Dead End! Emma Catherine Melton married Thomas C Wilson, 14 November 1877 in Brazos County (record at Courthouse). She died 28 Jan 1941 in Jones County, TX. I cannot find her parents. She appears in the 1880 Census (Brazos County) with Tom and first their 2 children, and is listed as born in Mississippi. There is a 11 year old female Melton in Brazos County in 1860 Census, but none in 1870. Any leads would be appreciated.

Hello. I am planning to drive from Montgomery, (west of Conroe) to Bryan in search of the Alexander Cemetery. It's my understanding that it is AKA the Alexander Methodist Church Cemetery. Is this correct? I am searching for one lonely grave, (William Jefferson Scogin). However, I have no clue as to how to get to the cemetery. Would anyone be willing to give me directions? I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks so much,
Jo Ann Landrum
jhlandrum@aol.com

For one of my classes we went to the boonville cemetary and did sketch maps of different areas. In a family plot I discovered 3 people that all died on the same day. Hinant t. wilson(maybe hinantt wilson), Mary E.C. Wilson, and Ann M. Allen. They all died December 8, 1885. I assume some type of accident happened since they were all died on the same day and were all burried together, but through my research I haven't been able to find anything about what happened. There was also an HZT Wilson that was 107 when he died. We had a sheet with some family histories, but none of them had anything about this family. any help or direction of where to look would be appreciated.

thanks.

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. Bryan policeman A. G. HEARN was stabbed to death by William McIVER or or about 9 Feb 1870. Virtually nothing is known about HEARN. In the Brazos Co obit book, there was a W. T. HEARN, 40, who died in 1895 and buried at Alexander Chapel (I assume this is same cemetery). He was from TN. The 1860 census for TN reports an A. G. HEARN, 36. It is unknown if there is a connection, but I am curious if any HEARN/HEARNE's are buried in the cemetery.

Possibly Austin School in Bryan in 1926

I cannot say for sure but I think I've attached two pictures of Austin high in Bryan. On is a class group picture. It is labeled 1926. The second seems to be a football team picture. Looking at the faces, both appear to have been taken the same year. Looking toward the football picture, (Alfred) Richard Ramsey is middle row, far left. His brother Nelson Ramsey is front row, far left. Thought others might enjoy looking for relatives. Please post if you can identify someone. With enough positive IDs maybe we can prove the school and date of the photos beyond question.

Shadric Reed family

I'm hoping someone out there might know something about the Shadric Reed family. He first shows up with his new wife, Narcissa/Narcissus in the Tyler County 1850 census. He's 24, and she's 18, both born in Louisiana.

In 1860 the family had moved to Walker County (riverport town of Tuscaloosa) where he's listed as a teamster. The children consist of Sarah Jane, 8, Susan L., 6 and Samuel L., 3. Sarah Jane married Samuel A.J. Thomas of Prairie Plains, Grimes County, in 1866.

In 1870 the family had moved to Brazos County where the children in the household are now Laura, 16, Samuel, 13, Lucien, 10, Flournoy, 6, and Clara, 3.

I now know that Narcissus died 16 Nov 1886, and Shadric died 3 Dec 1897. Both are buried in the Boonville Cemetery in Brazos County (just east of downtown Bryan).

There was an S.L. Reed who served during the Civil War in Terry's Rangers, but I can't be sure at this time if this was Shadric.

And that's about all I know. If anyone knows of what happened to the other children (other than Sarah Jane, my wife's g-g-grandmother), or where in Louisiana they came from, or anything about Shadric's and/or Narcissus' parents, I'd really love to hear from you.

Dear List,

I try to rescue old identified photos and find their families. With that said, I have just purchased an old cabinet card style photo of two children. They are identified on the back as "Mr. William A. Simmons and his twin sister". These children are probably 8-12 months of age, dressed in white outfits and sitting together in a chair.

Photo is in excellent condition. My guess would be this photo taken around 1900-1910. It is clear, and has no damage or fading.

Photo was taken (imprinted on front side) by Harper Studio. They had 4 locations, Bryan, TX: Ennis, TX, Temple, TX and Waxahachie, TX. I do not know which location this photo was taken. I will also post on these county sites.

If these children are your family and you are interested in this wonderful old photo, please contact me privately at: jmje36@aol.com.

Thank you, Judy in TX

I would love the help from anyone who may also have a passion for locating ancestors in Bryan, Texas. My father and grand-father were both born there. Both only had one sibling. I am looking for great-grandmother, Eula E. Daniels White and her husband Frank Edward White who would have been born around 1880. I believe that Eula may have died around 1941 and her husband around 1973. Then, Frank's parents as well, Johnson Butler/ Buttler? White and his wife, Mary Ellen (Raye??) White. I would love to hear from you.

George filed papers (Jan 17, 1877) for guardianship of the 3 children after Nancy's death. George and Nancy were originally from Pike County, Alabama. A July 1877 Alabama newspaper had a short story stating that George had returned to Alabama to elude law enforcement. Upon his return to Texas he was caught and hung by "regulators".

I also would like to know what a "regulator" is.

Any help is appreciated.

Sincerely,
Bill Blair
Deland, FL
