I noticed in the index of "First 150 years in Luling" there was a J. W. Strickland. I'm hoping to get more information about parents of my GGF Joseph Washington (went by J.W. I think)Strickland b1843 in Ga.(later Alabama, then Texas) My GF, William Louis Strickland was probably born in Luling in 1875. Can someone look up the J. W. Strickland in that book and let me know. It would be greatly appreciated. I can't seem to break the wall on J. W.

Did anyone turn up to claim the Stephen Dorris property in Ellis County? Can anyone give me anymore information regarding the property of Stephen Dorris in Ellis, TX?
Stephen J. Dorris is my gg grandfather. He was living in Grassy, Williamson Co., Illinois in 1910. I descend from Stephen J. Dorris and wife Cynthia Caroline Cole. Richard Thomas Dorris, his son, is my maternal great grandfather.

Gray family

Apparently my great great grandfather was from Prairie Lea and named Anderson Gray. My great grandfather was Thomas Jefferson Gray, who married Carrie Rebecca Medford, who is said to have come from "near Atlanta" Georgia.

I would love to hear from anyone who knows about the Gray family who eventually moved to Callahan County up in West Texas, or the Medfords.

My grandmother was Ester Gray South.

I'm trying to find any information on my grandfather Vivian Reagan McDowell born abt 1906-1908 in Caldwell County. Family from around Lockhart. I found in 1910 Census a C. T.(?sp) and Rosa with a young child named Reagan in the Lockhart - District 25 - Page 24 - #264 and #264. The 1920 Lockhart District 52 Page 47 #529 and #560 has Charles T. divorced. I don't know who his parents were. Any help would be appreciated.

I am going to be visiting the Lockhart City Cemetery looking for two of my ancestors' gravesites (David Brown McManus and his wife, Willie Kate (Stone) McManus. I have just found a reference to their burials in the Lockhart City Cemetery, Section D. But, I am having trouble (online)finding a map or grid of that cemetery to know where Section D is. at the Polonia Cemetery off of 183 in Caldwell County, near Lockhart, TX. It is usually in September of October. I missed it last year. I would like to know the dates for this year, 2006.

Billie Sims and Amanda Miller-Sims

My gfather, Billie Sims, was born as a slave in Texas (Caldwell County) around 1858 according to the 1920 Census. He was married to Mary Sims. They had five children and two gchildren in the house at that time. I have researched all the census from 1870 thru 1930. Billie is not in any of them except the 1920 Census.

I knew Billie was married twice. His first wift was Amanda Miller. They had ten children. I found a Wm. Sims born in Texas in the 1870 Census. His age was within two years of Billie. In the 1880 Census I located William and Amanda Sims with three children in the house.

I think Billie/William mother might be Zelpha/zylphia Sims who later married Sid Ellisen/Ellison. Zelpha/Zylphia had 10 children. In the 1870 Census Zelpha Sims had two children in the house, Sarah and Doc. Wm. Sims was working for some white people at age 14 the day of the census, Page Sims was working for some white people at age 20 the day of census, Joseph Sims at age 22 lived in his own house with his son age 2. Peter, Elva, Effinnie and Lee Sims also might be her children. Wm. Ellisen was her son by Sid Ellisen.

Problem, I have not been albe to prove that Billie is William. I have not been able to prove that Zelpha and Zylphia are the same person. I have not been able to prove that Wm., Joseph, Page, Peter, Elva, Effinnie and Lee are Zelpha/Zylphia childre.

Any help would be appreciated. I also need to find Sims slave owners in Texas.

Looking for a Jesse G and Mary A Cooke family. Jesse and Mary both born in Calhoun County, Mississippi, he in 1895 and she about 1894. The 1920 Census places them in Newton County, Mississippi, with children, Lavinia and Wayne, and mother-in-law Eliza Moreland. Other children include Gwynne, Jaime, and Lois, all daughters. Gwynne married a Wilson and Lois a Reich. Gwynne and Jaime died in Lockhart, Lois in DeRidder, Louisiana. Any help on this line would be greatly appreciated.

I am searching for information on the Cornelius Crenshaw Family. Cornelius b. Abt 1780 and d. Oct 1860 in Caldwell County, Texas. He was married to Malinda Parham.
Their children were:
Samuel, b. 1814 and d. 1842.
Cornelius, b. 1815 and d. 1863.
Thomas, b. 1817 and d. 1836.
Mary W., b. 1819 and d. 1839.
Nathaniel, b. 1822 and d. 1855.
Isaac H., b. 1824 and d. 1884.

I believe some of the children could have lived in Sabine and Panola Counties, Texas.

Cornelius Crenshaw was the son of Nathan Crenshaw and Sukey Jones. Nathan was b. Abt 1755 in Lunenburg Co., Va. and Sukey (Susan) was b. Abt 1785 in Union D.istrict, SC.

I am looking for information concerning the children of Joseph and Lucy (Davis) Studhalter. The 1880 census lists Joseph and Lucy as living in Luling, Caldwell County, Texas. The 1900 census lists them near Trinidad, Colorado, but the city directories show that they lived there only one year. However it states that Lucy has had 10 children, but only 3 are living. I'm trying to find information about any of the children. I have found names for the 3 that were living: William L. (born 29 Feb 1888 in Yemble, Texas), Mattie (born Oct 1885 in Texas) and Irna (Born July 22, 1890).
P.S. Has anyone ever heard of Yemble, Texas? I can't find it in the atlas or online under Texas ghost towns.

