I have a death certificate for Arthur Lee Mathis buried in Pearland, TX, cemetery listed as South Memorial Park.
He died on November 11, 1976 in Harris County, TX.
Does anyone know about this cemetery?? Funeral home was Niday Funeral Home.
Would also like to know if his wife Cleo was buried there also.
Any information would help.

I am a volunteer researcher for the Texas Peace Officers Memorial. On 15 Dec 1890 Retrieve Unit Guard James or Joe JACKSON was returning to the prison from the express office in Oyster Creek with $300. He was found shot in the face with a shotgun outside the gate. A carpenter at the prison, Bill Davidson, was arrested for the murder. I am searching for family members of JACKSON, his place of burial, and the disposition of the case against DAVIDSON.

Theophilus Hudgins death 1883

Looking for information on the death of Theophilas Hudgins which occurred on or about 26 October 1883 in Brazoria County TX. Wondering if local newpaper extant to that era exists which may contain obituary?? Any record of his death would be appreciated. He was born about 1831 in Gates County NC. He enlisted in Waul's Texas Legion (Willis' Cavalry Bat.) from Fort Bend County TX and served throughout the Civil War. After the war, he married (12 Feb 1868) Orelle Ann Nickelson (b. 1846; d. 1929) who was the widow of another Brazoria County Civil War veteran, George Tennelle Davis. Theophilus Hudgins was known as "Theo" and erroneously referred to as "Theodore" in the 1860 Brazoria County census, so it is possible that these names may be associated with him on death record/obituary. In the Tuscarawas County, Ohio cemetery book where her husband (Peter Schneider) is buried, it states that she is buried in Lake Jackson... Any help on finding her burial place would be greatly appreciated...

Looking for Dr. Samuel A. Towsey and relatives. Found some mentions in Census of Brazoria county. Last found in Galveston city directory late 1890's. Josephine Towsey, buried in cemetary at Galveston, died c1874 (wife of Dr. Samuel Towsey. Their children, specifically Caroline McGreal Towsey, taken to Holland by ToeLair or Toelaer family and raised by them. One Towsey listed was Todd and later his widow. This is all the information I've found - looking for missing brothers of Caroline. Josephines, maiden name and family (stories say she was Taylor although McGreal enters in the names frequently.

I'm looking for information on Captain Martin Peske, born in either 1810 or 1812 in Prussia. He married Franziska Bullacher (Boulacher, Bulacher) of Rixheim, Alsace in either 1844 or 1846 (there are two different dates recorded) in Brazoria County. Martin appears in both Brazoria and Galveston Counties in the 1850 census because it appears he had a boat, the Sloop Alamo, in Galveston.

I would like to know where in Prussia he came from, what year he migrated to the U.S., and where he first landed. I've seen his surname spelled Peske, Pesk, Paske, Peski, Pescki, and Peska.

I've also seen mention of a "Martin Peske Survey" in a 2001 Marble Falls, TX city council meeting, so Martin may have owned land in various counties.

