Logan / Pigg marriage

I'm looking for any information on a William Logan who married a woman who's surname was Pigg. I have a will and probate lawsuit for a Stephen Pigg, who died in Williamson County, Tennessee. In the will, Stephen Pigg makes bequests to his children, and two sons-in-law. One of the sons-in-law he mentions specifically is William Logan.

Stephen Pigg's children, all born between the years 1791 and 1809 were: Sarah (married to James Skelly), Dicey, (married to James Davis), Elizabeth (married to William Segrest), James, Henderson, Elijah, and Stephen. I have no record of a daughter marrying a William Logan.

The only William Logan I can find in the area at this time is the William Mitchell Logan, born 1801/1802 who moved to Texas and fought for their independence. However, records indicate he was not married.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thomas Benjamin Hertzel

Trying to locate a marriage record for Walter Lee Stephenson b. btw 1871 and 1874 (4 different docs with 4 different years!) and Lillie Mae (Mai) Baker. They were found in the 1900 census in Williamson County Tennessee. Shows 2 as the number of years of present marriage. He was 28 and she was 19 in 1900. This is 2nd marriage for Walter. Gives Tennessee as birth place for both. Thanks for any info you may have!

April (Stephenson) Stewart

Did Jesse really die in Louisiana?

Is there someone that has access to the Williamson County TN court cases that will do a look up? During the 1820s there was a lawsuit over a stolen horse. The horse belonged to Wilson Woodruff and he was trying to reclaim it. I need the abstract of that court case.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Bettye

Emeline Johnson Searcy d/o Benjamin Johnson VA>Williamson, TN

My ggg-gma, Emeline Malone (or R. C.) Johnson, was born 16 Feb 1816 in VA to Benjamin Johnson and ?. Since both Emeline and her daughter Frances Searcy Hutchinson share the middle name Malone, I suspect that she had Malone ancestors at some point.

Emeline married Dr. William Wendel Searcy in Williamson Co. on 30 May 1833. Dr. W. W. Searcy was the son of Col. Robert Searcy (Granville, NC>Nashville) and Elizabeth Wendel. Wm. and Emeline raised their family in Davidson Co., particularly Goodlettsville in 1860.

Emeline died on 3 Oct 1866. She was a "pure Christian woman" and her husband was "staggered by this blow" per his obituary. She was buried in the Johnson Cemetery on the Sam Donald Farm on Sam Donald Road in Wiliamson Co. according to an anonymous entry on the Ancestry World Tree citing the Directory of Williamson County Burials.

I have no info on the Benjamin Johnson family. Should anyone have knowledge about him, I'd most appreciate it! I have info to share on the Searcy ancestors and descendents (their son, William Wendel Searcy II is my gg-gpa).

My mother in law is going to Nashville area next May. She knows her mother's family lived in a home called the John Haley Place in Williamson County TN apprx 1 mile north of Rocky Glade near Pettus Road. The problem is we don't have an exact street address or city. I located some streets with these names near the county line of Willamson & Rutherford County, but couldn't get a city name. Maybe Nashville, maybe Brentwood (but Brentwood is not very near Rutherford county line). The home was in hands of distant cousins till maybe 15 yrs age, so pretty sure it's still standing. She thought it was in national register of historic places but I couldn't google it Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Ambrose MAYFIELD (1745-1826)

I am interested in locating the grave and any other information that may be found in Williamson County for
Ambrose MAYFIELD (1745 VA - 1826 TN)
Ambrose moved to Rutherford County, Tennessee about 1805 from Pendleton District, South Carolina.
In Pendleton he had at least seven sons and one (Jacob) living next door.
With him in Rutherford were his wife, two daughters and five sons at home where he appears in the 1810 census.
He and his son Thomas are living on the E. Fork of the W. Fork of Stones River.
By 1820 I feel that Ambrose is living in Franklin, Williamson County with his son Elijah who is 26 - 45. Ambrose is about 74.
Elijah Mayfield who married Amelia Gillespie in 1818 bonded by Samuel Brooks, lives next door to John and Nancy Brooks Samuel's father.
On Dec 24, 1822, 76 year old Ambrose marries Nancy Brooks, the daughter of John and Nancy. They have a son Samuel Brooks Mayfield in about 1825 and Ambrose dies there in Franklin about 1826.
Now I know it sounds odd that Nancy would marry a 76 year old man, but when Ambrose dies, she turns around and marries Iredell Redding who in 1830 is between 80 & 90. They have two more children!
I am looking for any information that might confirm the names of the missing five or six sons of Ambrose who may have stayed in Williamson County.
Sorry for the long introduction but Ambrose must have left some foot prints in Williamson County. There are several Mayfield's there that Mayfield researchers all seem to claim as sons of others. Nobody claims Ambrose as the father.
Please keep an eye out for Ambrose MAYFIELD.
Thanks,
Tom

