Searching for information of my great uncle Lee Thomas and Oscar Edward Bell, my great grandfather.My gg grandmother ,Ida Bell{Maiden name Musick} died giving birth to third child in about 1889. My gg grandfather Lemuel Bell,moved to Newton Arkansas shortly after with the two boys . Don't know what happened to my gg grandfather but the two boys were adopted out. Lee Thomas , going by the name Thomas bell was adopted by the Cook family. Samuel Cook was a deputy sherriff.
Oscar Edward Bell , going by the name of Ed Or Edward Bell was adopted by the Henderson family in the same county.
Don't know what happened to the baby If anyone has any information on any of the children or the families that adopted them ,or my gg grandfather, please let me know.would greatly appreciate it.

His brother, Isaac, was born 5 May 1903 in Pennsylvania and died 11 Sep 1998 in Rockport. Both had lived in Detroit and at some point had moved to Texas. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do not know when, but he is suppose to have been buried in Rockport Tx.

I am looking for any information on the murder of John Beasley. The shooting occured between January 29/30th of 1910, while he was assisting the San Patricio County Sheriffs Office in an arrest. The shooting was near the county line. According to the newspapers, John Beasley was the son of S.H. Beasley who had moved to the area about one year before the death. Burial place of THOMAS BENTON WHEELER?

I'm trying see if Thomas Benton Wheeler, the 16th Lt. Governor of Texas is buried in Aransas county. I believe he was living in Aransas County at the time of his death in San Antonio on Feb. 21, 1913. He was the he served as superintendent of the Methodist Sunday school at Aransas Pass for twenty-two years according to his Handbook of Texas biography.

Any assistence in this matter would be greatly appreciated.

James Harvey Benham, b. 1 Jan. 1833, Christian Co. Ky., m. Millie Rankin, 12 Dec. 1865 and died 21 Oct. 1914 in Rockport. It is believed that a brother of James H. Benham lived with the family in the middle 1870's. Can anybody tell me if Will A. Benham, b. 1849, and his wife, Leonora Benham and their children, Cora, Martha, Elmer and W. Lamder lived either with the brother or in the Rockport area. Lander Benham is reported to have been born in Rockport on 9 Oct. 1875. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently received wedding license of my great grandfather, Thomas Lamar Russell who married Sara Jane McBride in 1869. This was obtained from the County Clerk's office in Waco and they were very kind to search their old records and find this.

I have been trying to find a resource for Rockport, TX newspapers from early days of the town (1869) to mid-20th century. I think there was a Rockport Tribune (around 1910), and now there's the Pilot. However, the Aransas County library does not have ANY. Does anyone know where I could find these, perhaps on microfilm? I'm specifically looking for obits from 1897, 1906, 1914, and 1938.

Seeking Info on Deaths - SHELDON, WOLFE

I was recently in Rockport looking for information on ancestors. The Aransas County Courthouse did not have information on several family members, but I thought they had died there. One was Georgiana Sears Arnold Sheldon Wolfe, b. 1828 in Rhode Island, d. 1906. She resided with her son, Benjamin McCullough (B.M.) Sheldon, in Rockport for several years prior to her death. Where would a very ill family member have gone for treatment in those days? Corpus Christi? San Antonio? She is interred in the SHELDON family plot in the Rockport Cemetery, burial date 10-6-1906. The cemetery record did not provide the place of death.

Another mystery is Constance Aileen SHELDON, daughter of Benjamin McCullough Sheldon and Mary Elizabeth Kennedy. According to the inscription on the tombstone, she was born in 1896 and died in 1897. The Aransas Co. courthouse had neither a birth nor a death record for her, and the local Episcopal Church said their records from that time were destroyed by fire. The local library has a cemetery record, saying "B.M. Sheldon baby" was buried 5-19-1897.

Can anyone provide any suggestions of where else I can look for this information?

Harry lived in Rockport (Aransas Co Tx) but may have died in a Corpus Christi hospital. Harry was my daughter's paternal grandfather (her father & I have been divorced for 32 years) and all she has is an email announcing his death.

John CHOATE & Crockett CHOATE buried in Rockport Cemetary, Rockport, Aransas Co., TX

Visiting Rockport, TX, I decided to visit the Rockport cemetary. While there I photographed several of the older, more interesting headstones and graves. My purpose is
to share these photos with researchers for non-commercial, personal and family research purposes.

Two of those graves were those of John CHOATE and Crockett CHOATE.

"SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF JOHN CHOATE
Who was born in the State of Louisiana
On the 25th day of July A.D. 1818
and was killed at his residence in San Patricio Co. Texas
on the 3rd day of August A.D. 1869"

[Then there is an icon representing the Masons]

Continuing it says:
"A good man and true has gone to his rest.
He was an affectionate husband, a good neighbor, a warm friend and a zealous Mason."

"This simple tribute to his memory was erected by his wife who of all, esteemed him most for his many virtues."

This grave is adjacent to the CROCKETT CHOATE grave

The second grave was that of Crockett Choate. Again there is no headstone. The writing on the top cover of the grave reads:

"SACRED TO THE MEMORY OF CROCKETT CHOATE
Who was born in the State of Texas A.D. 1842 and
was killed at the residence of his cousin in San Patricio Co Texas; on the third day of August A.D. 1869."

