Designation "Number exists*, Death F" in Texas Birth Index

Many people have been confused by the designation "Number exists***, **Death F" in the Father's Name Field in the Texas Birth Index.

I emailed the Texas Department of State Health Services and according to them:

This designation is actually **DEATH FILE NUMBER EXISTS***, and it means that the baby was deceased. At the time that the birth certificate was data entered, the only way to make the notation in the electronic record that the baby was deceased was to enter this in the father’s name fields. The actual birth certificate will show the name of the father if that information was available, and the birth certificate will be stamped "DECEASED."

This format is outdated, however, and no longer used.

Note: Several people have pointed out to me that Texas has made mistakes with this designation, so use good judgment and further research when you see this designation in the Index.

Thankyou for responding and sending the information. I'm sorry you aren't related. I am just not sure about the Josephine Camp who d. 1926 in Dona Ana. There is also a Josephine Camp who d. 1925 and is buried in Carlsbad Cemetery. She makes more sense because her son, James P. and daughter Mollie Millman are also buried in Carlsbad Cemetery.

possibly so way down the line relation here. My Standifer line began and basically stayed in claiborne co. tenn.
seems there were a number of Standifers who did migrated out of tenn down to ark,, olk, and finally down to texas.

Looking for information on a Josephine Camp who had ties to Borden Co., TX in the 1890s. She had 10 children but I only know about 5 and not sure of all of them - Martha, Susan, Mollie Maude, James Palmer and Nathaniel Jones Camp. Josephine and some of her children went to Eddy Co., NM in about 1900. I can't find Josephine in 1880, 1900 or 1910 census.

Sanford and Nancy Jane BASS Webber are shown on the 1900 census in Gail, Borden Co., Tx. By 1910 they are in Winkler, Freestone Co, Tx - and Sanford is a widow. Nancy died sometime between 1900 and 1910. I can not find her in the death records.
Any info on the WEBBER family in Borden Co., Tx would be appreciated.

A Ruth Millhollan (spelled different) married Martin Taylor on Dec. 5, 1913 in Borden County. They are both buried in Hico, Texas. They have one daughter living there.

One thing, I never could find on the census, or any other records any mention of Vernon with this family.
The only thing I could find was a social security death index of Vernon McArthur. the ssdi had his dob as 9/8/1898, not the 10/20/1897 you listed. His dod was recorded as 1993 in Woods, Oklahoma

I did find the 1910 Beckham OK census
on this census, it states that Lula had birthed six children, but only four alive.

I have been seeking detailed information about my biological mother, Rose Ferrara, previously known as, I believe, either Rose Borden or Rose Marokovich.

All I currently know about my mother is that she was born in New York City on January 17, 1917 and died in Fairfield, CT. My mother’s mother, supposedly “Susie” Marokovich lived on Albany Crescent in the Bronx, NY at one time. Susie's last known address at the time of her demise was on Katonah Avenue in the Bronx. My mother, Rose Ferrara, is interred at Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.

The confusing part is that she had many other sisters and brothers with different last names. She had a sister, Helen Marokovich who was married to an Anthony Carlich. Helen Carlich died in Warrensburg, MO on January 16, 1919. The other siblings were: Florence Marokovich-Fronalich (deceased), Frank Marokovich (deceased: June 5, 1964), a Sister of the Catholic Order in Chicago, Illinois and John Marokovich (whereabouts unknown to-date). There may be other siblings.

Rose Borden married Jerry Ferrara and lived many years on Fort Independence Street in the Bronx.

Rose Borden’s parents it is presumed are Susie Marokovich (born about 1884) and John Marokovich. I am seeking any information with regard to my mother and why she has the last name Borden instead of Marokovich as all the others are named. Rose was placed in a home at one time, we believe in Westchester County, NY, called the Provincial House & Novitiate of the Sisters of the Good Sheppard & St. German’s Home. The year indicated was 1930. This has not been confirmed. Any information you may have will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Who is J C Borden?