Please visit Jacob Mayfield (Ambrose oldest son) and Hamilton ( Jacob's son )Mayfield's web page.
http://www.greatnorthern.net/~thl/hamp/
Lewis b. abt 1874 TN

I've been following them in the censuses, but a few of them disappear. In 1900, Mary's listing says she'd had 7 children, 5 living. Which two died? I can find Joe and Sam almost all the way to 1930 in Franklin, where they were house painters, apparently neither one of them ever married and they lived together all those years. There is a John B. Lewis who worked for the railroad and shows up in Winslow Arizona in 1900 and thereafter in Washington state married to Bert. Is this the right guy? John is the only one I can find in 1910. Where did the rest of them go?

Hopefully,
Robin in Short Pump

I am doing research on the family of Benjamin Jones who settled in Fayette Co, Illinois in 1821.
In the 1810 tax list there is listed a Benjamin Jones in Williamson County, Tennessee. Does anyone have any information on a Benjamin Jones and family? By 1810 Benjamin should have had one son born in 1804. His name is Bowling Jones. Another son was born in 1811. Both sons were born in Tennessee.
Sometime before 1818 the Jones Family moved to Washington County, Illinois.
Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks
Gerald Jones in Illinois

Hello. I saw you site on Thomas Simmons. I have been researching the Simmons out of Humphreys County, Tenn., and I suspect they might be one and the same or else closely related. I am looking for William Simmons b. about 1824, Edward Simmons, b. about 1818, and Salina Simmons, b. about 1816. All these Simmons were born in Virginia according to the census records. In 1830 Humphreys County, Tn. there was a Thomas Simmons and family also. Could be the same one. Maybe we can help each other. Thanks, Martha

Kenny Bradford is the son of James and Lucy Bradford. Kenny was born 1849-1852. I have not been able to find anything on him other than one census. Their daughter, Densmore "Dennie", is listed in an 1880 census living with James and Tildy Hargrove (uncle and aunt). I would like to know if anyone knows ANYTHING about the Bradford's. I am hoping to find a connection somewhere. I thank you in advance!!

Montgomery family of Williamson Co. TN 1800

I am looking for information on the Montgomery family who were in Smith Co. TN then Williamson Co. later in Giles Co. TN. I would like to find out more info on this family to see if they have a Carter or Kennedy connection.
The following is from Don who did research in Salt Lake City recently and formed the following timeline

Robert Carter and John Kennedy both appear on the 1801 tax list for Williamson Co. TN. Robert Carter came from TN to IL in 1817 and settled near Dempsey Kennedy, whose first wife was Sallie Carter, of unconfirmed relationship to Robert Carter. This makes Robert Carter of special interest as a possible co-migrant with Dempsey Kennedy. In SLC I also looked for Robert Carter in the Williamson Co. TN deeds and found that on 17 Jan 1804 he witnessed a deed from William Montgomery of Sumner Co. to Henry Cook for land on the West Harputh River. He witnessed a deed from William Montgomery Sr. of Sumner Co. to Henry Cook on 7 Jan 1805, and he witnessed two other deeds in which Henry Cook was also a witness. So the Montgomery connections (with some county info intermixed) so far are:

1802 - John Kennedy buys Smith Co. TN land from James Montgomery, Dempsey Kennedy is a witness.
1802 - James Montgomery and John Kennedy are both assigned to work under a road overseer in Smith Co. TN.
1803 - John Kennedy of Washington Co. TN buys land on Cane Creek in Williamson Co. TN from Michael Montgomery of Sullivan Co. TN.
1804 - Robert Carter witnessed a deed in Williamson Co. TN from William Montgomery of Sumner Co. to Henry Cook.
1807 - Maury Co. and future Giles Co. area taken from Williamson Co. TN.
1808 - John and Sam Montgomery are first settlers in area of Giles Co. TN at Elk Ridge Church on Robertson's Fork.
1808-9 - John Kennedy is one of the first settlers of the Bradshaw Creek region of Giles Co. TN.
Need Boyd and Moore Cemetery Info

