I am confused now. In your second sentence you say Jasper was killed at Dove Creek and his wife married John Thomas. Then you later say he died in 1904. Please help me sort this out.

Below is a post I made in August 2006. It was my greatgreatgrandfather, James Hiram Mabray, who was killed at the Battle of Dove Creek. His brother, Jasper Newton Mabray, did not die until 1908.

I would like to add to this for further clarification.
John A. Thomas married my greatgreatgrandmother, Sarah Jane Cutbirth Mabray, daughter of Elijah and Annie Odle Cutbirth in 1868. Sarah married James Hiram Mabray in 1856 and they were the parents of my greatgrandmother, Caroline, and her brother, Willie Cutbirth Mabray. James H. Mabray was killed in the battle of Dove Creek 1/8/1865.
(Jasper Newton Mabray in his later years lived with his nephew, Willie Cutbirth Mabray, in Sonora, Texas.)
The children of John A. and Sarah C. Mabray Thomas would be half brothers and sisters of Caroline and Willie.
I would like to know the names of those children and if there are any of their descendents that could be contacted.
Please note: The correct spelling of Mabray. It is not Mabry for this family. Thanks.

Sarah Cutbirth Mabray was the widow of James Hiram Mabray.
Jasper was his brother.

James and Sarah were my greatgreat grandparents. Sarah is buried at the Scrutchfield Cemetary also.

Hello Sandy,

Long time, no see - hope you're doing well. I'm still kicking dirt around from the top as opposed to being under it.

Glad to see this thread has been revived. Wish I could devote more time to genealogy than I do but that should change shortly.

Anyway, in your post you said:

"James and Sarah were my greatgreat grandparents. Sarah is buried at the Scrutchfield Cemetary also."

I visited the Scrutchfield Cemetery and tried in vain to find David Mabray's grave. There are some unmarked graves there and I suppose his is one of those. At any rate, have you an idea where he's buried? I looked at the Meridian Cemetery but found no David Mabray there either.

See ya later. - Laura

I just tried to go to the web page I posted regarding Dove Creek and it no longer works. I suppose at this point it would behoove one to Google "battle of Dove Creek" or words to that effect. Shucks!

Hi, there!
I don't know where David Mabray, James and Jasper's father, is buried; but would suspect that he could be buried in one of the other cemeteries around Mosheim or Valley Mills in Bosque County.
Good to see you back posting. I don't have much time to devote to genealogy lately either.

Hey Sandy,
Yeah, I looked at the Valley Mills cemetery as well but no luck. Would have to dig out old papers to find why I thought David Mabray was buried in Valley Mills or Scrutchfield but is moot.

Hope your holiday was a good one. I'm resting today to get over all the miles driven/ridden. C'ya soon.

I just went to that page also and found that the "Battle of Dove Creek" is no longer there. That is disappointing as I wanted to send it to another "cousin."