I purchased a steamer trunk several years ago in Houston. It is from the Galveston Trunk Company probably around 1890's. The initials on the outside are J C Borden and there is a picture of a young woman on the inside of the lid. I believe her hair is brown. I am trying to find out more about this young lady. I am wondering if the initials are hers or her husbands.

I will try to take pics tomorrow and attach in this thread.

If you ever found the burial place for Patrick Archie Hughes I would be interested to know where it is.

I have notes that he was buried in Scurry Co. (or Borden Co.) and another note that saying he was buried at Plainview Cemetery in Dawson County.

PURMELA, TEXAS. Purmela is near the intersection of Farm roads 932 and 1241, thirteen miles northwest of Gatesville in northwestern Coryell County. It was established by Martin Dremien, a storeowner who became postmaster when the post office was granted in 1879. According to one local source, Dremien tried to have the town named for his sweetheart, Furmela, but the postal service made a mistake; after that Dremien is said to have sold his store and moved to another state. The Purmela school district was formed in 1901 as a result of the consolidation of the Basham, Sycamore, and Evergreen schools. Purmela school was in turn consolidated with the Gatesville Independent School District sometime after 1950. The community maintained a population of 125 in the 1950s and most of the 1960s, but the number of residents fell to sixty-five in 1968, and to forty in 1970. Purmela had a church and a post office in the 1980s; the population was reported as sixty-one in 1990.

Sharp Cemetery, south of Killeen, west of Youngsport

YOUNGSPORT, TEXAS. Youngsport is on the Lampasas River and Farm Road 2484, nine miles south of Killeen in southwestern Bell County. Michael Young brought his family to the area before 1850. A wagontrain led by Joel Cosper came with 106 people in 1870. A post office was opened in the community in 1871 and probably named either for P. G. Young, the proprietor of the town's hotel in 1884, or for Michael Young; the latter, reputedly a former ship's captain, is said to have named the site "Young's port" when he arrived as the earliest settler. In 1875 a local church, the Live Oak Baptist Church, was organized. A Church of Christ congregation, predecessor of the current congregation, was meeting in a brush arbor by 1882; the church met in the school for many years, evidently built a building in 1925 or 1926, and completed a new building in 1988. By 1884 Youngsport had become a cotton-shipping town with as many as 200 inhabitants, three churches, two cotton gins, a hotel, and flour and corn mills. The first local school of record began operation around 1886. The school, one of the larger rural schools in the county in the early twentieth century, had seventy-seven pupils and two teachers in 1905. The community supported a Grangeqv chapter and a Woodmen's lodge in the early 1900s. The population had dropped to 100 by 1890 and declined slowly to some seventy people by 1914. The post office was closed in 1930, and by 1948 Youngsport had a population of fifty, two churches, and two businesses. Local students were transferred to the Killeen Independent School District in 1938. In 1988 the population stood at forty inhabitants, and there were no business establishments in the community. The population remained at forty through 2000.

Jackson B. Wigley born Feb. 6, 1922 in Williamson Co. and died Feb 5, 1925 in Durham, Borden.

Joe Harvey Wigley born Aug. 30, 1924 in Lampasas and died Oct 21, 1926 in Knapp, Scurry.

Parents are William A.Wigley and Eula Sanders.

Wilma, you have posted your query to the BORDEN county Texas website. You would probably be better

served by posting to the BORDEN SURNAME website and Cherokee County Alabama website.

Lawrence is in Cherokee county and I guess you meant Lawrence county not the town of Lawrence.

The 1850 US census shows a Martin Borden, District 8, Lawrence Co, AL born abt 1840 and one in

District 14, Marion Co, AL born abt 1841. I think the Borden's were county twice, once in each county.

