I am looking for information about my great-great aunt, born Marie Thelma Grand in New York City 1910 and died Sept 1992 in Bexar County. May have last lived in Grey Forest, Texas.
A quick check by Bexar County officials say there is no death certificate for her there. But SS Death Index leads me to Bexar County. Plus, she married Paul Donnell Harrison in August of 1984. He was living in San Antonio at the time.
I specifically would like to know any information about Marie Thelma Grand Hamilton Harrison's daughter, Jacqueline Hamilton, born in New York I think the 1930's.

(I believe my grandmother, Esther Campbell Brown, was the grandaughter? daughter? of one of the children of Smith and Curbelo). I know a little about my San Antonio relations but not much and have been looking on the internet to find out more. My mother talks about her cousin Helen? having written a geneology which she offered to have me peruse but couldn't find when we went to look for it. As mom gets older, I would like to really know where I come from so I can let my daughter and her children (as they come) know.
Thanks so much,
Suzanne Scala

Adam Fischer Sr. and Miller Descendants

I am trying to find out information about the half-brothers and sisters in the Adam Fischer Sr. (1844-1925) family. I think his first wife's name was Marie UNKNOWN. They immigrated from Germany in 1868. They had several children, one was named Gustav Adolph and another was named Herman (1900 Bexar County Census). The only one I could track down was Gustav Adolph Fischer (he died in 1945 and was a draftsman for the city of San Antnio for 37 years). Another child in the family was Mollie Fischer, mother unknown-she never married.
Gustav Fischer had two daughters: Anabelle & Lillian. Lillian married a Charles L. Miller. They had at least two children: Maria Antoinette and Chalres A. Miller. There were just too many Millers to try and trace them down past this. If anyone has any information on these families I would greatly appreciate it.
Adam Fischer Sr's second wife was Adella Jonas and they married in Bexar County in 1883. They also had several children. Adam Frank, Richard, Ida, and Adella. This family I have plenty of information on because of the Jonas connection. However I am mostly interested in finding out information on the descendants of his first wife and whatever happened to them all-- other than Gustav.
I may have inherited an old photo of Adam and Adella Jonas Fischer and would like to try and identify them. I inherited all the old photos of the family of Karl/Charles Jonas who was Adella's father. I am from the Frank Jonas family who was a brother to Adella.
I can be reached directly at guineamamma79@yahoo.com.
Thanks,
Linda Jonas Mullen

I am trying to locate a contact from the Alvin H. Walter family to help in identification of an old photo that may be his grandparents: Otto (1863-1891) & Alma Jonas Schaefer Arnold (1867-1929)from New Braunfels. They married in 1886 in Hortontown. Otto died in 1891 and then Alma remarried to Albert Arnold. Her and Otto had one daughter Lillie Schaefer who married a Richard Walter in 1907 and they had at least one son: Alvin Helmuth Walter who was born in 1921 in Bexar County. I have a photo of Alma, Lillie, and her second husband and Arnold children. I am fairly certain that one of the wedding photos that I inherited through the Karl Jonas family is Otto and Alma Jonas Schaefer taken in 1886 for their wedding photo.
My hope is that Lillie Schaefer Walter also inherited a similar photo from her mother and that the photo has remained and has also been passed down through the generations. I can be contacted directly at guineamamma79@yahoo.com.

Alex L. Allen b. ca 1911, d. after 1976, need abstract of death certificate or oh joy, an obit

Dear Kind Volunteer,
I have traced Alex L. Allen b. ca 1911 to San Antonio. In the 1920 census he is 9, in the 1930, 19 working as a hotel bell boy in San Antonio. His brother Jesse F. Allen of Burnet died in 1976 and that obit says Alex was living in San Antonio. A relative also visited him in a nursing home there. I am assuming a death in Bexar Co. His parents were John Lovic Allen and Anna May Wilson. Alex was probably born in Wilson Co., TX but could have been born in Jeff Davis Co. as that is where he shows up in the 1920 census. Would anyone be willing to check available death records so I can determie a death date to get an obit? Many, many thanks for considering this for me.

I have learned through death certs, census and other sources that his DOB was 8/24/1863 and hers was approximately 11/10/1870 LDS has it as 10/6/1870--she was adopted by the de los Reyes home around the LDS date her christening was 11/15/1870 San Fernando.

MEDINA / ROBLEDO:of Tarrant Co, Texas.
Both Maria Medina and Gilberto Medina are listed on the 1910 census for Duval Co, Texas. Living in the home of their grandfather MANUEL GARZA DIAZ.
I would appreciate any information or assistances concerning Gilberto Medina or Benito G. Diaz.
Georgia McCrary

Obits for Cornelius H. Allen d. 6 Jan. 1985; Percy R. Busby d. 16 Jan. 1961

I would like to have 2 obits from San Antonio papers:

Cornelius H. Allen born Texas, 1888 and lived south of San Antonio in Pleasanton. Married to, first, Ida and children, C.H. Jr. and Ida Pearl. There was a 2nd wife and child. Texas death index says died Bexar County. I am hoping there might be an obit in the San Antonio paper.

