Hi and saw your 9 Jul 2006 post re Bindewald name.  Have you done much research on Bindewalds?  I am helping my aunt by marriage with her genealogy.  Her mat. gmo was Jacobina (later Johana/Johanna) Bindewald/Binderwald, b. 1873, possibly around Frankfurt, Germany.  Johanna's family was a Catholic Frankfurt banking family.  She later fell in love with and married Herman Herz, b. 1876 and also of Frankfurt, whose family owned a furniture business.  Herman was Jewish and for that reason, the Bindewalds opposed the marriage.  While in Germany, the two had 2 children, Vera Louise and Herman. In 1908/09, they immigrated to the USA and settled in Elizabeth, NJ, where Johanna (she chose to rename herself Johanna) and Herman lived for the rest of their lives. In Elizabeth, Herman first worked for Singer Sewing Machine Co. and then was an inspector for The Standard Oil Company. Louise, an accomplished singer, later wed Raymond B. Smith and they had a daughter, my aunt. Johanna and Herman's son wed a lady named Pearl and had at least one child named Richard or Herman. My aunt cannot recall any maternal or paternal relatives being in the USA. She recalls meeting an aunt (cannot remember her name) when she and her mom Louise and gmo. Johanna visited Frankfurt in 1926. Any help or suggestions to assist us with this search would be most appreciated. Thanks. Lois Dye Trampe (dyetrampe@roadrunner.com)