I find this couple in Justice Precinct 6, Caldwell Co., Texas in 1900 and 1910. I'm wondering if she was Elizabeth Surprise from Lake Co., Indiana. Anyone know this family? According to the census they had 3 living children in both years. Since I cannot find them in 1880 or 1890 I have not identified their children.

I am seeking information about Gordon Lawson based on the following information:b. 24 Mar.1911 in Caldwell County Texas, d. July 26, 1978 with Luling, TX listed as his last residence. I believe he served in World War II and Korea and is buried in a Military Cemetery.
I would really appreciate an obituary or some information regarding the military units in which he served

Need marriage and/or divorce lookup for Joseph W. Strickland and Sandra (maiden name unknown, and first name not clear in census record). I have always heard her called Nadine; perhaps she was Sandra Nadine? Trying to learn her maiden name. They are listed in the 1930 U.S. Census of Caldwell County, Texas, Pct. 2, both 32 years of age, both 31 years of age at first marriage. So they must have married in 1929, and I believe they were married in Caldwell County. They were divorced before 1937.

Stephen, wife Vina and family appear to have travelled from AL to Caldwell Co. in 1885. He died in 1898. Looking for help to determine if he had bought land in the county.

His widow was niece of Calvin Miles. In 1900 she and children were living next door to him. Perhaps this was land her husband had purchased.

I live in Columbia, SC which makes research difficult.

I am searching for info on my great-greatparents. My great-great grandmother was a Caldwell, possibly Anne. She married a Brady, but don't know his name. They would have been born later 1700's. They had a son, Patrick Brady who went by the name of "Big Coat" Brady" who married Rose Brady, same surname. Patrick was a farmer in Cavan. .

My great-great grandmother Caldwell had a brother Michael.
Michael had a son, Patrick.

I am looking for information about the date and place of the death of Mary A. England. She was the wife of Davis Pettway England and the daughter of John M. Davis. She was born about 1858 in Callaway County, Missouri. She was married to D.P. England July 15, 1880, in Caldwell County, Texas. She is listed in the 1920 and 1930 census records for Runnels County, Texas. In 1939, she is listed as having attended her sister Sarah S. England's funeral. The obit. said she was from Winters, Runnels County, Texas. I can't find any later info. My grandfather John L. Davis said he thought she died in 1955, which would make her 97 years old. Maybe???

Hugh and Sarah BOYLE 1877-1889?

Looking for info about Hugh and Sarah BOYLE. Moved from PA to Caldwell County in about 1877 where they were in the 1880 census as owning a farm. Children were: Jane, Cecilia, Agnes, Mary, John, Rosa, Charles. Agnes married a John Ormand in 1883 (later marrying Frank Tuttle in San Antonio in 1894), Cecilia married John J. Cavanaugh in 1884, Mary married John P. Kelly in 1887 all in Caldwell county. I think Hugh died in 1889, but not sure. I also believe that he was buried in Luling Catholic Cemetery as was his wife Sarah who died in 1893 in San Antonio. In Nov. I posted a query about a couple of marriages ...
I received information about both of them, one happened in July 1930 and one happened in June 1968. Both happened in Caldwell County.

In January I sent off to the courthouse a request for copies of them and this week I got a "form" letter back saying, "This office has received your request ..." We cannot locate the record in Caldwell County.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I could go about getting copies of them?

I'm interested in finding out if two marriages occurred in Caldwell Co. I was wondering if anyone could help me?

My great grandmother's full name: Rilla Rue Mooring McCann Alexander Williams Daughtery. (Mooring is her maiden name, the rest are in order of her marriages.)

1. I'm interested in finding out if Rilla and Noah W. Alexander married in your county, the year would have been 1930, I'm thinking July off the top of my head, but not positive.

2. I'm also interested in finding out if Rilla married an unknown Williams. It would have been after Feb. 1947 but before May 1964. (I know that Noah W. Alexander is buried in Lockhart City Cem. but I don't know what his dates are, the assumption is that he died and that he and Rilla didn't divorce.

I do know that Rilla married Rufus Daughtery in your county in 1968.

Julia Davis was born in 1822 at Abram's Plain, Granville Co, NC. She married Samuel Jenkins, son of Henry Jenkins and Lethe Craft, on 24 Dec 1844 at Granville Co, NC.
Sally A Davis was born in 1827. She died on 18 Nov 1902 at Center Point, Hays Co, TX, at age ~75. She was buried at family cem, Center Point, Hays Co, TX. She appeared on the census of 1880; Living with her brother Thomas J Davis.
Thomas J Davis was born on 8 Mar 1827. He married Joannah Elizabeth Jane Lyon, daughter of James T Lyon and Susannah Wood, on 22 Nov 1847 at Granville Co, NC.
Emalie H Davis was born in 1826 or 1835 depending on records. She married David Norwood, son of John M Norwood and Mary Satterwhite, on 5 Jan 1854 at Granville Co, NC as his third wife. David Norwood was born on 2 Apr 1824. He married Mary Satterwhite on 7 Oct 1843. He married Martha Satterwhite on 9 Jan 1851. I have no death date for David Norwood. After he died, Emalie married George Piper who was born ca 1810 in NC.
The family appears on the census of 1880 at Precinct 1, Hays Co, TX.

My aunt, Rosa Mealer was buried in the Lockhart Cemetary in 1951 or 1952. Having been away from Lockhart for many years, we are now unable to locate the burial site. The County shows no record. I think it would have been in what is now termed as Block K. Her name is not listed on the web site for Lockhart Cemetary. Also buried in the same plot were Elbridge Mealer and Jack Mealer.
