Tredway, Borden County

I am interested in available information for the Tredway community of Borden Co. Where exactly was it located? Does any part of it still exist? Visited a cemetery in the vicinity a couple of years ago - Plainview - but not sure how close we were to Tredway. (to be honest, we were lost) One set of g-grandparents were buried there (Parker), a great-uncle (Parker), and my maternal grandmother with 2 infant children (Eubanks, daughter-in-law to Parkers). It is my understanding that another g-grandfather was postmaster at Tredway for awhile (James Eubanks). One of my mysteries is where James is buried. I can only assume he was in that area when he died, however no records were located at the courthouses in nearby areas, and he is not in Plainview cemetery. His wife Henrietta outlived him by many years and was buried elsewhere in Texas. Thanks for any help.
Linda

My grandmother Avie Lola McArthur was born in Gail TX December 21, 1893. Her father was a cattleman, Benjamin Franklin McArthur and his wife was Lula Braddock. She and her two sisters were born in Gail. Ona Elizabeth was born August 4, 1892 and Flora was born October 5, 1895. Flora died between 1896 and 1897 in Gail. I don't know where she is buried. A brother, Vernon McArthur was born on October 20, 1897. I don't know if he was born in Gail. He may have been born in Zephyr, Brown, TX. By October 2, 1906 the family had moved to Ardmore OK where B.F. McArthur died.
I would be interested to know anything about this family while they were in Borden County. My grandmother's family were all Methodist if that helps. B.F. McArthur had a cattle brand, I saw it once, but have not been able to find it again.

His widow, Penelope, is said to have died in Borden County, Texas in 1910. She may have gone to Texas with some of her children. Just thought that there might be descendants still living in Borden County today.

I am looking for any information on Waverly Nathan Coates married to Alnetta Simpson. I believe they were married on Dec. 30 1891 in Callahan County, Texas. I don't have a lot of information on them. Alnetta was born about 1867 in August. Waverly was born about 1850. He was the son of Waverly Pickney Coates. Both are believed to have been born in Mississippi. But moved to Callahan County. They had a total of 11 kids, that I have record of. One being William Thomas Coates, which is my Grandfather. William Thomas was said to have been born in Gail, Borden County Texas. I am assuming that Waverly and Alnetta moved from Callahan to Borden County. William Thomas Coates married Ellen E. Eaton. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Mel
Magnatude@sbcglobal.net

I purchased a book a few years back called "Borden County Texas The First Hundred Years" which has stories about many of the families in the area - some dating back to the early 1900s. Book is dedicated to Sid Reeder 1906-1963.

The Borden County Museum address is on this site so you may be able to find an address to write to ask about the book.

Will be happy to look up any names requested.

Thank you.

I am looking for any information on the Standifer family that lived in Borden County in 1930, they are listed in the 1930 Census---Burt 45--Angie 48 -Charley 19. the census shows that Burt and Angie had only been married for 2 years, so this would mean Charley was a child from a previous marriage of Burt's.
Burt and Angie are buried in the Hermleigh Cemetery in Hermliegh Texas, Burts death certificate shows he died in Loraine Texas and resided in Comanche Texas.
Burt died 12 June 1966 and Angie died 15 Mar 1872.
Any information would be a great help.
Thank you

Some of the markers in the schoolhouse cemetery have been removed or stolen but the new one for my gg-gmor remains. It is a shame that so little remains in Borden County that mark the settlement of our ancestor. The schoolhouse was being used for County Storage when I saw it last in 1987. E-mail me for a biography on Sarah Elizabeth Crouch Hull, David Hull, and her family. I have a new address.

Borden County Museum
The Gilmer Davis family believes that a set of spurs were sent to the Borden County Museum. The Davis family lived about four miles south of the Murphy School in southeast Borden Co. My father, Wright Huddleston gave (loaned) these spurs to Gilmer in perhaps the 1930's. The Huddlestons farmed at Knapp in southwest Scurry Co. These spurs had big spanish rowells with the arbor hole filed out so they would lock. Wright used them breaking horses in 1917-25.
