Thanks so much for responding. Yes, we have tried several times searching records at the courthouse. As I mentioned in my earlier email, the only document any of us have come across is their marriage license, and some census records show her as part of the Tomas LeRoy Goins household.

After his death, we are not able to find anything else about her. It is thought that she may have moved away from Atascosa County. My mother did not speak often of her, so I have no knowledge of her mother's side of the family. Any information will be appreciated.

Many thanks.

Hi, I will ask my relatives in Floresville if they know anything about my great grandfather's Pedro Sendejo's family history. I do know that so many of the older relatives are now deceased. If you could find a birth or death certificate at the court house or information from the local church. The church keeps records of all baptisms, burials and location of graves. Good luck to you. Rebecca Rocha

Hi Rebecca,

I would love to get information regarding anything about the Sendejo's. My mother's mother, "Irene, Yrena, or Irene Sendejo;" however, i never have been able to find anything other than her marriage record. What happened to her, where she's buried. All we know is that she was married to L. Goins, and resided in Atascosa county, I'm not sure if it was Pleasanton, Jourdanton, or Poteet.

I hope to hear from you.

My personal email: txlydia1@gmail.com

I am a descendant of Gregorio Esparza. My family actually has a book of relatives dating back much further than his parents and showing they're ancestors deriving from Spain (I believe, since I have not seen the book in some time) somewhere near the Basque area. We also have Salinas lines (from my grandmother) as well as Perez. The others I cannot for the life of me remember. Would love to see what else you have found!

George,

Correct those were Victor Esparza's children with his first wife. I have no further information on them nor do I know if Victor & 1st wife had more children. They were baptized at San Fernando Church. If I had more time I'd research the San Antonio Public Library for further records to see if they died or when Francisa Barrigan Esparza died but my time is limited for the next months.

Nancy

Hi George,

Victor Esparza married two times. As far as I could find in the San Fernando Church Baptisms, he had children with his 1st wife, Francisca Barragon not his 2nd wife Martina de los Santos.

Jesus was not the son of Victor Esparza & Martina de los Santos. Jesus Ramon was son of Martina de los Santos & her first husband ??? Ramon.

Look at my posting to Kathleen Ramon, the census for Victor Esparza & 2nd wife Martina de los Santos are listed for 1900 & 1910. She was married 2 times as was Victor Esparza.

As far as I can tell, Jesus F. Ramon was not the son of Victor Esparza, he was the step son according to the 1910 census.

Would like to have descendants contact me who are related to or anyone who has information about the following: Estanislado Reyes, Procopio Reyes, Pedro Reyes, for example -- I believe they are part of my extended family... My grandfather was buried in 1931 at St Joseph Cemetery outside of Leming, Texas...
He had relatives in places such as Pleasanton, Jourdanton, Charlotte, Von Ormy, Poteet, Three Rivers, Campbellton, McCoy, for example, but when he died the family moved away and contact with the rest of his family was lost... He was originally from the state of Durango in Mexico, and prior to coming to Atascosa County he lived also in Torreon, MOnterrey, Lerdo, Gomez Palacio in Mexico..
Would welcome any responses that might bring me into contact with families that might have connection to my grandfather's and mother's family.
Thank you for reading this and hopefully I will get a response so that I might be able to reconstruct my extended family tree.
Ed

Hi Mary, I posted this inquiry in 2007, it is a long time ago, and since Leal is not in my family line, I guess I was helping someone. I help people with their searches. Are you looking for descendents of your ancestors? I can help you there, I think, as my neighber is a Charo. I have research that for her. She is currently in Chicago, they have a home here in Pearsall and one in Chicago to escape our weather here. So, if you still want me to help you, could you please email me to my em address. I seldom answer my ancestry. com website. Have to tried to buy buy your father's birthday certificate? you can call the county clerk house in the county where he was born. It is LaSalle Co. if he was born in Cotulla.

Maria

My grandparents were a product of situation. My grandmother's mother died young and my grandfather's mother took her in, and well, they ended up married later on. The main reason for my research is I'm having genetic testing done on my son, so tracing the heritage back and any traces of genetic abnormalities if I can find them is important.... :)

I'm feeling you! My father moved five miles from his ancestral home so that his children would not be attracted to cousins. Doesn't seem very far but we never had automobiles for any length of time. That worked for my family but those who stayed in the ancestral county had few choices for mates. The Native Americans recognized the need for "new blood" and captured females and young children to assimilate into the tribe. Some members of tribes even moved far away and started their own branches. Over time, they lost contact with their brethen and even made war on each other. The Comanches are a classical example. They sprang from the Shoshones who derived from the Utes. The Comanches made war on the Utes, Demiutes, Shoshones, Apaches, and anyone else who stood in their way.

I grew up down there, actually, our family stayed in the area of Atascosa/Medina county all their lives. Most my family is still in the area.

Yeah, well, things get interesting when the Shillings come into play. The Kays married into the Shillings, and the Goslins married into the shillings and my grandmother (Kay) married my grandfather (Goslin), which they were first cousins.

Hrm, solving these old family mysteries is fun and interesting that's for sure! Thanks!
You may also be helped by a county map of Texas? Atascosa is south of Bexar (San Antonio) County. William's father was a boarder in the home of Theodore T. Knight age 40 of New York, but residing 1880 TX-Bexar-Not Stated-021-Image 12. His data is consistent with birth in Mississippi, father in Pennsylvania, and mom in Mississippi. The 1880 location of Margarite "Maggie" E. Shilling's future husband is a mystery. She's found with parents/siblings 1900 Atascosa-Precinct 2-District 4-Image 13. http://texas.hometownlocator.com/maps/statecountymap.cfm

That would be why I'm running into so many problems, there are a lot of William Kays and they seem to be circling back, a lot of the trees have my grandmother's brother listed as her father (dates are wrong), but I'll see if I can get that record for myself. Thank you, at least I have a state to go to, Mississippi rather than OK...

You have not answered my questions.

If he lived in IT [Indian Terr] he was not counted.
General Information – 1880 census
Colorado was the only state admitted to the Union between 1870 and 1880, bringing the total to 38 states. Eight territories were enumerated: Arizona, Dakota, Idaho, Montana, New Mexico, Utah, Washington and Wyoming territories. Unorganized Alaska was enumerated, but the "Indian Territory" was not enumerated for non-Indians. Unlike any previous censuses, after microfilming, the original 1880 census schedules for several states were transferred from the National Archives to various state archives, state libraries, or universities libraries. Only the original 1880 schedules for Pennsylvania remain at the National Archives. Several originals were later transferred to the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution in Washington, D.C.
Even on here there is nothing (I don't have a subscription but have a friend who did some research that does). There are family stories that he was from OK, but other than the 1910 census I found on another site, I can't find anything.
