Amelia WILLIAMS married William Carroll Andrew Jackson HILL in Brazos Co, TX on Dec. 21, 1869 when she was 21 and he was 55. She was his second wife. Amelia, born Feb. 18, 1848 in Americus, GA, was an orphan and was adopted and raised by Mr. & Mrs. H. C. A. GREEN of Millican, TX, near Bryan, Brazos Co., Texas. Amelia apparently did not know anything of her parents according to her granddaughter, Marie Brady Hunter, who said she had asked her as a child. Amelia had a sister, Sarah WILLIAMS, also born in GA who was living in GA when Amelia was in TX. Amelia's husband, W.C.J. Hill, brought Amelia's sister from GA to TX at some point, probably the early 1870's, so Amelia would not be so lonely. Does anyone know anything of Amelia and Sarah WILLIAMS'
biological parents or of the GREEN family who raised her?
Amelia and Wm. C.J. Hill later lived in Gay Hill, TX, raising a large family there. Amelia died Feb. 6, 1920 after having accidently made a "hoecake" with rat poison instead of baking powder.