Also, if you have time, Percy R. Busby died 16 January 1961; I think there is an article in the 18 Jan 1961 "San Antonio Express" page 13 of 18; couldn't bring up the article on Ancestry.

Many thanks for any help!

I'm looking for an 1870 census listing for Nathaniel Milburn Newton (b. 1842, Alabama). I'm fairly certain he lived in either Gonzalez or Guadalupe County in Texas at the time of the census. He lived his entire adult life in that part of Texas since emigrating with his family from Alabama in the 1850's. He had just married in 1868 to Ella J. Davidson (b. 1849, MS) and had one child (Susan Melinda b. 1869 in Bexar, TX). Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance.

Some folks say the bodies are still there and others believe the bodies were removed and reinterred at San Fernando Cemetery #1. If they were removed, does anyone know the date and has anyone ever located a newspaper article about such a move? Thanks for any help.

Regarding the oldest "San Fernando Cemetery":

The very first Catholic cemetery in old San Antonio was within the grounds of the Alamo compound, where the Post Office Building is now. Next there was a San Fernando cemetery, maybe the same as "Campo Santo Cemetery." Bodies buried here may or may not have been removed from this area for the construction of Santa Rosa Hospital.

There is also now existing San Fernando No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3. Best place to find exact locations are the maps on FindAGrave.com. Please search for "Old Campo Santo Cemetery" in this Bexar County Message Board to find all the information I have turned up so far.

He was born abt 1893 in Indiana. Lillie his wife was born abt 1896 in Texas where I think they met.

Both Andrew and his father George were listed as Machinist on different Census.

I have found Anderw in the 1910 - Kenedy, Karnes, Texas with his parents and sister, Florence Westmeyer and with his wife Lillie in the 1920 - San Antonio Ward 7, Bexar, Texas and 1930 - San Antonio, Bexar, Texas Census.

I would love to know more about these people as I'm hoping to prove that Andrew's father, George Westmeyer is the 1/2 brother of my Great Grandmother Frances Renesch of Cincinnati, Ohio.

Thank you

Dear Volunteer,
Found a "person of interest" in the Texas Death Index: Eliga A. Satterfield died 15 Aug 1921, Certificate No. 21420. I am looking for an Elizabeth Amanda Satterfield and feel the "g" might be a "z". Elizabeth Amanda died after 1920 so this seems pretty close. Would you have time to get a synopsis of death certificate? Perhaps from that I can tell if an obit would be good to pursue. Again, many thanks for all you do!

George Thomas Howard, of whom William E. Howard III wrote in your August 2002 Ancestry web posting, was my Great Great Grandfather. His daughter Isabel (Belle) Howard married Willis Green Edwards at St. Marks Episcopal Church, San Antonio. Their names are on a plaque in the narthex of St. Marks acknowledging their gift of pews (as I recall). Many of Willis Green and Belle Howard Edwards' descendants reside in Kerr County and San Antonio Texas where we have fond memories of Summers spent with our grandmothers' cottages during the 1930's, 40's, and 50's at a family enclave, Pleasure Hill, on the Guadalupe River between Ingram and Hunt. Willis' brother Frank Mudge Edwards purchased the Pleasure Hill property in July 1911. We Edwards descendants are planning a centennial celebration three years from now. All of the Pleasure Hill is still in family hands, most owned by first and second cousins of mine.
I want to present my 86 year old mother with the birthday present of family history about her maternal line. Her African-American parents, father, Clem Nurse(1888-1920), and mother, Mamie Banks(1896?-1921), died when she was young. I've traced Clem nurse to a Charles(b.1858?-1915) and Mary Nurse(1862-1919) but I need some hints about the Banks maternal line.

Bartholomeo Obriotti & Catarina de Cresto & Lina Obriotti Rodriguez

I am looking for information on Bartholomeo Obriotti (first and last names spelled variously) born abt. 1853 in Italy and his wife Catarina de Cresto born in Italy and their children who were born in Bexar Co. TX. I want to know where they came from in Italy and to confirm that they were the parents of Lina Obriotti Rodriguez who was born about 1882 in Texas and died on 21 Dec 1942 in San Antonio, Bexar, Texas.

The San Antonio City directories from 1891-94 list Bartholomeo as either having a saloon and grocery or just having a grocery. He lived at 1143 Laredo.

