Borden Family/1900's

Iam curious as to what happened to the Borden family all of whom seem to have disappeared [or changed their names] after the 1900 census and the murder of Phillip Scroggins by Ben Borden.

The 1880 census listed the following:
Borden, Robert 42 Atty Al TN TN
Borden, Ruthy 41 Al TN TN
Borden, Eli D. 21 phyc Al Al Al
Borden, Andrew 15 TX Al Al
Borden, Joseph 13 TX Al Al
Borden, Benjamin 11 TX Al Al
Borden, Virgie 09 TX Al Al
Borden, Sarah 8/12 TX Al Al

The 1900 census listed the following Borden households:
Borden, Mrs. Ruthy 61 Al TN TN
Borden, B. W. 32 Al Al Al
Smith, Joel s-i-l 21 TX MS AL
Smith, Della dau. 20 TX Al Al

Borden, J. M. 34 TX AL AL
Borden, Eliza TX GA TX

Borden, EVA 25,wd TX
Borden, Eli Wheeler 1 TX

All of these people, with the exception of Eliza Grace Wilson Borden, widow of Joseph Borden simply disappear after this census. I read that Joseph Borden was shot and killed in a gun battle in front of a boarding house, by Fred Scroggins, brother of the man murdered by Joseph's brother Ben W. Borden.

Can anyone suggested what happened to Ruth Borden, Eva Borden and her son Eli Wheeler Borden or Sarah Della/Dorah Borden Smith, wife of Joel M. Smith?
I am looking for any information on Lyddy T Bryant. I believe she married John Crutchfield ( son of Ulysses Crutchfied of Pulaski GA ) in 1861. She and John had a son in 1861 John Martin Crutchfield ( My great grandfather). Lyddy seems to have died in 1862 and John Crutchfield remarried afterward to a woman named Johanna. John and Johanna went on to have 2 girls Mary Jane 1872 and Malinda 1873 Crutchfield. I believe that John Crutchfield died in 1873 in Angelina. I do know that John was in the Confederate Army Civil War as his second wife Johanna filed for a pension in the 1900's

I have absolutely no information on Lyddy T Bryant and very limited on John.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Nathan Flory

I am trying to find information about the ancestors and descendants of Jessie DANSBY -- born about 1882 somewhere in Texas.

In 1908, Jesse married Buelah BENTON in Carthage, Texas. Buelah's family was from Panola and Shelby counties and they lived in Shelby county for a while. Jesse worked for the railroad and they moved to Lufkin, Texas sometime before the 1918 draft registration. In 1930, he was enumerated as a roomer in Shreveport while she was at home with their son Jesse Jr. (may have been known as Skeet). They also had a daughter named Gladys who spent some time in Chicago then returned to Texas.

I don't know when Jesse died but Buelah and Jesse Jr. both died in Houston.

Any and all information about this family would be greatly appreciated

Church History and Records book

In 2004, the First Presbyterian Church of Crockett, TX, celebrated is 150th anniversary. As a part of the celebration, the Anniversary Committee proposed a project of copying and transcribing the old church records for publication. As time went on, more and more records and information were discovered, and finally, THE BOOK has gone to the printer – a 3-volume set, hardback, 1760+ pages, every-name indexed. There are registers, pastoral notes, marriages, baptisms, funerals, church minutes, and other records from the First Presbyterian Church and from over 47 small churches, most no longer in existence, in Houston County and surrounding counties. It provides a glimpse into the life of early East Texas, as well documenting many events in the lives of its residents, both Presbyterians and other denominations.
PRESBYTERIANS OF HOUSTON COUNTY AND BEYOND: CHURCH RECORDS AND DOCUMENTS FROM 1838 TO 2004, compiled and edited by Bettie W. Sarver and Rev. Jim Tom Ainsworth, is being printed in a limited quantity and will sell for $165.00 (plus $11.00 shipping, if necessary) per set. For information about the book or about ordering, please contact Bettie Sarver at bwsarver@gmail.com or Jim Ainsworth at jtains@nctv.com.

It was supposed to be located either in or near what is now the Davisville area. My great great great grandfather Wiley Davis was buried there and possibly one of his sons. This may have been a family cemetery.

Richardson/McClure/Thomas Family came to Texas...

My family came from Fairfield County, SC. Thomas Richardson born around 1800, and his wife, Susannah Anderson Richardson, born about 1804.
My understanding is that Thomas and Susannah had the following children:
1) Martha Catherine Richardson, born about 1820, married William Watts Thomas. She died when the family was moving to Texas (Around 1840-maybe sooner). They were going through the Mississippi river, and there was a big catastrophe that struck. I have been told that the ferry they came down on caught on fire, possibly a hurricane. Two stories have said that either both William And Martha died, or that only Martha died. Martha and William had a child: James Henry Francis Thomas, born around 1840 in MS, after his mother and father died, Thomas and Susannah Richardson were left to raise him.
2) Sevella Ann Richardson who married John Fletcher McClure, who is son of Houston and Amy (Ann) Ogilvie McClure.
3) John Franklin Richardson who married Catherine Cassandra (Also spelt Cassander) Draper who was the daughter of John Madison Draper & Mary Wrightsell Draper.
4) Henry Samuel Richardson who married Mary Francis McClure, who is the daughter of Houson and Amy (Ann) Ogilvie McClure.

Does anyone know how or when the family came here? I would like information on any of the above people. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

POW/MIA KOrean War, Angelina Co. SEWELL

I am searching for the family of a soldier who was killed in the Korea War. When he entered service he gave Angelina County , Texas as his home of record.

