Thank you for the reply. Since I posted this message, I have traveled to San Antonio for research. I spent some time in the DTR Library at the Alamo researching some old newspaper articles, surveys, etc. Based on these and the dates & locations of the cemeteries, including Campo se Santos..., I believe that my ancestor, Joseph L. Hood was most likely buried in the protestant cemetery outside the wall of the Cathedral...many of these graves were buried under Milam Park, the street and the hospital across the street. SO...I think this is my dead-end for locating him.
I am looking for my Grandmother's Garza line. Her name was Angelita Garza Trevino, She was born 31 Julio 1874 in Hidalgo, TX & died 14 Sept. 1947, in Edcouch, TX, death certificate #38680, Hidalgo County TX, Edcouch Prec. # 5.
Her parents are listed on her death certificate as Antonio Garza and Isabel Castillo, born in Hidalgo TX, but it was probably Mexico. Angelita's tombstone is behind my grandfathers, Julio Julian Trevino, he was born April 16, 1873, (Mexico) he died May 14, 1957 Edcouch, TX, where they lived. His death certif. # 32264, Hidalgo County Texas, Edcouch Prec. # 5. both are buried in Edcouch cemetery, Anahuac. Family members said that Antonio's father was Diego de la Garza born abt.1802 & mother Monica Flores, born abt. 1803 they lived in El Capote Ranch, This is where I have hit a brick wall!!
FYI: (My parents Jesus Trevino, born 11 Feb 1911, Runge, TX & Matilde (Garza-maternal) Salinas Trevino, moved to Washington in 1955, from Texas where they owned land, & ran businesses. Both are now deceased.) If you need any further information etc. please let me know. Also, I have been working on my father’s (Jesus Trevino) family tree in Ancestry, so that might help also. I have copies of Death Certif. of Gertrudez Garza & Juanita Garza, both daughters’ of Antonio Garza & Isabel Castillo, they are Angelita’s sisters’.
I also have a copy of the Death Certif. of Maria Antonia Garza de Cantu who is the daughter of Diego Garza & Monica Flores, this is the end of my brick wall!
I tried to find my grandparents funeral records from Santos, David- L & I funeral Home, 201 N Broadway St, Elsa TX for Angelita & Julio Trevino for 1947 & 1957 but the funeral home only had records for 3 yrs prior. They said they bought an empty building & I called Thomae Garza, the previous owner who said he left records in building? I am hoping that someone kept these records, possibly a genealogy society, library, etc.? If you can be of any help, I will greatly appreciate it.
Sincerely, Roberto Trevino

For more info on early Bexar Counnty cemeteries, search this message Board, Bexar County, TX, for "Campo Santo." The first cemetery was probably within the grounds of Mission, now known as The Alamo. Campo Santo was west of there, north/south of Houston Street around the San Fernando Cathedral, then came San Fernando #1, #2 and #3.

Also search the Atlas for The Texas Historical Commission athttp://atlas.thc.state.tx.us/shell-kword.htm, and the
the San Antonio Genealogical & Historical Society at
http://www.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~txsaghs2/Pages/Library-Hol... . The SAGHGS have transcribed & published cemetery records and do research.

A kind volunteer from wwww.FindAGrave.com researched the Moravietz grave for me. She reports the office for San Fernando cemeteries is at SF#2. The staff there suggested San Jose Burial as some of the downtown graves were moved there but that conflicts with other info. See below for addresses, & FindAGrave.com for maps and name searches, etc.

A previous post stated: "...Catholic portion of the Campo Santo was actually the part of the cemetery north of today's Houston Street. It was located under the most southern part of the present day Santa Rosa Hospital. The portion of the Campo Santo located south of Houston St. is the old Protestant Cemetery...as the Santa Rosa Hospital was being built (as improvements were being added...the excavated bodies would be moved to San Fernando Cemetery #1. But that most recently, any excavated bodies are now being re-interred at San Fernando Cemetery #2."

The Cathedral of San Fernando is located on Main and Dolorosa, some distance west of the Alamo and west of the SA River. One/two blocks further west is Santa Rosa Medical, north side of Houston St., and Milam Park on the south side of Houston, just inside HY 35/10.

This is the site of the old old Campo Santo de San Fernando, predecessor of San Feranando #1 at 1100 South Colorado, based on: "The City Cemetery and Catholic Cemetery were located at today’s Milam Park and Santa Rosa Hospital, respectively. In the 1850s, City Council announced that all bodies would be removed and moved to a new cemetery."

If you have further information on this subject, please post it on the message board.
I was just talking to my mom (age 76). We are all living in California now. However, my mom grew up in San Antonio Texas. She has been looking for her cousin and wondering what became of him. His name is (was?) Oscar Florez, Oscar would be around the same age as my mother (76). We believe Oscars parents were Amado Florez and Mary Ruiz. My mothers name is Zulema Picaso. She also used the name Sulema and Sue.