I noticed on the Genweb site that there are two Boyd cemeteries at Leipers Fork and one Moore cemetery there. As I understand it, there is a Boyd cemetery in the front of All Bright Hill with about 45 stones. Given that this is about 5 miles out of Franklin, I'd assume this is Leipers fork. If someone has transcribed these cemeteries, could someone send me the early Boyds, and any Moores in these cemeteries? I'd be very grateful. Also, if a John Echols is there or a Joseph Dodson, I'd like them too. Thank you. Roberta Estes restes@comcast.net

Boyd, Moore, Echols, Anderson, Dodson

I am attempting to find a Moore family in Williamson County, Tn. that was associated with the William Irby Boyd family who lived on the West Harpeth River. Boyd’s mill later built by their son stood about 5 miles west of Franklin. We find William and his wife Margaret Anderson Boyd in the early records. They were married in Halifax Co. Va. in 1800. A John Echols (b 1750-1760) also from Halifax Co. is connected with this family in some capacity, as the Boyds name a son after him, but I’m not sure how he is related.

Margaret’s sister, Elizabeth Anderson, married a Moore who I believe was dead by 1815 when she granted her brother in law William Irby Boyd, her power of attorney to obtain her portion of her father’s estate, Paulin Anderson, for her in Halifax County. There is no husband who signs, so I’m assuming she is widowed by that time. Later in 1815, William I. Boyd signs as security for an Elizabeth Moore to marry a James Hailey (Haley) and I later find a James Hailey beside a James Moore in Davidson County in the census, although I don’t know if this is connected.

In the 1820 census, a William Moore lives only 4 houses from William I. Boyd, but he appears to be too old to be Elizabeth Anderson Moore’s son. He is age 26-45 and had 3 children age 16-26, so he would have to be at least age 40. William Boyd is the same age, and we know his wife was born probably slightly before 1780, so he was probably born about 1775, an age that fits the census numbers. So this William is likely connected to this family, but probably not the son of Elizabeth Anderson Moore.

I have extracted as many early records as I could find in order to attempt to discover the identity of Elizabeth Anderson Moore’s husband. I have not been able to do so, but I have discovered quite a bit about the Moores of Williamson County and I’m hopeful that perhaps someone else has more info that they could help me with. I have grouped the Moores.

Group 1
James and Catherine Moore die in 1805 and 1806. Other names associated with this family are Henry, Alexander, John, Betsy, and James Jr (who died in 1815). They live on Murfees Creek of Big Harpeth. Other neighbor names associated are Akin and McCollister.

Group 2
Moses Moore from South Carolina. He arrives about 1810 and is dead by 1817. His orphans are Eastin (or Easter) and Amos.

Group 3
A Carey H. Moore and David A Moore both marry Ashlin daughters in the 1820s. Abram White is bondsman.

Group 4
A James, Joseph and Ephriam arrive about 1809 and are there through at least 1813. James owns land on Little Harpeth.

Group 5

John Moore’s heirs are noted as taxpayers in 1807 with 200 acres on Duck River, but this is not the John in group 1 as John who owns land on Murfees Ck continues among the living on the tax lists. John Moore is noted as admin with Akin and White as securities, causing some suspicion of a connection with group 1 in some capacity. In 1813 Joseph is shown owning land on Flat Ck. In 1816 a Joseph Moore of Maury Co sells land on Duck Creek. These may or may not be connected. In 1807 a Thomas Berry is appointed guardian for Elizabeth and William Moore. Again, this may not be connected to John’s death, but I find no other death at this time.

Two Johns are in the county early, from 1804-1808. The second John does not appear on the tax list after than. The second John does not appear to own land.

Group 6
Samuel and his wife Polly Moore own land adjacent to William I Boyd and it is stated that this land was granted through a preemption grant. He lives in Lincoln Co. Ky, but sells his land there and apparently moves to Williamson Co. His land also adjoins John Echols and Joseph Dodson, both men who are from Halifax Co. Va. By 1813, he may have moved again or become old enough to be tax exempt, because he once again has no white tithes, but he does have black ones so that implies he may just have gotten old enough not to be taxed. Identifying this man may be the clue to the identity of Elizabeth Anderson Moore’s husband, as he appears not to have owned any land of his own, and they may have lived on Samuel’s land adjoining her sister, Margaret Anderson Boyd.