Mazie Nell Mack, 71 a resident of Freeport for 38 years, was born in Bryan, Texas to the parentage of Willie and Clara Bell Hersey Smith. She is the oldest of three siblings. She graduated from E.A. Kemp High School, Bryan, Texas at the age of sixteen. She immediately enrolled in Fisk University, Nashville, Tennessee and graduated in June, 1957 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Music. She received a Master’s of Education Degree from Prairie View A & M University, Prairie View, Texas in August, 1972. Her further studies included Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio, North Texas State University in Denton, Texas, Texas Southern University in Houston, Texas and a Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, Texas.
Mazie was a BISD retired educator, licensed professional counselor, secretary of the BISD School Board of Trustees, vice chair of the Freeport Senior Citizens Commission, member and musician of First Missionary Baptist Church, Freeport, Texas, first vice-president, Brazoria County Retired Teachers, committee chair, District IV Retired Teacher Association and Past President of the Epsilon Chapter, Chi Sigma Iota, Honorary Counseling Society, Prairie View A & M University, Prairie View, Texas.
Her professional memberships included (AKA) Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, Epsilon Chapter, Chi Sigma Iota, Honorary Counseling Society, Eta Omega Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma, Honorary Teacher Society, Texas Counseling Association, Texas Association of Multicultural Counseling and Development, Brazoria Counseling Association, Texas Retired Teachers Association, Brazoria County Teachers Association, Brazosport Retired Teachers Association, Red Hat Society and a life member of Texas State Teachers Association.
Mazie loved the Lord. Her greatest contribution was to the Kingdom of God. She helped many children and was the music minister for her church. She also taught classes on self-esteem/knowing who you are to prisoners and was guest speaker for various women’s organizations.
Honors she received: Outstanding Teachers of America, 1972; Notable Women of Texas, 1972; Who’s Who in Texas Education, 1975-76; Senate Outstanding Counselor Award, Texas Association of counseling and Development, 1985; Appointed by Governor Mark White to the Teachers Professional Practice Commission, 1986; Who’s Who in American Education, 1995; Marquis Who’s Who in the South and Southwest, 1996; Marquis Who’s Who in America, 1996.
Mazie is survived by her husband, Emanuel Mack , Freeport, son, Cedric Emanuel Mack (Cathy), Lake Jackson, daughter, Melanine Jeannine Clarabella Mack, Freeport, step-daughter, Mrs. Janice Saddler (Jerry), Clute, brother, Billy Smith (Lillian), Freeport, sister, Alta Harvey (Edgar), Ph.D, Houston, 5 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

I am looking for information about my great great grandfather, A. J. Jackson. I believe his name is either Andrew Jackson or Augustus Jackson. His wife was Charlotte, possibly Charlotte Wilson. His children include Jennie Jackson, Rachel Jackson, and my great grandmother Eliza Jackson. Both A.J. and Charlotte were born in Louisiana.

A.J. was a preacher--he is listed on their marriage license as the preacher who married his daughter Eliza to her husband Frank Chizer. He died in Brazoria County, possibly in about 1948.

Does anyone have any more information?

Can anyone provide any information on the marriage of Charles Everett Wells to Ida Blanche Hancock in or near Angleton, Brazoria, Texas, in about 1900? Charles and some of his family (including his father Lee) came from Missouri, and Rufus Hancock, Ida's father, operated the Hancock House hotel (until it burned) and was (I believe) the Angleton postmaster for a time. Looking for info on Alfred O. Carter (1839-1913) and wife Melina (Moor) Carter (1845-1905). I found her buried at the Confederate Cemetery near Alvin in Brazoria Co. but need to find his place of burial. He is a TX Confederate veteran, but I did not find his name on the cemetery list. I have his death certificate and know he died in Houston; however, it states he was removed to Alvin for burial. Seems likely he would be in the Confederate Cemetery. Did I just overlook him? Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Have a small pamplet with inscriptions from Peach Point Cemetery, Grazoria County, Texas, dated 1/30/1945. All dates on graves before 1945.

Robert Dewayne Byrd, 33, of Norman died Sunday, Feb. 26, in Norman. Services will be 4 p.m. today at Bethel Baptist Church in Norman with the Rev. James Ehrlich officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery in Newalla. Havenbrook Funeral Home in Norman is handling arrangements.