Per the 1900 Federal Census he still lived at 1143 Laredo, came to the US in 1881, was a widower and was a merchant. I do not know if he and Catarina were married in Italy or in the US. But Catarina had died by the 1900 census day. A Teresa Alberto (Ancestry reads it as Alberts) living with the family was a sister-in-law to Bartholomeo and a clerk in a store. She was born in Italy but no date of entering the US is given

I have not found Bartholomeo or Catarina in Ancestry's immigration records. I am not familiar with Italian immigration patterns to Texas so do not know what ports Italian immigrants in the 1880s used to get to Texas or if many went through Canada.

In the LDS IGI index I have found baptismal records for two of Bartholomeo and Catarina's children, Madalena Lina b. 1 Feb 1882 San Antonio Bexar TX and bapt. 22 Jan 1884 at St. Fernando's RCC, San Antonio, Bexar, TX and Domenico b. 5 Oct 1893 San Antonio, Bexar, TX and bapt. 25 Nov 1893.

The census never shows Madalena Lina living with the family. She might be the Lina Obriotti who married a Jose Rodriguez in about 1898 at age 16. The Obriotti family listed in the 1900 census was: Barthe Obnitta 47 head, Joe Obnitta son 16, Neo Obnitta son 14, Louie Obnitta, son 12, Johnnie Obnitta son 10, Treasas Obnitta daughter 8, Dannie Obnitta son 6 and Tessa Alberto (or Alberts) sister-in-law 27.

I do not find Bartholomeo in the 1910 census. At 108 Lopez we find Joe Obriotti head, 26, salesman wholesale grocer, Ned (Nat?)Obriotti brother 23, bottler at brewery, Louis Obriotti brother 21, salesman store , John Obriotti, brother, 19, salesman store, Domenica Obriotti, brother 17, no occupation given and Eugene Artzt, boarder, 26 a musician in a band.

I'm researching my husband's grandfather, Pablo Trevino (1896-1961) and just realized he was baptized in San Francisco de la Espada, one of the mission churches.

I have a certificate of baptism from 1957 stating his baptism was in 1896 by Fr. Bouchu. It lists Pablo's parents, and his sponsors. And also where to find the info in the baptismal records, vol, page, no.

I want to find out more about Pablo's parents, about which I know almost nothing except their names, Cayetano (Caietano) and Grabiela Trevino. I think this might have been their home church.

What kinds of records does the diocese hold on these churches? Would I be able to search parishioners lists for the mid to late 1800s? Or search for the baptisms of Pablo's siblings? Or maybe even his parents. I am able to travel to San Antonio to go through records myself, or if anyone has a contact I can go through first.

Cordelia Hyatt Myers Vickroy d. 1897 San Antonio, Texas

I am searching for any information on Cordelia Hyatt Myers Vickroy, who seems to have died on March 24, 1897 in San Antonio, Texas. I am researching her husband's family and she might have been his second wife. I am confused over why she ended up in Texas (if she did) and where her purported daughter, Helen, was! What I know is very limited and is not confirmed except through information on familysearch.com. It appears that Cordelia married Thomas R. Vickroy in St. Louis, Missouri in March 1889. Cordelia was born Apr 1861 in St. Louis, Missouri. I do not show her in any census records after her marriage to Thomas since the 1890 census was mostly lost and by the 1900 census she had apparently died in Texas (the information I have is that she died in 1897). In the 1900 St. Louis, MO census, Thomas is shown with another wife (maybe #3) by the name of Catherine...who was 26 years old...he was 66. The record on familysearch.com shows that Thomas and Cordelia married and had a daughter by the name of Helen born in 1890...but I never find a record of Helen in any subsequent Census records since Thomas died in 1904.

I have searched all of the available online information and cannot find a marriage and/or divorce in Missouri for Thomas or Cordelia...it could be there..I just can't find it. I can't find a death record in San Antonio for Cordelia under her maiden name or her married name in 1897. If anyone can provide any help...it would be greatly appreciated.
Chunn, Paul marriage record

Looking for marriage record between 1916 and 1918 for Paul Chunn and his bride "Rosie." Assume they married while he was stationed at Camp Staley, TX in Bexar County. Paul Chunn was assigned to Battery E 4th Field Artillery. "Rosie" died on Feb 8th, 1919 at USA Gen. Hospital #15 in Corpus Christi about three weeks following the birth of their only daughter, Ruth Chunn. Death certificate on "Rosie" list no maiden name, only that she was 17 years old at time of her death from Influenza and Broncho Pneumonia.
Requested records from National Personel Records Center for Military Personnel in St. Louis but their response was that a fire destroyed the major portion of records for the period 1912 through 1959. I am seeking to identify "Rosie" b. abt. 1902 probably in Texas through a marriage record to Paul Chunn, hopefully kept at Bexar County. Would appreciate hearing from anyone with other suggestions. Many thanks in advance for your time.