Group 7
Somerset Moore appears to be fairly wealthy and owns three separate tracts of land. At one point prior to 1812 he is noted as living in Maury Co. and the tax list reflects that with no tithes (white or black) beginning in 1809. He does not seem to be associated with the other Moore families.

Stragglers
*Mary Moore is found on the tax list in 1800/1801 with 150 acres on Big Harpeth and 384 acres the second year
*General James Moore is mentioned repeatedly as having a large grant, very likely from the Rev. War from NC, as this area is where the NC military grants were located. Most people did not settle on their military grants but just sold them, especially large grants.
*William Moore on the tax list in 1803. He may also be there in 1807 but the entry is odd and a Vance is involved.
*Ezekiel Moore on the tax list in 1803
*Thomas Moore on the tax list in 1806
*Joel Moore on the tax list for 1808-10
*Levi Moore’s heirs are mentioned in 1812, but Levi is not mentioned before or after

1820 Census
Benjamin Moore 45+
Hugh Moore 45+
Hugh Moore 26-45
James Moore – 4 males 16-26 with 2 females 26-45, plus younger children
Nathaniel W. Moor – 16-26
John Moore 26-45
Thomas L. Moore 26-45
Elijah Moore and David Stallings together, both 16-26

1830 Census
Samuel Moore 40-50
Alexander Moore 30-40
Benjamin Moore 50-60
Cary Moore 30-40
Christina Moore 30-40
Edwards Moore 30-40
James Moore 30-40
John A. Moore 30-40
William Moore 50-60
William Moore 30-40

If we can identify the connections between the Echols family and the Boyds, or the Dodson family, if they are related, we may also be able to sort out the Moore family connection as well.

Please contact me with any information.

Roberta Estes
restes@comcast.net
In the 1850 census of Williamson Co, TN there is a family headed by John J. and Mary K. HUDGINS, both were born in VA. Living in the household was Elizabeth TALLEY, age 75, also born in VA. Does anyone know who this lady was? I THINK she may have been Elizabeth (ANDERSON) TALLEY from Cumberland Co, VA who was the widow of Jackey TALLEY. But I cannot figure out her connection to this HUDGINS family.

Ruby Talley Smith rubygem@aol.com
We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We may be the leading Kittrell resource out there and we are free to descendants and spouses and helpful to everybody else.

We have a family tree of nearly 35000 (35K) Kittrell descendants and spouses that is totally private and a MyFamily site that is private and free and available to all Kittrell descendants and spouses.

Just post or e-mail if you fit the bill and want to see thousands of bits of Kittrell info.

The area of the future Gates County of North Carolina is the origin in the USA of the largest Kittrell family and Bertie County, NC was the home of one or more of the next generation, and later they moved on through Craven, Pitt, Granville, Carteret, Davidson and other NC counties as land grew to scarce for the number of male heads of household to feel that they could prosper.

After that period of homesteading in various counties, many in some branches moved to other states including many times over Tennessee, with Sumner appearing to be one of the first stops and many times over Maury County and other coumties including listed alphabetically Anderson, Cannon, Coffee, Davidson, DeKalb, Hamilton, Henry Hickman, Jackson, Knox, Lawrence, Lewis, Loudon, Macon, Marshall, Maury, Meigs, Monroe, Montgomery, Morgan, Perry, Rutherford, Shelby, Smith, Sumner, Trousdale, Wayne, White, Williamson, Wilson and Weakley Counties, among many other, later became the home of many Kittrells of one line or another or multiple lines.

Anyone with Kittrell in their lore please write or post or both!

Anyone with Kittrell in any Tennessee document is welcome to write and to share info on an area rich in Kittrells, complicated to delineate from which Kittrell they descend and of which we have a large knowledge. We lose track of some of the female Kittrell lines consistently in every generation and would like to add them back to the family tree.

The name has many spellings through the centuries in public record including as examples only Kittrell, Kittrel, Kitrel, Kitrell, Kitterlin, Kitterill, Kitterell,..., leterally dozens or literally dozens depending how well you spell such things.

We will assist anyone on Kittrell matters (for free of course other than the wealth we get from both of us sharing some of what we know).

And we will be most pleased to find more missing links broken from our tree due to distance and change of generations to those who barely know a whit of their Kittrell kin.