Soldier: NATHAL SEWELL
Born: October 25, 1920
Date of loss:

When the Korean War ended the enemy never returned or accounted for over 8,000 of our servicemen. They died in their hands. That was over 50 years ago. Since that time DNA has been perfected and also they are recovering remains in North Korea. Our government is obligated to return those remains to the proper family. DNA samples have been obtained from most of the families of these missing soldiers. For various reasons some families have not been located. There are 137 families in Texas that have not been located. There is one family from Angelina County that has not been located.

When the remains are recovered and identified they will be returned to the family for proper burial. I am just an old (77 years) Combat Veteran out of the Korean War and thankful that I did return. I consider this a very noble cause and I hope that you can help in some way to find this family. For more information on the project you may go to http://www.jpac.pacom.mil/. My part in the program is to match up the lost families with the proper agency.

I will be grateful for any assistance in locating this family.

Harold Davis
40th Infantry Division
Korea ’52-‘53
910-791-2333
hgdavis@bellsouth.net
Does anyone have any information on an Abner Green Ray (b. 1867 in Tyler, TX; known as "Green") married to a Martha A. Boykin (b. 1872)? He appears in the US Census in Angelina County for 1900, 1910, and 1920. He is one of the brothers of my great-grandfather; I'm curious to know what happened to his family.

Allen A & Lizzie Hutchens Parrish
Allen A Parrish was born 28 Jan 1891 per his W W I Draft registration card, most likely in Rains county, Texas. The 1900 census gives year of birth as 1890.

Allen and sister Norah Parrish born Aug 1887 are living with their step father Rufe Brown born appx 1862 MS who is widowed in the 1900 Rains county census. Their parents are listed as being from MS and AR.

Their step siblings are Frank 8/1883, Lucy I 9/1885, Nezzie 7/1887 and Bart D Brown 1/1889. Allen and Norah's mother would have been Brown's second wife.

I believe Allen A and Norah were children of Allen Parrish born 1853 MS and Mary unknown born appx 1862 AR and had older sister listed as L. M. Parrish born 1879 in Rains or Wood county in 1880 census.

Allen Parrish born 1853 was the son of James A and Phebe Shelton Parrish of Virginia.

Allen A Parrish married Lizzie Hutchens from Tennessee 21 Feb 1909 in Rains county. Original marriage license in possession of the RGCS. No marriage record found for his sister Norah.

No cemetery or death records for Allen Parrish born 1853 and Mary Parrish who probably married R. Brown but most likely buried in Willow Springs or the Turner Cemetery. The elder Allen Parrish was the brother of James H Parrish of MS settled in Rains county.

In 1906 or 1907 James H Parrish sold his farm property to a Hutchens which I find a Hutchens family in J P 1 of Rains county from TN who arrived in Texas 1893-1897 and another Hutchens family in JP 5.

Allen and Lizzie had four known children; Eunice abt 1910, Fay abt 1913, Elmer abt 1915 and Edward A born 25 May 1919 and died 8 Mar 2002 last residence was Lubbock, Texas.

Edward's birth record filed in Rains county. This Parrish family is not found in 1930 census. The Texas death index shows an Allem A Parrish died 23 Jun 1951 in Angelina county and I suspect he is Allen A Parrish and a Lizzie Parish listed in Angelina deaths 6 Oct 1950.

A Parrish cousin moved to Angelina county from Rains county.

On the 14th of Nov 1945 Edward A Parrish, born 1919, enlisted in the Corp of Engineers, U S Army, in Lubbock, Texas which the record shows he was married at the time.

In 1993 Edward A Parrish married Zada A Andrews born appx 1905 in Lubbock county, public address for 1993, 1994 & 1995 show that Edward A Parrish lived on 9th Street in Lubbock and another record shows 2400 Quaker Ave.

I would like to know if Edward A Parrish had children and what became of his parents and siblings as I have not been able to pinpoint any records other than the possible deaths.

Does anyone know this family ? Will also post to Rains & Lubbock counties.

Thank You - Paula

AUTREY was granted a land patent of 100 acres in Nacogdochs, Angelina County, TX on December 14, 1908, and another of 640 acres on November 5, 1920 in Liberty, Tyler County, Texas. He was a doctor and practiced in Angelina and several surrounding counties. The information regarding his practice and death comes from his registration form with the Texas Medical Association.

Although we have quite a bit of information on Henry (b: 1850 Spotsylvania County, VA), we have found no clue as to who his parents may be.

We've twice requested a death certificate, but both times were told one didn't exist for him.

We're completely stumped. If you're also researching Henry, please reply and let's brainstorm!

Thanks,
Alicia (Goad) Anderson

I have some information on one of my oldest know ancestors who is the Wiley Weeks born in the state of Georgia in 1798 and his wife Delia Weeks (perhaps just his first wife) who was also born in Georgia in the year 1797. This includes their children. My records indicate that he married a second time to a Tabitha Thomas on July 1864 in Many, Louisiana. My records also show that Wiley Weeks was a Methodist Preacher and it is stated that he was buried at Bryans Chapel Cemetery near Burke, Texas.

There is also a Wiley Felix Weeks born Feb. 22, 1830 and married Sarah A. Martin.

I have much more and access to an abundance of information through surviving family members and local documents. i would be interested in any info you may have or may be seeking.

Sincerely,

Jim Wade Weeks

Smith?
I am trying to find out some information for a friend in Texas. As I am located in Pennsylvania, and I have done very little research in Texas, I am asking for some guidance.

Her grandmother's name was Jo or Joe Sheffield. She lived in Lufkin, TX. She first married a Hopkins, then a Croom. I don't know where either of the men were from. She died in Beaumont and may have been buried in Woodville (I'm not sure if that was a town or a cemetery.)

I no longer have a subscription to Ancestry or HeritageQuest, but I tried looking for her on the census on HeritageQuest, but could not find her. My friend is interested in learning her birth and death dates for starters.

Thanks to anyone who can assist.