Mr. Byrd was born May 26, 1972, in Freeport, Texas, to Terry L. Brown and Jimmie A. Byrd. He graduated from Odessa (Texas) High School. He moved from Odessa to Norman in 1995. He married Bobbie Bynum Aug. 29, 1999, in Midwest City. He worked for Indian Nation Wholesale Company in Durant for five years. He was a sports fan and especially enjoyed University of Oklahoma sports. Family members say to know Mr. Byrd was to love him. They say he was a loving husband, brother, father, son and friend, that one of his greatest passions was interacting with people, and that he was a gentleman to the core and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Byrd is survived by his wife Bobbie; mother Terry Brown of Newalla; father Jimmie Byrd of Grand Lake; son Ronny Taylor, who is serving in the Air Force; daughter Misti Kirk and husband Bryant of Lawton; brothers Jack Woods and wife Jennifer of Norman and Shane Henderson and wife Toni of Noble; granddaughter Jordan Kirk of Lawton; nieces Tegan and Cameron Woods of Norman and Kamryn Henderson of Noble; and other family members and friends.

Bearers will be John Avery, Jeremy Penner, Jermiah Spurlin, Mike Engert, Jeff Slate and Mark Anderson.

He was married on 8 Jan. 1943 and lived together until
1944 and was divorced Aug. 1945.
All they say on her name was Alice Irene Cole (my
fathers name was Edward Lee Cole)
Is there any way I could get copy of the marriage
record to find out what Alice's maiden name was?

The census establishes my relative was on the Prison Farm Precinct 3, Brazoria, Texas in 1880. Is Ellis Planation/Prison Farm and Darrington Plantation/Prison farm the same prison farm, thus part of Sugar Land community? According to the Handbook of Texas Convict labor worked the Ellis Planation until 1914 when the company sold the property to the state of Texas.

Also, are there a record (s) of where the prisoners were buried or pictures of the prisoners?

I am working on a DAR application and need documentation that Tabitha Callaway, daughter of Jemima Boone, is the grandaughter of Daniel Boone. She is the youngerst child and is not listed as one of Jemima's children in the Draper papers.

There is a Texas historical marker at the Damons Mound Cemetery. The long text listed on the web states this info, but the text marker does not. I believe the "source" of this information is contained in the 1940 edition of The History of Brazoria County. Does anyone have a copy of this book that could do a look-up for me?

My g-g-g grandmother Hannah Goss Stevens and her children might have stayed with the Matson's for an extended period while my g-g-g grandfather, James Stevens was in Colorado County, Texas. My grandparents went from Corsicana to Sweeny.

I can't understand why they would travel that far between 1914 and 1919 just for work.

My uncle Wilson was born in Sweeny in 1918.

I am wondering if they might have had family in Sweeny.

My second cousin's aunt of the Locke side of the family, also moved to Sweeny after leaving the Corsicana State Orphans Home in the 1930's.

I would be so thankful if someone would look up an obit for Bobbie Edna Spivey d. 10 May 1992 in Brazoria. In the 1930 census with her father, Robert Braden it only gave initials for her mother and being as this was Robert's 2nd wife after his first wife died, I have been unable to prove who she was, so hope the obit will shed some light on this. She was married to Ervin Spivey who died 19 Sep 1993 in same area.

On Saturday 12 Aug 1916 at the Clement State Farm in Brazoria County Sergeant Water I VANDORN was stabbed and fatally wounded by a Mexican convict (unnamed). Before he died VANDORN shot and killed the convict. I am interested in any personal history on VANDORN - place of burial, family history etc.

A posse captured PERRY (African American) and he was taken to the jail in Angleton. I am interested in any articles about the case; info on the constable, correct spelling of his name, date of birth, place of burial, disposition of case; etc. Any assistance would be appreciated.

I searching for any information about the Jacksons in Brazoria. My great great grand father was Peter Jackson. He was born in South Carolina in 1814.He came or was brought to Texas as early as 1840's .I really not for sure on that date.I found him and his family on the Washington County census in 1870.I am told that he was part of one of Abner Jackson's Plantations. But I haven't been able to confirm that.Also I have trying to get his death certificate in or aound Lee County and they don't have it.So we are thinking that he just went by Peter I don't know.I am looking for Jackson that might have heard of Peter.Peter married Lucy Davis.And they had five children.Harriet,Savannah,James,Lucy,and Abner.Maybe you might know of this family.Thank you in advance.