If you have any information regarding this Florez Family please contact me.
All you need to do is go to 'search' then click on the state you are looking for; scroll down to the newspaper section (close to the bottom) and there will be a list of the states newspapers. Sometimes you get lucky and find who or what you are looking for quickly and then most of the time it takes some searching becasue it brings up all dates that has that name or any part of the name. Try it out and if I can help again my e mail is katybug9@sbcglobal.net
Good luck in your research,
Katy

Hi Jessie. I have a similar problem. My grandmother and her brothers and sisters were Wrights. Their father William Barnett Wright was from Sherman, Grayson County, Texas. I just wonder if his family may have been from your area. He was born in 1882 and died in 1934. All my grandmothers brothers and sisters and her are dead, they were all born from 1914 to 1928, there were 6 of them. Agnes Elizabeth, Henry Edward, Earl, Inez Marie, William Barnett Jr, and Lucille Margarite. Anyhow, just thought I would respond and see if there was any connection. Thanks.

Looking forward to the final conclusion.

"DENVER (Oct. 29) - Police on a cold-case hunt have finally identified a woman whose nude and battered body was found along a Boulder creek 55 years ago. But it's not over — they want to find the killer.
She was buried under a headstone that read "Jane Doe" and remained anonymous until a DNA test revealed that she was Dorothy Gay Howard of Phoenix, officials announced Wednesday. Howard had been reported missing in March 1954 when she was 18....."

I've recenlty helped my husband research asylum's for a school project and came across the Southwestern Asylum in the 1920 Census. It doesn't give any information other than the name of the patients at the asylum, where they were born, birth year, their parents birth and on some it gives their job discription before they were committed. Actually, you had a lunacy commission that required 2 doctors and a judge in order to commit someone to an institution. People were committed for something as basic as seizures. There is an excellent website called newspaperarchive.com and you have to subscribe to it, but you can find out a lot about your ancestors on it, just by keying in their names. Any articles with that name will come up. It helped me a lot in my genealogy research.

"Katharine E. Farrand" has been found alive, at age 84, in Australia. As it turned out, "Katharine" was an assumed name. She really was Emily Farrand, born 1925, in Virginia. So, there never was a "Katharine E. Farrand" born in Texas, after-all.

Obituary look up please, 1942 WALTERS

I would appreciate it if someone would look up the obituary for James F. WALTERS, that died in San Antonio on December 17, 1942. I found his death record, which gave me a good deal of information. However, I'm trying to find out if he had a son named Clayton T. Walters. James was in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX in 1920 with his wife Lillian and son Clayton. I found James again in Bexar Co. in 1930 with a wife named Pearl. His son was already married and living in Jim Hogg Co. in 1930. I believe that the James in 1920 and 1930 are the same one, but I need a little more proof. I tried to get onto the Bexar Co. Library site to ask for help, but their site doesn't seem to be working very good today. Thank you in advance for your help.
Name: James F. Walters
Death Date: 17 Dec 1942
Death County: Bexar

From what I know is speculation for now.I found a person name Jose Ysabel Rodriguez having same parents as my greatgrand parent Doroteo Rodriguez and Rumualda Villegas, who was born in San Pedro De Las Colonias in 1895. Also note that the death certifecate of an grand uncle state that Rumalda Villegas was born in Las Flor, Mexico. I think it is close to San Pedro delas Colonias and you also mention Torreon. Also note the parents of Doroteo Rodriguez are Fabien Rodriguez and Juana Peres. My Great grandfather came into Texas through Del Rio had a daughter in 1898, in Ulvalde had 2 son 1899 and 1901 and ended up in Schummaville, texas between New Braunfels and Seguin, Texas.
Hope this help.
Dago Rodriguez

Did your Rodriguez family ever live in Atascosa County south/SW of San Antonio and do you know if they emigrated from Mexico from the state of Durango?
I'm inquiring because I have Rodriguez in my family tree and am seeking connections to the ones in Atascosa County (some who might have moved to Bexar County)...
Thank you.

Based on a Ohio Death Certificate I see a Elizabeth Decot, born Perry Co. OH on Dec 10, 1864 and died Perry Co. OH on June 4, 1928. Father: Lawrence Downey born Ireland, Mother: Margaret Tahan born in Ireland. Husband and Informant was a Frank Decot. She is buried in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Also see a DC for a daughter named Mary Margaret Decot Studer, born Jul 31, 1903 Perry Co. and died Feb 28, 1953 in Zanesville, Muskigum Co. OH. also buried in St. Joesph's Cemetery.

Just wondering why the posting down here in Bexar Co. as it appears the family lived and died in Perry Co. Ohio.

Anyway hope this is of some help to you.

Thanks .... RAOGKJim