Below that was written:

" This tells of a grave by the dashing wave, A fond friens lip that did quiver, Of an eye that's hid by a leaden lid,

I have no connection to this family and it is not one of the families I am researching.

The 1860 Census transcription for Refugio is now complete. Although the names were transcribed as written, I have included current conventional spellings of the name where I was certain. For example, in the census it reads “Allen Herd” and I have added “Heard” in parenthesis so that a “Find” will pick it up. If you see any corrections that need to be made or spellings that need to be added, please contact me.

I am forwarding this to the surrounding counties as well, because of the migration patterns of our ancestors during this time period.

Looking for info on my Ggrandfather who lived in Pt Aransas. He had a lodge at Clines point, currently where Clines landing and the Coast Guard are located. He married Mae M. Allmond on July 29, 1891. The 1919 hurricane wiped out the lodge and they moved to Flour Bluff. Trying to find out where he came from or info on his deed or maps that locate Clines point in Pt Aransas.

I am searching for a 1945 issue of Look magazine. There is a article written on my grandfather Tony Kazmer. He owned and operated a general merchantile store located on Highway 36 N in Caldwell, Texas. There are photos of the Kazmer homestead, Tony pumping gas, my mother Shirley helping her dad sack groceries in the store. M Howard Knox is the gentleman who wrote the article.

Interested in W.A. Daniel, who was pastor of the First Baptist Church in Aransas Pass in Nov 1915. His wife was Ada Hanna Muse. Her mother was Eva Grimes who married James Muse and they lived in Cleburne (Johnson County).

They probably only lived in Aransas Pass for a few years, but thought someone might possible be looking for a connection as well.

Rose McCauley, 52, passed away Aug. 9, 2000. She was born Nov. 5, 1947 in Uniontown, Pennsylvania. She graduated from Cal-State in Pennsylvania with a Bachlor of Science in Education and had worked as a legal secretary. Rose
was an intructional aide at Rockport-Fulton Intermediate School for the past six years. She is survived by her husband, Robert McCauley and a daughter, Gina McCauley both of Rockport, Texas; her brother and sister-in-law, Albert and Nola Petrazzi of Vannellsville, Pennsylvania;
mother-in-law, Leota McCauley of Seadrift, Texas; nieces, Antoinette Woods and her husband, Ed and Kristin Petrazzi, nephew, Alan Petrazzi and great niece, Alexandra Woods, all of Pennsylvania. Memorial services were held Aug. 11 at Charlie Marshall Funeral Home Chapel, Rockport, with John Bald and Burk McNair officiating. Interment was in Live Oak Cemetery in Olgsby, Texas. Expressions of sympathy may be made by donations to Educational Fund for Gina McCauley, First Capitol Bank,!

William Fanklin "Sonny" Miller, 70, passed away July 23, 2000. He was born in Ingleside, Texas on June 17, 1930. sonny was a lifelong resident of the Aransas Pass-Ingleside area, served in the U. S. Army and was a commercial fisherman. He was a good father, loving husband and he had a big heart. He was preceded in death by a son, Edward William"Bubba" Miller. He is survived by his wife, Hazel Miller of Arnasas Pass; two sons David Lynn Miller and Gary Glynn Miller both of Aransas Pass; one daughter and
son-in-law, Marsha and George Herzog of Portland, Texas; one sister Joyce Barnette of Starke, Florida; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Services were held July 25 at the Temple of Praise Church in Aransas Pass with Rev. Bob Jayne officiating. Burial followed at the Prairie View Cemetery, Aransas Pass.

Willie Francis (Whitlow) Kennedy, 94, formerly of Waco, died Aug. 12 in
Dallas, Texas. Mrs. Kennedy lived in Dallas area for the last eight years.
Services were held Aug. 16 at the First United Methodist Church in Waco
with Rev. Steve Ramsdale officiating. Burial was at Waco Memorial Park
beside her beloved husband, Henry C. Kennedy, who preceded her in death
Aug. 12, 1986. Six grandsons served as pallbearers; Ray Kennedy of
Ingleside, Texas; Bobby Kennedy of Portland, Texas; Kerry Kennedy of
Conroe, Texas; Kyle Kennedy of Lake Jackson, Texas and Lance White of
Weston, Florida. Kreg Kennedy of Breckenridge, Colorado served as honorary
pallbearer. Mrs. Kennedy was born April 15, 1906 in Hasse, Comanche County,
Texas. She graduated from the Texas A&M Kingsville with a degree in
Elementary Education. She was school teacher for 25 years in Ingleside,
Texas. Upon her retirement in 1970 she moved to Waco with her husband where
they were members of the First United Methodist Church!
. Surviviors include a sister, Gaye Brown of Granbury, Texas; two sons,
Percy R. Kennedy of Kerrville, Texas and H. Mack Kennedy of Conroe, Texas;
a daughter, Sarah A. White of Irving, Texas; nine grandchildren, 22 great
grandchildren adn six great-great grandchildren. She was a true and loving
matriarch who will be deeply missed by her many loved ones.

Fortin,Jr., of Las Vegas, Nevada; one daughter, carol Brown of Washington;
two granddaughters and special friends, Norm and Betty Killough. A memorial
service was held by friends on Aug. 11 at Oak Crest Nursing Center in
