold, and has never been back to Tennessee to receipt for this money. Myself and W. T. Beeler, and Matilda Widby are the three Tennessee heirs of Rachael Beeler. After she left Tennessee, and went to Illinois she took her son Enoch Beeler [also referred to in this case as Enoch Brock] with her and after she moved to Illinois she had two girl children born, who are now more than twenty-one years of age; one of the girls names was Sarah Beeler or Sarah Brock, and the name of the other I do not at this time re-call. My mother died several years ago, say something like ten years, and the six children above named are her heirs, and only heirs, and are entitled to receive a one-sixth interest of the fund now held in the registry of the Court. She left no will at the time of her death, and so far as I know no administrator was ever appointed. I don’t think there ever was one in Tennessee. The last known address of the Illinois heirs was Leroy, Illinois. William T. Beeler’s present address is Cross Plains, Texas, and the address of myself and Matilda Widsby is Liberty Hill, Tenn.
And further sayeth not.
D. H. Beeler
Sworn to and subscribed before me this the 22nd day of July, 1919.
W. T. Phillips
Clerk and Master.

The following marriage records are held by the Grainger County Archives:

Jacob Beeler and Rachel Akin, 27 Jan 1848
James T. Satterfield and Matilda Beeler, 19 Jul 1867
James H. Widby and Matilda Satterfield, 6 Aug 1880
Not related! Are you certain there are descendants of John Floyd Berry and Pearl Fountain Cook? The census indicate the couple only had two sons: John Floyd Berry (1 Aug 1899 - 24 Aug 1969) and Clifton Montgomery Berry (24 Jan 1902 - 12 Feb 1965). John, a rancher, died in Callahan County. His wife Thelma was the certificate's informant. Clifton, a pharmacist, died in Haskell County. His wife Mildred was the informant. There are no births listed on the registry for either couple. Perhaps you can obtain their obits which might reveal additional info on the families?
