Other possible links in Rockport Cemetery: Madrid Ballou (27 Dec 1884 - 7 Jul 1914) and Summerville C. Ballou (20 Mar 1888 - 19 Nov 1978). They were Pelway's sister married to brothers, Thomas A. and Albertus Ballou respectively. Their brother, Milan Crowder (18 Nov 1882 - 15 Nov 1931) died in Shackelford. The father, Isaac M. Crowder, listed on Aransas Tax Rolls 1896 so he may also be buried there?

Dovie Evelyn White's death certificate says her cause of death was a gun shot and her death was ruled a homicide. I can find no other mention of the incident and was hoping someone else might have access to this information. Who murdered her and why? Also, where she is buried? She was born Dovie Evelyn Phipps in 1912. Her father was John DeWitt Phipps and her mother was Bessie Mae Kite. She was married to Herbert Louis White. At the time of her death it says she lived in Woodsboro, Refugio, Texas but died in Aransas County. Any help?

I don't think there is an answer to why people commit suicide. Mental problems, stress, bad investments and a multitude of other issues could have been causative. You are probably right with your research rather than oral history....that's like playing the telephone game.

Yes I've seen those records too, misspelling I'm sure accounts for alot of my trouble. I am almost positive my Walter Wright is WS. I found a Mrs WS on a Dallas 1920 census. Both her parents born in Tennessee (this would be true)I believe Walter was working in Seymour, committed suicide, but he and Aunt John were living in Dallas at the time. He was buried in Dallas. This all goes against practically everything I was told. I do not know why he would have committed suicide in 1919 tho.....probably never know the answer to this one.

Of course, she is also listed as male and daughter has been marked out on that one. Records can be misleading. I will stay in touch as I need help or if I find a gem.

I looked up every death certificate for W. S., Walter, and Walter S. Wright who died in the 1929-timeframe. The suicide was by gunshot and he was an oil mill supervisor. Recall viewing death certificate for a "capitalist" aka financier but he died of natural causes. What's my interest? Simply a passion for genealogy and helping others! I believe everyone's history should be documented 'cause we are the fabric of society. Consider this? "In your lifetime, which profession (brain surgeon or plumber) will you value most?" Hopefully you'll need the latter more often than the former? I want to see you or someone complete this history! Click my logon name and you'll find my frequent contributions to successful research.

Found her death certificate. Mrs. W. S. Wright (7 Apr 1877 - 4 May 1942) died in Sulphur Springs of intestinal obstruction. Perhaps a trip to the county courthouse to review her probate will uncover additional info? You are close enough to Dallas to plan a trip to search for Walter S.'s probate.(lol) Why do you hesitate?(lol)

None at all. It's a mystery to me......she is buried here a few miles away from my house as Johnetta Wright, Walter is not listed on the headstone, so I assume he was buried wherever he died. I do know that they were real rich at one point before the crash in 1929.

This has been one of the most frustrating things I've ever involved myself in, in a long time. My mom has a first cousin that remembers "aunt John" coming to live with them, here in Hopkins County after "uncle Walter" killed himself. This particular cousin thinks Walter jumped out of the "Baker Hotel" in Dallas to his death. The cousins that have the newspaper clipping said he jumped out of one in Houston. This is all I know. I sure appreciate the marriage info.

Welcome back. I don't have anything but a name, I'm sorry. I have a 2nd cousin that told another cousin they had the newspaper clipping of Walter Wright's death by suicide, in Houston Texas after the stock market crash in 1929. I've searched and searched and have hit a brick wall every time. I'm sorry. The cousins deny having the clipping to me, so I'm at the end of my trail. I'm sorry. I've taken out subsrcriptions to the Houston newspaper archives and found nothing, so I'm wondering if perhaps he was in another city, such as San Antonio or Corpu Christi , I've not even found a marriage license for he and Johnetta.

Jan: I have been away from research for the past few years and just returned to find that my husband had wiped his hard drive which had all my research on it. Thankfully, I had hard copies so I am now re-inputting that info into FTM and making copies on discs.
I just started doing the Mitchell side of my family this week. I didn't even have Walter Wright listed as the husband of Johnetta Boyett. Would you share what you have on him(them); and I will start digging. Since our earlier contact, I have found what I think is Susan Alabama's correct death date. Let's stay in touch. Thanks.

Hi Alicia, my name is Jan Hollis, if I'm not mistaken we were in contact several years ago about my gggrandfather and grandmothers side of the family EW Boyett and Susan Alabama Mitchell. I was wondering if you have any information on their son in law Walter Wright whom married their daughter Johnetta Boyett? I have only a slight amount of information, such as he committed suicide in 1929 after the "crash". I don't have anymore than that and wondered if you could help? Thanks.

I'm not related to this family.

TX Vital records -
The Texas Vital Statistics law to register births and deaths was not passed until 1903. Texas was then and is now a dual registration state which means the local registrars retain a copy of all birth and death records for the events that take place within their jurisdiction and the state retains the original of all birth and death records for the entire State of Texas. However, the statutes for registering these events were not made mandatory until 1926. However, many local registrars did not adhere to the statutes until the late 1930’s or early 1940’s. This means some records reside only in the local registrars’ files and not with the State.

Sherry Crawford
Group Manager
Request Processing
Vital Statistics Unit
(888) 963-7111, ext 6195

TRY - Find a grave – free volunteer site all states; frequently has headstone pic
http://www.worldvitalrecords.com/

TRY -
Vital Records – Marriage, Birth & Death – FREE ALL STATES
http://search.labs.familysearch.org/

well, stranger things have happened and this is what I get for taking someones' word and not checking every shred myself. Robert did NOT die in Mississippi, according to Texas death index he died Feb 24, 1981 in Aransas Texas. SO, I looked at Family Search for his death certificate and his name and dod is there but no image is available. So perhaps I can find something now I know what state to look!
