Brooks County Marriage Records

Does anyone have access to the marriage records at the Brooks County Clerk's office? My father Thomas Edward Kirby married a lady named "Jo" (last name unknow to me) between 1930-1940 somewhere in the Valley. I knew nothing of the marriage until recently and would like to have a copy of their marriage record. My father died when I was 3, so I don't remember him, but trying to "piece" his life together through research. Would appreciate any help. Thanks.

If you have appx birthdates & death date for Clemente & Elisa it would help finding them on the census, since I found several with the same names.

You might write to the Brooks Co courthouse to see if they have a marriage date for them and if they dont, perhaps try a surrounding county. Also, you can write to genealogical societies by starting with Brooks Co or one close by - search on the internet for their address.
Ancestry.com only has marriages for TX from 1814-1909 &
1966 - 2002.

My grandmother - Epigmenia Carrejo Garcia married Juan Becerra Garcia. My grandmother had three girls: Corina Garcia Bacco, Diamantina Garcia Albidrez, Domitila Garcia Porras, Alejandro Garcia. These are my aunts and uncle, and my mother is Domitila Garcia Porras, I remember Maria Carrejo - she did not marry, she was teacher at one time, I remember this from by childhood. I do remember her going to take classes at a college ( I don't remember which one though). My sisters are as follows: Viola Porras Arellano, Yolanda Porras Lopez, Alfred Porras Jr., Diana Porras Moore, and me - Minerva Porras Nunez. I live in San Antonio, Texas, where my all my aunts and uncle resided, except for my aunt Diamantina (Aunt Annie, to us.) I have been trying to reach someone to help me with the ancestry of my grandmother Epigmenia Carrejo Garcia. Hope you will return this message. La Mota Cemetery

I am looking for information on La Mota cemetery right outside Benavides, Texas. I was told some of my ancestors are buried there. I would like to know if anyone knows who may own the land it is on. It has a large gate with a sign that states "La Mota Cemetery" and it has several large locks on a huge chain. It is between Benavides and Gonzalito's store going towards Kingsville. Texas Law prohibits the restriction of family members from being able to visit those graves even on private land. This information is available on a website called Save Texas Cemeteries. Any information regarding the ownership of the land would be greatly appreciated.

Felix Longoria family is not found in the 1930 census nor his parents and the one brother found in 1920 and his children. This will at least give you appx birth years and when they came to Texas.

Is there anyone who knows who felix longoria is? My grandfather is robert suarez longoria (born in Encino) who married maria galvan longoria ( born in Kingsville). robert was the son of felix longoria and maria saurez longoria. felix was married to maria saurez untill her death. They had robert, reyes, reynoldo and rudolfo. Then married marta cruz and had lidia born in 1930, lydia longoria born in 1932, rosendo longoria born in 1934, and estefanita longoria born in 1938. I am not sure if there are more. All but 1 was born in brooks cnty. felix was buried in kingsville in 6-27-1946. He worked for king ranch untill his death. Felix Longoria was the son of Sebero Longoria and Lebrava Davila. I can not find anything on them. If you know any of these people let me know.

Brooks County did not come into existence until 1911 when it was carved out of Starr and Hidalgo counties.

Does anyone know who were the parents of Jose CARREJO who married Susana MALDONADO before 1907 in south Texas (Duval or Brooks Co.)?

Jose CARREJO (born 1880, Brooks Co. Texas - died 1966, Brooks Co., Texas, buried Sacred Heart Cemetery, Falfurrias) married Susana MALDONADO (I think her father was Tomas MALDONADO from Duval Co., Texas).

Jose may have used the middle initial "H". Does anyone know what it stands for?

Jose and Susana had:
1. Josefina CARREJO (born abt 1907) - nothing more known about her.

2. Maria CARREJO (born 24 Sep 1910 - Texas - died <date unknown>, buried Sacred Heart Cemetery, Falfurrias, Brooks Co., Texas) - I don't think she ever married.

3. Marcial CARREJO (born 17 Feb 1913 - d. 1 Feb 1972 in Corpus Christi, Nueces Co., Texas) married Florinda "Flora" GARZA (my Dad's 1st cousin 1 time removed). Flora was born in Los Herreras, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and died in May 2000 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Marcial and Flora had three children: Alva Nelia, Ana Maria and Jose Marcial.

4. Margarita CARREJO (born abt 1915) married Fidel R. CANTU. Children: Fidel Jr., Rene, Norma, Diana, Robert, and Nelda.

Brooks County did not become Brooks County until 1910. In 1869 it was Starr County Texas. The county seat is Falfurrias, Texas and the Catholic church there is Sacred Heart Catholic Church, but in 1869, everything was registered in Rio Grande City, Starr County, Texas.

She died 17 May 1973 in Brooks County, TX but the paers I received were not any more specific than that.
I think she is buried there too but I have no idea where or who her next of kin would be and she is related to my great-grandmother Nancy Telitha Smith from Paris, Lamar County, TX.

First Baptist Church of Sabinal, TX (55 miles west of San Antonio) is celebrating its 105th anniversary in April, 2004 and we are looking for information on former pastors.

Rev. Troy E. Brooks was pastor at Sabinal from Dec., 1929 to January 3, 1934. He possibly had a son named Bruce, for that name appears in the Junior Department Roll Book in 1931. An older member of the church who remembers the family said he also had a son named Troy Brooks, Jr., who moved to Nederland, TX. However, we have been unable to prove that or to find other information.

We would like to know when and where Rev. Brooks was born, who his parents were, his wife's name, when they married, where he was educated, names of children, other churches he pastored, where and when he died (if deceased), etc.

Also, we have a wall in the church with pictures of former pastors. We would love to have one of Rev. Brooks, no matter what size or condition. I have a good copier and printer here in my home and would guarantee safe return of any original.

I am looking for someone who can give me information on the George Frank family that lived near Falfurrias in Brooks county. I think that members of the family worked on the Ed C Lassiter ranch sometime during the first part of the twentheth century. I think that Hellen Louise Frank, Bill Norvell, Thelma Norvell, and Annie May Norvell were siblings in the family. Any help in finding out something about members of the family will be appreciated.

She is supposed ot have been born in Acadia, Iron County, MO 7 Feb 1871 and died 17 May 1973 in Hunt County, TX.
For someone this old to have passed away, it must have made the local newspaper!
Or maybe not.
If you know anything about this lady ,please respont to this posting. The TexasDeath Index says that a Cornelia Grace Smith passed away in Brooks County, TX 17 May 1973 and I just wanted to see if it happened to be her. Her maiden name woudl have been HUNT.