The Bordens' were in Lawrence County AL 1830 census. Head's of household were David born appx

1800 in TN and appears to be Martin's father. Jesse Borden born abt 1808 and a Caleb Borden born

appx 1800 to 1810 who was not in the 1850 census in Lawrence county but they probably were brothers.

p.s. this was an older post and I actually have been to the cemetary since then. I have pictures of Minnie's sad little grave. Her to infant sons are buried near her. The Parker graves that are next to her were her in-laws, Julius Irvin and Martha Jane Bowman Parker. Minnie's husband, Tom Parker, is buried in the Kiowa, OK cemetary. I also visited the O'Donnell cemetary where Adina and Sam are buried. I was not able to locate Junior's (Levi) which I believe is in Brownfield. Actually, James Evans and Henrietta Eubanks are both buried in the Tahoka Cemetery, Lynn County. I am happy to know that there is someone else working on this branch of the family. I will be more than happy to share whatever I have that you can use. I have been working on the family tree since 1978 and have lots of verified information on the Parker/Eubanks lines that go a long ways. Fortunately mom had so much that she shared before she passed away. Thank you for responding and hope to hear from you.

His mother was [3]Mary Theodocia Adina Parker b.1919-d.1996 she is buried in Terry County and his father was Samuel Levi Modisette Sr. 1909-1989. [4]Minnie Edith Eubanks b.1886-d.1921 buried in what they call "plainview" cemetery located in Borden County: off of County Road Z going South,(past the Popnoe house on the left), which is off of State Road 2310, about 7 miles East off of US87, she is Mary Theodocia Adina Parker mother. [5]James Evans Eubanks & Henrietta Frances Edwards were Minnie Edith Eubanks father & mother. James Evans Eubanks died in Borden County, however it became too dark to locate this cemetrey last night. [6]John Buck Eubanks b.1830 - d. 1909& Sarah Sarie Hellums b. 1828 - d.1873 were James Evans Eubanks father and mother.

I am still updating information as I go. You are more than welcome to contact me. I will also get photos of all grave stones at this cemetrey when I go back out there, perhaps later this week, if not on Saturday.

McArthur's in Borden County

My grandmother Avie Lola McArthur was born in Gail TX December 21, 1893. Her father was a cattleman, Benjamin Franklin McArthur and his wife was Lula Braddock. She and her two sisters were born in Gail. Ona Elizabeth was born August 4, 1892 and Flora was born October 5, 1895. Flora died between 1896 and 1897 in Gail. I don't know where she is buried. A brother, Vernon McArthur was born on October 20, 1897. I don't know if he was born in Gail. He may have been born in Zephyr, Brown, TX. By October 2, 1906 the family had moved to Ardmore OK where B.F. McArthur died.
I would be interested to know anything about this family while they were in Borden County. My grandmother's family were all Methodist if that helps. B.F. McArthur had a cattle brand, I saw it once, but have not been able to find it again.

Did you ever find this family in the 1880 census.
If not, try the 1880 Howard County Tx census as Borden County was attached to Howard as well as Shackleford at one time for judicial purposes before it became an organized county in 1896.

Did you ever find your SCOTTS, if not try looking in either Shackleford, Wheeler or Howard Counties of Texas since Borden was attached to both couties at one time or another for judicial purposes before it was organized in 1896.

I have a William Milhollon, born in Texas about 1867, came to Gila, Arizona to work in the mine. Married Sarah Maria Ferris Shields (widow of my g-g-grandfather) in Los Angeles, Calif., in 1914, his first marriage. Apparently no children. Listed in Los Angeles County in 1920 and 1930 Censuses. No information on death or burial.

Thank you for your reply. Your Parkers don't ring a bell. At least I haven't seen a connection as yet. My Parkers were pretty wide spread so you never know....there could be a connection down the road. Mostly I am researching my direct tree but occasionally I run across some "extra branches" :-)

Your grandparents in Tredway, were they Parkers or a different name? I saw a Sanders family listed. In the 1910 census for that district all of the Parkers are my family except for Oscar Parker who was a boarder with a family. A large portion of the community were my relations. Eubanks, Parker, Jones. Do you have any of those in your line? I'm glad to know that at least a school is still there. Now I wonder if that is the one my mother went to. Guess another trip there is called for!
